Why some IPs sell poorly

Year after year some publishers produce the same games. Sometimes if gamers are lucky they seen a new IP. Sometimes the new IPs sell well for example Bulletstorm, Dead Island, and LA Noire. But other games like Majin and Blur don't sell well at all. Is it because the gaming industry only wants the new Call of Duty, Gears of War, and Madden?

In the current economic state it isn't feasible to buy every game that looks cool. So why spend the money on a game that may not be worth it? Hence, sequels to already proven franchises or even new IPs by those same developers will sell much better.

Resistance 3 was an excellent game that sold poorly but massively improved upon the 2 previous games (both of which sold far better).

Sometimes a dev can just get unlucky with timing & publishers marketing ect.

Good pt or wait till the price drops...

Enslaved was crap. Im sorry, I know I hold an unpopular opinion, but it wasn't very good. It played like a bad scroller and linear version of Assassins Creed.

I agree with you. I thought it was really poor. It felt cheap as I played and the platforming was risk free.

A lot of the time games are simply not worth 40 quid. It's a large amount of money to spend if you are unsure of your purchase.

I agree with you. I purchased that game day 1 because I was expecting good things from the makers of heavenly sword; and I did enjoy the game but it was often too simplistic (come to a new area, view the problem and find a way out), repetitive, and not graphically appealing (somehow their first game seemed better). The final boss was a joke of sorts not to mention the ending which had my gf of all people complaining "wtf thats it?".
What saddened me about the game was that ninja theory didn't seem to have fixed any problems that occurred in heavenly sword and instead carried them over into enslaved.
And ot: I'm kinda worried with them handling the DmC remake...

Persnally I found Enslaved and Heavenly Sword to be awesome, and cant wait for DmC

I try to only buy games at launch that i know are going to be good, after getting burned on games like Brink and Homefront i just can't risk it anymore..

CrzyFooL4591d ago

lack of marketing. Did you see ANY ads for Majin or Shadows of the Damned? NOPE.

Venoxn4g4591d ago

Oh man, I am very very sad and angry about Shadows of the damned.. that game deserves soooo much better and got nothing, except good reviews ...but not sales :/ same goes to Child of eden and Vanquish

Controversy in the COD community feels like it happens within an alternate timeline. Activision will take the piss with something, there will be a momentary fuss about it, and then they will forget about it and carry on anyway. Repeat this cycle literally every year for the rest of time.

They call that a crack head! Thats what this is really about, its an addiction. People who dont smoke cigarettes look and laugh at the addicts that spend $8-$10 a pack, but they cant help themselves, they are addicted. That same analogy applies perfectly to the whole MT industry. Only an addict that was not thinking clearly would spend this kind of money on something so frivolous. A round of multiplayer provides the same high a person gets from scratching a lotto ticket, or putting money on a sports bet. MT in general need to really be regulated because you have a generation of kids becoming adults who grew up only knowing the MT era of gaming. Its normal to them and they will in turn teach their kids the same by just being a gaming parent and getting their kids involved with them in gaming. Thats why no matter how ridiculous the headlines keep getting out of the MT industry, it never seems to fade or go away.

I'm so tired of hearing about what they're doing with this game, its never going to change and it's never going to value the consumer over money, furthermore the people who engage so heavily in the microtransactions I guess allegedly are having a blast and can't wait to do it some more this year when the new version of the game drops.
