Has Xbox Lost Timed-Exclusivity of Destiny?

I recently noticed someone in the pending section trying to suggest that Destiny would be launched simultaneously across both PS3 and 360 by posting a link directly to the Destiny website. I was going to suggest he/she write a blog to better make their point but then I thought, what the hell, I'll write one myself.

It has been long rumoured that Bungie's first game away from the clutches of Microsoft would be a timed exclusive to Xbox (whichever one). This was due to some kind of legal disclosure involving Activision and had among it's many stipulations that Bungie must sell 6 million copies and release on Xbox in late 2013, it would then be allowed to release on Playstation some time later. However, after the reveal today there has been no word of this timed exclusivity and Destiny's very own website has links to pre-order the PS3 version of the game. While this doesn't really confirm anything, it does kind of suggest they may release much closer to each other than previously thought, if not at the same time.

This is excellent news for PS3 and prospective PS4 owners and, in all honesty, will help the game get off the ground as it will no longer alienate an entire console's fanbase. I always thought it strange that Bungie would escape MS only to enter into a timed exclusivity deal of some sort. Even though this may sting to some Xbox fanatics, they should try and see it as a positive for one of their worshipped developers who has helped Xbox gain popularity more than any other.

Destiny is shaping up to be a very ambitious title indeed, I'm actually unsure how they are going to pull it off myself, but I'm glad that it's looking more likely that gamers on both platforms will have the opportunity to try it out at the same time. I know my fingers are firmly crossed for cross-platform play.

Here's the link for the preoders, which clearly has PS3 marked right next to 360 and even has PS3 boxart pop up when you click it.

What do you think will happen with Destiny's release and are you happy or dissapointed by the potential of a simultaneous release?

UPDATE: It has been brought to my atytention through some helpful comments that there's also a Dev video promoting theg ame on Sony's Youtube channel link here:

it was supposed to be a timed exclusive.

The contract was more for Activision and Bungie's protection than an indication of what they saw as the ideal release plan. It's just a guarantee as to the minimum each side could expect from each other.

Bungie knew they could do a 360 game. They had no idea what it was like to do a PS3 game though, nevermind both at the same time. Agreeing to anything beyond what they knew for certain they could deliver would have been a bad idea.

The 2014 date was just a guarantee that if they decided to do a PS3 version, that was the target, and Bungie couldn't do less, and Activision couldn't demand more. But that doesn't mean they couldn't mutually agree to release the PS3 version earlier if both sides agreed it could be done.

Activision and Bungie clearly wanted the series to be multiplatform, and neither were going to have a problem doing what they could to make it multiplatform on day one.

Considering the last we heard about exclusivity (timed or otherwise) was in a three year old contract we were never supposed to see in the first place, and how it's been announced for PS3 and 360, and already has a pre-order bonus, odds are the release date is the same for all versions.

"it was supposed to be a timed exclusive. "

So it never had it really..

MS wants to repeat this gen.
.

It's mass effect 1 all over again.

with Activision being the publisher it'll make its way to as many platforms as possible. holding back on potential gains just because of some contract made years ago doesnt make much sense. Remember, enough money throw in the right direction will make any said contract insignificant, and being its bungie title and from the publishers who bring us COD, we are talking LOTS of potential money here

it was never exclusive.

I dont remember Destiny being an exclusive game. It' a secret project teased a few days ago, and showed today.

The "exclusive" part is everyone assuming that every game made by Bungie is exclusive to MS.

Stellar Blade Review | PlayStation 5 | NoobFeed

NoobFeed edior Azfar Rayan writes - Even though there were some issues; those things weren't enough to detract from my liking of the game. The story could use a bit of work in the end, but it nevertheless relished the experience. SHIFT UP might have preserved some content for future DLCs, as the game felt a bit smaller than we had hoped for. Still, its action-packed gameplay makes up most of those areas, and the game's character designs are definitely outstanding.
