Social and Mobile features heat up this summer with next Xbox One update

Larry Hryb, Xbox Live's Major Nelson, chats with Richard Irving from the Xbox Engineering team to discuss the updates coming in August. New updates include the ability to Like, Share and Comment on your Activity Feed.

Also coming in August is Mobile Purchase, where you can use Xbox One SmartGlass and the web to purchase Games and Add Ons with the option to have them download immediately to your Home console.

The updates are one of the best parts about owning an XB1 at the moment. They're taking the input, and making progress. The new achievement snap feature is quickly turning into my most used feature.

Yes the updates are regular but a part of that is including features already on PlayStation 4 including Activity Feed. I want to see Microsoft develop their own unique features.

The Activity Feed has been present since launch for the X1. The comment and like functions are new.

Damm microsoft are doing an excellent job supporting their console since launch. They have been very responsive when it comes to acting on feedback. I like it, my X1 has really taken over my living room.

This. I struggle to understand why that's not on there already. It seems painfully obvious to me that it should be there. I would've given them at least $180 for Sunset Overdrive, Halo, and Destiny already... If my attention sways to another game, they might not get that money from me.

I gotta say, every single part of this update looks amazing, and soo much of it was directly from user feedback which is great that they are listening. The new leadership (no don, no balmer, etc) and direction that MS has taken is really impressive, especially in such a short time.

Damn good update, MS! The mobile ordering, the friends list thing looks awesome way better then it was. 3D support is quite cool i know alot of people been asking for it. A lot of nice features, the console truly just gets better every month. So does this verify that preloading, preordering is coming next month? Im sure they are gonna wanna test it before launching it since we already know its definitely coming before sunset overdrive.

I hope MS takes a page from the Steam App. You can purchase and download games right to your PC and have them ready by the time you get home. You can also chat your friends on the Steam App. This is so handy and I would love being able to remotely download my new purchases for consoles.

Loving all the new updates, ive been on the fence about going ps4 (i can only afford to own one console) and with all the news about microsofts restructuring and money poured into games, i think they may do very well for themselves and for us as gamers. Id have loved to have played some of those sweet looking ps4 exclusives, and i really hope Microsoft have more up their sleeves than halo and gears this gen. Its Forza that's keeping me in check at the monent.

MS is doing a very impressive job at adding features.

I am very happy with these updates but I want more radio apps with ability to play them in background, DLNA, and button shortcuts for friends list (like the 360).

Eventually it would be nice to see them attempt sharing digital library and Xbox 360 originals.

Regarding DLNA support, my work around is to just upload my video/audio files to my ONEDRIVE account. Then watch my films and listen to music from the ONEDRIVE App on my xbox one.

My problem with this is wasting my network bandwidth. I have a pretty great cap but still sometimes I manage to get pretty close to it

That's understandable! My brother has the same issue, and he uses upwards to 350-450 GB of DATA a month. I'm not exaggerating either, he literally uses that much data and he is complaining about better DLNA support as well.
