Xbox One smashes sales records in Australia

Microsoft’s Xbox One has been crowned the fastest-selling video game console to date in Australia, as its key rival, Sony, struggled to fulfil pre-orders for the PlayStation 4

Gazondaily3808d ago

Which is surprising really because the Australian market is very pro-Sony.

Jubez1873808d ago

Well then they're sure in for a treat..

GrizzliS19873808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

how many lies will we have to hear until the ps4 finally restocks everywhere.

its getting pathetic how much their capitalizing on the sold out ps4.

disagrees? read the article lol sony couldnt ship enough to them to fullfil all preorders, the guy even says he hasnt seen such demand for a ps4 since ps1 days

Blachek3808d ago

Being that they are a hardware manufacturer, with a supply chain and tons of experience in the market, you would think they could handle a new product launch.

Gazondaily3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

@Grizzli

"its getting pathetic how much their capitalizing on the sold out ps4."

WHAT??

I have to say congratulations to you. I think you just posted the most idiotic post I've read on N4G all year. I just...don't even...

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4...

LOGICWINS3808d ago

@GrizzliS- I hear what your saying, I just don't understand why your so bothered about it.

JokesOnYou3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

Yeah X1 is selling very well despite the nonsense it's sitting on store shelves.

Recently overtaken ps4 on the world's largest online retailer Amazon:
#2 on Amazon best seller after selling out yet a couple days ago.
http://www.amazon.com/best-...

#12 on the Best sellers list of 2013
http://www.amazon.com/gp/be...

Now back at #1 on the most wished for list due to being sold out.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/mo...

-Now doing very well and surpassing ps4 in Australia. All this at that higher price is pretty amazing.

Sitdown3808d ago

@GrizzliS1976
So it's Microsoft's fault that Sony didn't scale back their amount of countries in order to try and met demand?

Godmars2903808d ago

@GrizzliS1987:
More like how much will these "lies" be worth in a month or three. Tomorrow.

If there's any truth or worth to the story the XB1 will become a viable product in Australia. Contribute to its overall world success. Or just be an empty PR/fanboy point.

GrizzliS19873808d ago

i dont argue with nerds.

no i am not bothered by it.

i bought a xbone first, ps4 second.

If you cannot see what i see with the comment i made, youre too stupid to continue talking with.

slimeybrainboy3808d ago

@Jokesonyou

Worlds most unreliable source. The Amazon list. you're not looking at the evidence.

Go to page 2 of your list, you'll see that the Dualshock 4 is well above the PS4. So either by these numbers there have been more DS4's sold than PS4's? Does that really seem likely to you?

I'm not saying that Amazon havent sold more DS4's than PS4's, that's possible. But this would only indicate that the Amazon charts are not representative of the entire market, and/or the buying habbits of consumers (where they buy what). Or the list is pretty much advertising and not an offical chart.

Gazondaily3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

"If you cannot see what i see with the comment i made, youre too stupid to continue talking with."

Please spoon feed me, what are you saying? How is it pathetic that MS are capitalising on the supply issues of the PS4? Maybe I am too stupid...I can't see the truth:

http://stream1.gifsoup.com/...

There is no spoon?

theBAWSE3808d ago

@jokes funny you seem to miss out the part that xbone is readily available to buy whilst ps4 is complete and utter gold dust

let's hope your around to comment when Sony fulfils all their backlog as you strangely seem to go missing when it's pro Sony news against xbone

pyramidshead3808d ago

@jokersonyou

Love the little grasps at victory in between PS4 stock replenishments, must be the only thing that's helping it sell by buying on the shelves constantly :/.

I think you should be happy people are that thirsty for next gen systems that they're buying the X1. Must be a massive kick in the teeth to hope to get the PS4 and come out with a X1 lol.

Utalkin2me3808d ago

@Septic

Which is why it is surprising you didn't read the article.

"as its key rival, Sony, struggled to fulfil pre-orders for the PlayStation 4."

"The Australian Financial Review Australian sales of Sony’s device fell short of Microsoft’s across the same period a week earlier, primarily due to the company being unable to ship enough consoles to meet the number of pre-orders at bricks-and-mortar retailers."

"“It’s been overwhelming,” he said. “I’ve been around since PlayStation One and we still haven’t seen the kind of demand we’re seeing now for PS4."

"He pointed to research from firms Roy Morgan and Telsyte that suggested more than 600,000 PlayStation 4 units could be sold over the next six months, ahead of the Xbox One."

That says it all right there....

dedicatedtogamers3808d ago

Back and forth, back and forth.

Sony breaks sales records: "let's wait and see".

PS4 outsells the Xbox One: "early sales don't matter"

Xbox One breaks records in Australia because PS4 is sold out everywhere: "ERMAGERD! Xbox One domination!!!"

Gazondaily3808d ago

Utalkin2me

I'm not talking about PS4 sales. I'm just surprised MS did that well in Australia. Like I said, it is very pro-Sony there and I didn't think the X1 would smash records in Australia.

christocolus3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

Wow...i must say congrats ms...doing this good even with the higher price tag and all...but this doesnt mean you should stop working on a cheaper and smaller version of the xbx one..that will be the one i buy for my nephew.

nukeitall3808d ago

I think this proves that Xbox One is selling like hotcakes, even at a $100 more. I think gamers get the console in their hand that the buzz is working.

I think however though, that the real test will be next year and it starts with Titanfall and onwards. The early years of the Xbox 360 wasn't that great, but as it gained momentum and PS3 fizzled. Likewise, the Wii U had a huge momentum, but sadly quickly fizzled as well.

Point being, it is too early to tell, but what has been consistent is software sells hardware, not the other way around.

JasonKCK3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

@slimeybrainboy

"Go to page 2 of your list, you'll see that the Dualshock 4 is well above the PS4. So either by these numbers there have been more DS4's sold than PS4's? Does that really seem likely to you?"

That ^^^ is just people buying multiple controllers. Hate to break it to you, but most people who buy consoles have families and friends, or they buy backups. There are more controllers than there are consoles out there. A little logic goes a long way.

theBAWSE3808d ago

@nukeitall you are the dumbest troll on n4g bar none

the ps3 fizzled? so it didn't outsell the 360 yearly to make up a 10million deficit?

like jokesonyou I hope to see you around on this site in a couple months when the ps4 is readily available

alexkoepp3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

It was pretty clear to me once I had the ps4 and the Xbox one and spent time playing with both, that people would much prefer the Xbox over the PlayStation.... the ps4 is nothing new, its just a ps3 with a different feature set (some new stuff but took out stuff also). The Xbox is a new way of experiencing your entertainment, and when people got to see this stuff first hand most would prefer the better experience over a slightly more powerful GPU. Most console sales go to people who don't know/care about specs, it was clear for me Xbox is way cooler. I played through killzone and haven't turned my ps4 since. My xb1 comes on every day.

mikeslemonade3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

HAHA nice spin.. Australia population 22.68 million

https://www.google.com/sear...

California population 38.4 million.

X1 fanatics can only seem to spin the numbers in their favor haha.. Look at Worldwide.

Miami Heat Won the finals last 2 years. Does it matter that they lost the few games during the season and in the playoffs??

mikeslemonade3808d ago

Hey X1 fanatics.. read the article.

"Sony, struggled to fulfil pre-orders for the PlayStation 4."

"The company would not break out local sales, but industry sources told The Australian Financial Review Australian sales of Sony’s device fell short of Microsoft’s across the same period a week earlier, primarily due to the company being unable to ship enough consoles to meet the number of pre-orders at bricks-and-mortar retailers.

Michael Ephraim, the managing director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia, said the company was planning to fulfil pre-orders before Christmas but expected ongoing shortages."

Nope.. Sony has Australia too turns out. Nice trying to "spin" your way out of Sony Domination. Just because Sony fell short of supplying preorders. Still more demand for PS4 confirmed!

DragonKnight3808d ago

Wow, the two biggest Xbox supporters copying and pasting the same comments as usual.

@everyone: Smashing sales records in Australia for the Xbox One would have been hard to not accomplish given that Australia is more pro-Sony. So the 360 selling fewer consoles meant it was easy for the Xbox One to "smash" those records, especially considering PS4 is in so much demand it's bought up immediately and others have to suffer through either waiting, or buying an X1.

@Jokes: Go ahead and just ignore that the PS4's pre-orders will put it ahead of the Xbox One when the stock is replenished. I'm sure you'll remain reticent during those days.

@nukeitall: The PS3 fizzled? The PS3 outsold the 360 yearly/globally every year since release, has surpassed the 360 in total units sold, and has had better games and lasting support than the 360 for years now. In what world is does that qualify as "fizzled?"

Oh I know, in the world where NDP's American numbers equals the true numbers and Kinect titles equate to real games right? Put down the Microsoft corporate pamphlet and get out some more. You don't even have an Xbox One yet and you're still singing its praises.

frostypants3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

Not surprising at all...see "struggled to fulfill pre-orders"...which means this isn't a result of Australian consumer sentiment, but a result of supply chain problems for Sony.

Glad the One sold well but let's not create false conclusions.

JokesOnYou3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

Wow the butthurt is strong in some of the above comments:

#1 I have never, ever badmouthed the ps4 sales (check my history) in FACT many of my past posts either praised ps4 initial high sales or acknowledged it's sold out for the most part, with limited restock here and there.

#2 The SAME folks critical of my comments here where I just lay out facts are the SAME ones on every thread of X1 sales talking as if X1 was not selling well NO FACTS just assumptions....making early predictions of ps4 dominance, saying X1 would not do well because of price, needed a cheaper sku than ps4 to compete, micro is in trouble, ps2 days are back etc, etc...at most like now all I said is its too early and micro will do fine.

#3 How is Amazon now "unreliable" it's just a very good indicator as it's the biggest online retailer, quite often games and products at the top of the bestsellers usually end up as best sellers on NPD or other sources.

#4 My comment does not in anyway suggest ps4 is not sold out but folks are not buying a X1 just because ps4 is sold out as if they won't be able to find a ps4 until 2015= NO, if they really want a ps4 search or wait a short time for new stock. I think the butthurt comments are just reality/karma slapping those who can't face the fact that X1 IS SELLING VERY WELL, and unlike me these SAME folks don't want to see BOTH CONSOLES DO WELL.

The latest news correlates to those reports back in July that said X1 was predicted to outship ps4, which at the time I stated could be a factor in sales http://www.gamesindustry.bi... but then everyone called it crazy and were more than happy to believe the production problem rumors from any old blogger, cinemablend, cboat, lol, my,my, my how things have changed, with folks acting like micro having MORE stock is a bad thing....not surprising on this site from the SAME folks who swore for ever that ps3 outsold 360 worldwide along time ago with NO reliable source linked, then later sony themselves announce 80mil sold worldwide AFTER micro did.
http://m.ign.com/articles/2...

Talk is talk, the links speak for themselves.

gaffyh3808d ago

According to the article, it seems that PS4 has sold out, and Sony didn't ship enough to the area. From the sounds of it, if they had shipped more, they would have sold more than the Xbone, and would have had the fastest selling console in Australia title. Kudos to MS for shipping a decent amount of consoles, Sony were focused on US and Western Europe, and they forgot to ship enough to Australia.

TRGMatt3808d ago

Read the full article...Sony couldn't fulfill preorder demands and supply didn't generally meet demand.

"“It’s been overwhelming,” he said. “I’ve been around since PlayStation One and we still haven’t seen the kind of demand we’re seeing now for PS4."

and

"He pointed to research from firms Roy Morgan and Telsyte that suggested more than 600,000 PlayStation 4 units could be sold over the next six months, ahead of the Xbox One."

wolokowoh3808d ago

It's not that surprising when you consider Forza 5 is at launch. The series has been very popular when proportionally compared to other markets. Much more popular than any other exclusive at launch on either platform.

cheetah3808d ago

Not really. Despite the fact that any retailer you walk into will tell you that you won't see a ps4 until February and that they have enough Xbox,s to build a stadium, Australia is very similar to the US as consumers here believe the BS.

Store employees are pretty bad here too and are major fanboys. Probably because MS give better gifts.

mikeslemonade3808d ago

^Jokes

Never said X1 wouldn't sell well. 3 weeks after launch every system sells well. However I was right and PS4 is even ahead of my predictions. PS4 reported to outsell X1 5:3 in estimates in U.S. alone.

As for which source is reliable that's just up to debate. With the number of sources that say a certain thing it's pretty conclusive that PS3 is beating 360 and PS4 is beating X1 5:3.

And who is the "butthurt" person..? The person who calmy refutes someone's argument or the person that uses personal attacks such as the word "butthuirt". That would be you Jokes trying to defend and spin X1 sales.

Sono4213808d ago

I realise that Grizzli said it in a bit of an outlandish way... but that's no reason to disagree... it says right in the beginning that Sony couldn't fulfill all the pre orders there..

Now I think I see where the confusion is coming from.. it says fulfill... not fill... as in there were people who pre orderred who didn't get their console.. now it doesn't say any specific numbers... but Grizzli could be right.. just saying... the closest way we could actually compare the two sales in australia would be to compare the PS4's pre order numbers to the Xbox One sales but that's obviously still not entirely accurate due to the fact that not everyone pre orders...

Animal Mutha 763808d ago

Congrats to MS. It's a good result no need to spin it Sony fans.

Both consoles are going to sell very well overall. Some people need to accept that and just enjoy the good stuff to come.

I'm a very happy X1 owner but never say never on a PS4 a year or two down the line if the exclusives are too good to miss.

Game on.

Prime1573808d ago

Wow, so many of you are writing books to each other.

None of you are wrong, chill.

There are too many unknown variables for these arguments.

How many units total world wide? Maybe Sony only sent 100k and ms sent 200 to that market? Maybe MS sends a lot of their consoles to Amazon?

This easily has to be the dumbest fight I've seen on n4g as there is much information missing.

FITgamer3808d ago

@JOY You are using the daily Best Sellers not yearly. The only Xbox one SKU that has made it on the yearly list is the day one edition, while every PS4 SKU has made it on that list. Nice try though.

BitbyDeath3808d ago

How can it be the fastest selling when it hasn't sold out?

Did this come from MisterX?

kewlkat0073808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

Isn't sony a hardware guru manufacturer...

Why would they have supply issues..

Microsoft a software company. Good for them...

This generation just started and they are doing better than xbox 360 numbers all around. .can't complain about that with prior gaffs, and much more expensive console...

Revenue should be good with xbl subscriptions and software down the pipeline..

IaussieGamer3808d ago

The only reason for this is the short supply Australia have for the PS4. If you took in account all the pre orders still to be filled the PS4 has smashed the XB1 in sales. The only reason the XB1 has done better is due to supply.

Underworld3808d ago

It's because of the low supply here. PS4 preorders here have been filled for months and you can't get one anywhere. You can still preorder but you won't get it till early 2014. The X1 is available pretty much everywhere.

It is definitely because of supply.

JokesOnYou3807d ago (Edited 3807d ago )

Mike again you are on some bogus "unsourced predictions" compared to real sales. Sony is going to sell every ps4 they can make for awhile and Microsoft is going to sell every X1 they can make for awhile....but it's only ps fans like you who swear X1 isn't selling well or ps4 will dominate. The only two questions are how many consoles both can produce early= early sales lead and MOST IMPORTANT if you actually care which sells more is which one will be more desirable AFTER loyal fans/early adopters have bought one after about 6 months when demand is less, stores are stocked and the actual games do more talking. lol you talk of predictions STILL, I however link you FACTS.

What I find funny is that there rightfully alot of recognition now that ps4 is sold out but when sony made sales record news by dedicating ALL their initial stock to the US thus having more to sell vs micro splitting their initial stock in 13 regions and thus having less impressive 1 region totals nobody recognizes that 1 mil sold out worldwide in 24 hrs vs sony 1mil sold out in US in 24hrs makes the end result the same BOTH sold through their initial stock but sonys headlines were better for US and UK because they had more initial stock to those regions, now micro seems to be winning re-supply at least as far as the US goes IF Amazon is reflective of other US retailers and Australia sales. Sony last reported 2mil, again great news but that is again counting more time and it's later Euro shipments. Surely I when micro accounts for similar time on the market and similar subsequent shipments they will be at minimum in the neighborhood of that. Again notice I'm not saying X1 is outselling ps4 worldwide only that it's at least comparable when ALL factors are considered= which is quite different then what n4g, bloggs, cinemablend, Pachter, cboat fans continue to predict.

Again you can talk about predictions but the predictions keep changing, hell go back to July and there were vastly different doom n gloom predictions for X1, today however ironicly you are having to talk about WHY X1 SOLD MORE THAN PS4 in Australia...not a conversation you thought we'd be having then 'eh? Who knows what the conversation will be like in 6 more but either way I won't hide even if ps4 does significantly better (I doubt it) I will still enjoy my X1 and the fact that it's not even close to the failure all the foolish haters predicted, credit where credit is due, that's all.

ChristopherJack3807d ago

No we're not. Microsoft dominated last gen here for quite a while. Sony did eventually come back on top & maybe if they were more prepared would have stayed on top during current gen launch.

Skip_Bayless3807d ago (Edited 3807d ago )

^Jokey
Fine you say AMAZON, I say COSTCO. Clearly two different things are happening. Also why is the gap getting wider. Just give the benefit of the doubt to sources. I gave you the benefit of the doubt to Amazon despite it not having numbers to back it up.

At the end of the day PS4 sales gap is widening. Meaning Sony is supplying more PS4s. Never said X1 will fail right now. I said Sony will gain major market share. I said 3:2 early on and then 2:1 by the end of the generation. And it's reported that my ratio is actually smaller than reports.

And once again you bring Australia. So just listen to yourself.. You talk about Australia and Amazon? Two places that don't give us the entire picture. If you can provide actual real numbers from Amazon then you might have an argument there.

Profchaos3807d ago

It still is myself along with many other Australian are still waiting for our pre orders to come in and the list has expanded to march for some people.

So it looks like some people have cancelled to get a console before xmas.

PS4FEVER3807d ago

not really. Every eb game store i walk into , it's always xbox dominant. I always wondered if microsoft pays them for that extra bit of coverage.

jebabcock3807d ago

Those Amazon rankings appear to only include consoles that are available for sale either by Amazon or a third party... that makes them meaningless for console comparison

calis3807d ago

"disagrees? read the article lol sony couldnt ship enough to them to fullfil all preorders, the guy even says he hasnt seen such demand for a ps4 since ps1 days"

How long or easy do you think it is to mass produce consoles on the scale they were pre-ordered at?

AndrewLB3807d ago

Jokesonyou- The PS4 is now 75th on Amazon's best sellers in 2013 (so far) list. Xbone is destroying it @ #12.

4Sh0w3807d ago

Skip, Jokes gives links proving that X1 has overtaken ps4 on Amazon as bestseller currently and as the Bestseller of 2013 so far. Sure its just 1 retailer but the largest retailer which indicates X1 is gaining especially when everybody is claiming you can't find a ps4 anywhere. All you do is say the gap is growing with no proof whatsoever. Las t sony said was 2.1 mil but we don't know what that is compared to X1 now and which way the gap is going, surely if sony has no stock and micro does logic says the gap is closing because the links prove in Australia and the US the X1 is selling, I doubt it's sitting on shelves by the tons everywhere else either.

frostypants3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

cesuf3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

@Bolts

Off topic point here, but u gotta ask whats right with Australia. Not for this article but they lead the world in the highest female to male ratio. 4-to-1. Im so moving there.

http://today.ninemsn.com.au...

wolokowoh3808d ago

They simply like Forza. Nothing wrong with that. Xbone's momentum will decline and level off after launch.

Profchaos3807d ago

Currently our waiting list is back up to march for a ps4 in every retailer across the country so allot of poeple are cancelling for xb1's so they can make sure the kids have a new game console under the xmas tree i guess.

calis3807d ago

More XB1s available than PS4s. That's all there is to it.

People are still waiting on second and third batches of PS4s to arrive so they can get them and these people were people who originally pre-ordered not long after it was announced.

PS4 will sell more here than the XB1. There is no doubt about it.

It's funny, there's mass emigration going on over here at the moment, sure what else are the Irish good for?

Anywho, most my friends are currently working/living over in Australia, all of them have ps4's pre-ordered, but most of them have bought Xbone's to tie themselves over until they get the call from their chosen electronics store that their ps4's are in. Must be nice to have that much disposable income... Guess it's time I emigrated too :)

None of these peoples had ps3's last gen either, they were all very much 360 people, borrowing my ps3 the odd time to play the likes of mgs4 or naughty dog games, true gamers :) I was fortunate enough to get a 360 and a ps3 before the jobs went to shit over here.

Blachek3808d ago

Why would they buy a $500 console to tie themselves over until a $400 console was available?

There isn't a heck of a lot out yet on XB1 that would make it worth the money. Next year maybe, but picking up a game for a 360 or PS3 would make a lot more sense.

mediate-this3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

@ christian hour cool story bro!!!

Neonridr3808d ago

@Blachek - I am sure the same could be said about the PS4 lacking any real games at the moment too...

Apples and Oranges my friend.

JohnnyBadfinger3807d ago

Lol because there is only a $50 difference in the 2 consoles here. Sony being the console with the highest mark up. PS4 should be priced around the $450 mark here but those gremlins bumped it up too $550. X1 should be $550 but was bumped up too $600. And X1 accessories are cheaper than their competitions counter part.

I know of nobody who has jumped ship from Xbox to playstation for the new gen. Why swap when you have invested so much time in the brand and it's exclusives to swap because of a not yet great difference on specs?
Plus you play where your friends play. Only 3 people from my friends list said they are getting a ps4 first. But said the will almost definitely get a x1 aswell.

Anyway the Xbox is selling better because ms managed their supply better than Sony . I haven't bought a x1 yet. Not even vaguely interested in a swap to playstation especially since it's only saving me $50

Anyways, this is good news for Microsoft. Not WOO HOO MICROSOFT WINS SO I'LL TAKE THIS AS A PERSONAL VICTORY IM THE BEST YAYYYY! It's good news. Both consoles will undoubtedly sell well down under.

HighResHero3808d ago

I would say it has more to do with the PS4 being sold out then their geographic location....

One way or another the video games industry is healthy and dedicated consoles aren't going anywhere.

I wonder how many doom and gloom propagandists are eating their words right now. :]

Volkama3808d ago

Bit early to declare victory for consoles. The hardcore demographic were never the concern, it's the ~80million other people that might be susceptible other 'smart' devices.

wolokowoh3808d ago

In the past 360s have seen a sudden rise in Australian sales everytime a Forza game releases, I'd attribute it to the regional popularity of Forza 5. When the dust settles, PlayStation will likely be on top.

Yes, we can read the title.

They seem so strict with their gaming laws down there.

Hopefully they are getting to enjoy the XB1/PS4/WiiU

Their brilliant politicians ban violent games ya, but that has nothing at all to do with if they "know what video games even are". I gotta call ignorant troll here bro.

Fz6soldier3808d ago

Amazon best Eller list changes as items become available, as you can see, even though the PS4 is the hottest item this year, it is now sitting at 42 on the Amazon best seller list because stock has been out for sometime, but they had plenty of Xbox ones instock just the other day.

Pogmathoin3808d ago

Well, this will not go down well... now Austrailia is a 3rd country I guess, were it does not matter.

Games_R_Us3808d ago

Australia is a very healthy market and one thats been dominated by Sony for many years. This is big news for Aussies and Xbox gamers as the Xbox moves to top spot.

Well done Australia.

Profchaos3807d ago

I live in Australia and almost every single retailer has them in stock and hasn't sold out while the PS4 pre order list has grown to March.

Death3807d ago

Kind of odd that a country that is seeing so much demand is being treated in a way that is less than they deserve. To see Playstation fans talk about Australia like they are a third world country is sad at best. At least Microsoft is keeping the country well supplied if they are in stock at every single retailer. Probably not the best allocation of available units since there are other regions seeing higher demand and a problem keeping them supplied.

Congratulations to MS, but it does beg the question as to just how many sales Sony would have made in comparison had they had enough PS4s to go around.

ThePope3808d ago

Neither company has many to go around. Why do you think Microsoft scaled back its launch?

zerocrossing3808d ago

Well they do need to make sure that the sales cover manufacturing costs.

Also, it's a pretty typical business practice for companies to hold back their products so that they can tell everyone they're sold out, this allows companies to evaluate demand for their product and it also generates hype which often leads to an increase in potential sales.

cyhm31123808d ago

nah, as the author said, it is because not enough ps4 are over here.

raresteak3808d ago

I have relatives and a few Aussie friends.

They don't care for quality as much as they do for brand. Wouldn't surprise me of Xbone sells more than the PS4 there.

Bennibop3808d ago

PS4 is out selling the x1 in Oz its the lack of PS4 stock that has caused the issue.

B-radical3808d ago

Please never ever speak on my behalf again. Aussie gamers care for quality as much as the next country

raresteak3808d ago (Edited 3808d ago )

You're neither one of my Oz relatives nor friends.

When did I speak on your behalf? Don't be dense.

Companies, particularly public companies like Microsoft, need to grow.

i mean its pretty simple, they spent close to 30 billion in acquiring activision, they thought they'd make it bk no problem, and that didnt happen.

its just shit that because of MS's miscalculation alot of people lost their jobs.

Jingsing2h ago

This is exactly what many people said would happen including the CMA and FTC. Lies lies and more lies and they allowed a $69 billion buy out to happen.

gold_drake2h ago

oh yeh it was 70 billion. that was my bad haha even worse.

thesoftware7302h ago(Edited 2h ago)

gold,

You can't be serious, right?

Do you think that MS thought they would make 80bill in a year & Half? They haven't even released titles under MS yet, lol.

But in fact, that A/B revenue is already paying off, look at the last earnings call. That $80 billion is long-term money, my guy, no sane person/company would think they would make that back in any short-term situation, it's a long-term investment.

Let's play silly then. If MS's reason for laying off staff and closing studios was due(which it really was not) to the A/B deal, tell me what Sony's reason was for past studio closures, the recent 900-person layoffs, closing Sony London, shutting down Dreams, and closing Japan Studio? Zipper? Psygnosis? cuts at all their internal studios.

Keep in mind, you are claiming MS's reason is because of the A/B deal; please explain Sony's reason.

Hofstaderman2h ago

You actually still defending them? Sheesh.....

gold_drake2h ago

this is not a sony vs MS debate. dont make it something it isnt.

and of course not, but im pretty sure they thought they'd make more money after the deal. they didnt, and closed off some studios.

its pretty insane to think there is any other reason for the closure of studios in this case.

romulus232h ago(Edited 2h ago)

(It really was) due to the Activision Blizzard deal and the loss of physical sales due to gamepass. You keep bringing up Sony in all your posts about this, stop deflecting and trying to change the topic, this is about MS and what they are doing.

BehindTheRows1h ago

Has nothing to do with Sony. Stay on topic.

notachance1h ago

once in a while you see someone too invested in their make-believe console war that everything happened has to be connected to said war…

a bit of banter between fans is normal, this crusade you’re doing now isn’t.

Chevalier1h ago

Wow idiotic. You bring up very old closures not that there haven't been recent ones from Playstations, but, seriously stop deflecting. This has NOTHING to do with Playstation.

Does Playstation got $3 trillion behind them and daddies wallet? No they don't so stop making a fool of yourself.

Xbox has never been profitable really and they just keep losing money so between their worst hardware sales, terrible 3rd party sales and now terrible 1st party sales.

Gamepass numbers that are no longer being announced shows their numbers after 3 years of missed targets has flatlined. Plus their recent gains up to 34 million were ONLY because they folded Gold members in too. Absolutely take your idiotic rhetoric out of here. Keep on topic without deflecting.

Ayayayay with these xbox/MS excuses.

They are going to use AI for a large portion of the game development process. Upper management need bonuses and the shareholders need more money. So, people will lose their jobs.

Skuletor2h ago

Maybe they were already using AI to make business decisions, which would explain why they closed Hi-Fi Rush's studio, then said they need more games like Hi-Fi Rush not long after that announcement.

Crows901h ago(Edited 1h ago)

They shouldn't have bought any studios. Some is okay...but they went on a shopping spree...stupid

Einhander19721h ago

The better question is why did Microsoft buy publishers for a service they were subsidizing they knew couldn't support.

And why are so many websites trying to make people feel sorry for Microsoft instead of truly criticizing the fact they are closing studios and killing jobs that would have been fine if Microsoft themselves hadn't gotten involved.

Quit feeling sorry for Microsoft and start feeling sorry for the industry and the all the gamers who are actually losing out.

THIS IS MICROSOFTS FAULT.

RNTody1h ago

The first thing that happens after any major acquisition or merger is a consolidation of the whole new portfolio, which includes cutting any excess, bloat or portfolios that don't fit the larger MO of the big boy. So far, it's been par for the course with Microsoft and that's why gamers have been so against this acquisition. Tango Gameworks is the beginning. You think Microsoft wants to pay to keep small timers like Ninja Theory in business?

There is absolutely zero evidence to suggest that Microsoft will improve any of these studios, but plenty to suggest that they will get rid of what they don't need and hold onto the IP. The real agenda of the acquisition was always to acquire The Elder Scrolls, Diablo, Fallout, Call of Duty, Candy Crush etc. that will create millions in passive revenue stream for Microsoft regardless of where the games release. Microsoft simply wants their cut.

Because of Games Pass Microsoft has no interest in investing in new IP which is risky and requires creative talent they can neither nurture nor manage. Game Pass has also not grown in the way Microsoft expected it to, even post acquisitions. Therefore the logical thing to do, without serious money makers to release, is to cut as much cost as possible.
