Of course its still relevant, however nowadays it has a lot more competition than it did back in the PS2 days, mainly being Saints Row, Just Cause, etc. who've both showed that non GTA open world games can be hella fun too.

I've been playing through 4 again off and on and love it. I need to take breaks though because it is kind of repetitive but nothing beats driving around listening to the radio stations.

After the opus that was Red Dead, I'm eagerly awaiting GTA 5.

I never got into gta, I'm not into the whole gangster thing. It just felt like drugs violence and sex for its own sake. It's like music videos now days, no story, just jewelry money and showing off. Idk I just never got into that.

I did really enjoy red dead redemption though. It was different from the gta stuff. I'm also excited for la noire

If it's not a FPS in this day and age then the article is true and it's not relevant. Most people online our playing first person shooter look at ur friends list and see whateveryone else is playing. Prob 75% FPS and all other genre's 20% and your married friends on Netflix.

Wow, you guys are really getting bent out of shape by my article.

I'm not questioning what it has done for the industry or whether it sells well.

Not everything is about sales figures, if you want to look at it critically and objectively all of the narratives in the GTA series are pretty much all the same.

Rockstar did a great job with Read Dead Redemption, in fact I personally think it's their crowning achievement.

What I'm saying is if they don't shake things up and improve the narratives in their games it might not be long before people realise a heck of a lot of the gameplay is just filler.

Well maybe it pretty dumb to write an article based on narrative as well. Isn't that what GTA is known for? The story as well as gameplay? Red Dead was done by the same team.

Were you just bored looking for an article to write, because even your explanation above doesn't make much sense considering GTA has always had great narrative and story.

Gameplay is filler? I think most of us play GTA for the gameplay. I would consider the story as filler and the game play the crowning achievement. This says a lot since I do dig the stories as well.

People buy it to run around killing civilians and having car chases/shootouts with cops. I mean, a deep story and gameplay is awesome (I actually liked GTA 4's) but its the open world concept that only GTA has been able to capture so properly
