That’s the question gamers are asking as revelations hit the internet suggesting a new feature that will allow the playing of 360 games on hardware-permitting PCs.
It was always going to happen, especially after the merging of Xbox.com and Games for Windows, which alludes to a combined PC and console effort on the agenda at Microsoft.
The Xbox 360 might be lacking in exclusives when compared to the PlayStation 3, but that hasn’t left me pondering how, and why, certain Xbox 360 games would translate on PC.
Microsoft just posted the third quarter of its 2024 fiscal financial results. The software maker made $61.9 billion in revenue and a net income of $21.9 billion during Q3. Revenue is up 17 percent, and net income has increased by 20 percent.
Xbox content + services up 62% while hardware down 31%... seems about right with the way they tout you don't need the hardware to play. People can play on their phones or smart tv or other means. I don't hardly play on my consoles directly since getting devices like the logitech g-cloud and ps portal. Which is to also say I have been playing more digital than physical because of these devices.

What he said was facts. How he plays games is no concern of you. Don't get too mad about it.
I can tell people like you are an absolute minority..
If service is up means their fans and fanboys accepted this model and subscribed to it. The near future you will see a big decline because the service is saturated.
But that's been ms for years. When things aren't going their way they try to change the way things are said. For instance console sales are down, they stop telling how many sold instead telling us how many hours spent in halo or headshots. So it makes sense console sales down just say people are playing on more devices then previous. What they won't say is how many xbox players jumped ship to ps5.
Hardware sales are so bad that Sony and Nintendo are blowing the sales off the water with their hardware.
If Xbox are losers, others aren’t..
Xbox already tried everything with Xbox live then subscriptions went down so much that they had to find something else. Their fans subscribed then reached saturation rather quickly.
Hardware and exclusive games is where it’s at! Keep gamers excited, announce decent software and people will support you

MS is after diminishing consoles as a medium. They want to destroy this market because they couldnt win. MS’s vision is to dissolve console gaming.
Odd that a company that touts you dont need the hardware to play is already touting another console in the works.
They are not reliant on the HW but still want to maintain a presence (no matter how small) is a good thing. It shows commitment to the craft. It reminds me of SNK and how they made games for their own hardware (Neo Geo) while also making them for others because they knew there was a market to do so. They knew they would sell more to others but also sell to their own niche fan base.
Perfectly reasonable post down voted by insecure corporation friendly folk.... But not gamers. Real gamer want accessibility and ease of acquisition for all.... Company shills are the only ones still telling us that hardware locking people from games is good for us.
In the last two years they've started exiting the consumer market altogether. All of the newest Surface products are business models only. They can't seem to work out what they want to do with it.

Top brass have also wanted to start seeing returns on the 100 billion they have put into various Xbox related moves so seeing more multiplatform games is highly likely especially from abk
It's basically saying that PlayStation is the reason Xbox is afloat right now thinks to Ps5 versions of COD
The only growth MS will get out of the console industry is if it supports it's rivals platforms. Xbox is a pointless machine now. I can see them on a big push for live next, and they won't give up on trying to buy Steam.

They can form a company if they want, they are just as jobless as if "Microsoft had left them as 3rd party".

I think Microsoft and other game publishers are letting people go because they think ai will replace them. Doesn’t matter how much profit they make. They were always going to be let go.
Bethesda France was made up of roughly 15 people... they couldn't of being doing much

I wonder if this is part of Microsoft's strategy to abandoned physical media or possibly gamepass advertising makes their roles redundant you don't need to market a game as hard when the majority of players get the game as part of a sub which already promoted upcoming games
It's France too, there's a high likelihood only 1-2 people on the team even had an Xbox.
Tbh Microsoft I think Bethesda being 3rd party same with Activision would probably more competitive than thus scenario imo

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.
I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.
So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.
I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.
Most Xbox exclusives are already on the PC. The ones that arent generally PC gamers dont care about those games.
why would any PC gamer really care about:
Halo: when FPS are a dime a dozen.
Fable: we already got much better RGPs, beside Fable isnt what it used to be.
Gears of war: Gears 1 already came to PC, PC gamers didnt like it, again like FPS games 3rd person shooters are a dime a dozen. Nothing to be excited about.
Forza: Thats one game PC gamers may like, but again there are so many other racers out.
I personally dont see a single game from the Xbox exclusive list that PC gamers would really like to own.
Lost Odyssey and Halo. That is all.
I think people are looking at this from the wrong perspective.
Being able to play Xbox 360 games on your PC does a few things that support us at gamers.
It allows cross platform gaming. If my friends (especially my PS3 friends) who want to be able to play that game of Gears of War or Halo:Reach that we are talking about at work and doesn't want to invest in an Xbox 360... he can purchase the game if he owns a PC then he can talk trash with us at work the next day on how he owned us. Or even that game of Black Ops if they want to compete against Xbox players and show their talents. It opens up the competition.
For me the gamer. So many older systems I have owned and though I have reduced my console footprint by getting rid of my older consoles... I would still love to play some of the games. I can see this as being able to keep my Xbox 360 game library when I move onto the Xbox Next/720. Knowing that I won't need to worry about if I still have my old Xbox 360 console. Think of all the Sega saturn, PS1/2, xbox disks that you have and want to play. Wouldn't it be great to be able to throw the game disk into your PC and play them like you did on the old console?
This is more then just about getting PC gamers to buy Xbox games. It is opening up the gameplay across the board. Allowing gamers to game with gamers. Attempting to close the gap between people who want to play with others. Isn't that what we have really been looking for in the future of gaming? This is just the first step in the future of what we can look forward to in multiplayer connectivity.
Sounds like a soap box rant... but I really don't see a negative in this option to play Xbox 360 games on the PC. If you don't want to buy and play games against the mass Xbox Live crowd then continue doing what you are doing and you will be just fine.
What is the point of this article? I thought it was completely cleared up yesterday that LIVE was being built into Windows 8.
NOT that windows 8 will play Xbox 360 games.
Great strategy by ms to boost software as they transition to xbox 720 hardware.
