Do Games Make You Stupid?

Eskimo Press: "You've all heard people nagging about video games. Declarations such as “rots your brains” (previously applied only to television) and “doesn't teach you anything“ are common when the elderly or uninformed are expressing themselves on the nature of video games. I beg to differ. Sure enough, the vast majority of games don't really teach anything, but most train skills such as; reflexes, observation, and basic logic capabilities, which are all fine skills on their own. A few games, however, are capable of teaching rather useful skills or flat-out enlightening and educating us."

definitely not! if anything they have been proven to strengthen and build existing and new neurological connections as well as enhance hand-to-eye coordination. not to mention the benefits of using game/simulation virtual environments to learn dangerous jobs such as working on an oil rig or being military personell.

Thatlalala4107d ago

It's not the games, its the mad amounts of weed and alcohol most of the CoD community consumes while playing.

TheSaint4107d ago

Please don't label all weed smokers as CoD players, it's insulting.

according to scientists, its actually proven that playing videogames can help improving someones memory and sight. You could say that videogames stimulates your brain as well
An examples is fps. Its said that FPS increases someones reaction time

In my opinion that's an stereotype, like others, based on ignorance.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II Review: A Technical Masterpiece Weighed Down by Mediocrity | CBR

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II continues Senua’s struggles against her own reality, but undermines its nuances for an Xbox epic that’s lesser in design.

Jin_Sakai12h ago

Hellblade 2 looks incredible but the gameplay is a linear slog from the looks of it.

yea, you are essentially walking around in a straight sort of line or corridior for the most part and just ... look at stuff.

It funny seeing some of these sites that praise the 1st one but not the sequel.🤔

Both games have the exact same metascore 81

MrBaskerville45m ago(Edited 44m ago)

Maybe because it's different?
Personally I liked the puzzles and combat more in the first one and the story was better.

I'm confused how it's locked 30 on Series X tbh. Admittedly my laptop is a touch more powerful than a Series X but I'm getting 90-100 fps with low settings. Which is still absolutely stunning btw, even at low settings its the best looking game I've played (i play on high though, which I'm getting 60 with DLSS quality mode). I guess it's a CPU thing but surely it was possible

The game is mostly walking around while hearing voices, then puzzles then battle sequences then a talking sequence then repeat.

Metal: Hellsinger dev says he is against Game Pass after seeing how it affects sales

Founder of Metal: Hellsinger studio says he wasn't against Game Pass until their game launched on Microsoft's service, which affected game sales.

TheProfessional27m ago(Edited 13m ago)

Why did PS copy gamepass if it's so terrible and unprofitable? PS Now was before gamepass but it was streaming trash that no one had any interest in.

And honestly the way the industry releases overpriced and broken games with day one season passes and dlc who wouldn't want to just pay for a subscription instead of $70 per game?

Only biased PS fans would defend paying more to a corporation rather than an option that's cheaper for the consumer overall. If it's from an indie studio that needs the sales that's different but games published by larger companies are fine on a subscription model. Also any of these devs who complain did decide to put their games on gamepass in thr first place.
