Very interesting read and some good points because it's easy to just say cut price but how! and this seems to answer some of those.

JoGam4102d ago (Edited 4102d ago )

Sorry guys but do you know the time on feb 20th in which the event starts?

Thanks in advance.

TongkatAli4102d ago

Drop the memory card prices. I need a 32 bad.

claterz4102d ago

They must be missing out on so many digital sales because people don't have enough space on their cards. I know I've seen a lot of stuff on the store that I wanted but chose not to download as it would take up too much space. No way am I spending £60 on a 32GB memory card HAHA.

juandren4102d ago

It's easy for a journalist to just write articles like these. I'm pretty sure Sony has a reason for everything they are doing. Do these journalists think kids are running Sony? It's people with MBA degrees, law degrees, accounting degrees, art degrees. And then a guy who did well in a school paper once just comes out and says "drop the price". These hit-me-please articles are making me sick

maniacmayhem4102d ago

There's no degrees in journalism?

juandren4102d ago

One guy with a degree in journalism surely doesn't know more about business than a whole team made up of people with the degrees mentioned above?

LOGICWINS4102d ago

It's amusing that you think that people with degrees are automatically intelligent.

asmith23064102d ago

They are highly likely to be intelligent in their field though and in a better position to make a decision. If I was to put my money on a person with a degree in a given subject vs the person without a degree in that subject, I know where my money would be placed.

GribbleGrunger4102d ago (Edited 4102d ago )

Absolutely agree, Logicwins. I've had this debate for many years with people about the difference between knowledge and intelligence. Most people who pass exams just require the capacity to retrieve information (rather like ROM), while those who are intelligent are people who can hypothesise based on data from experience (rather like RAM).

Intelligence is a combination of imagination and linear thinking, while knowledge is nothing more than memorising data... so it's absolutely no indication of intelligence. I've met people with fantastic memories and I find myself all too often asking them 'yes, but what do YOU think?' They often look stunned by the question because they've become nothing more than computers.

Those people one would call geniuses are the lucky few who can use both processes very well. Those who finally become wise realise that they can't use both processes 'perfectly'. In other words, wisdom is 'not knowing', which of course leads to questioning yourself and what you think you know ... or the ability to evolve and understand.

LOGICWINS4102d ago

@Gribble- Right. Theres a difference between street smarts and book smarts. I have a 3.7 GPA and a Bachelor's in Accounting(getting a Master's in May), but if someone we're to give me logs of their daily transactions for the past 6 months and tells me

"Get to work."

I wouldn't know where to start. Why? Because I have no experience in my field and I get by with memorizing concepts(not understanding them).

@asmith2306- I would put my money on a person who has EXPERIENCE in the field as opposed to a person with a degree that DOESN'T have experience in the field.

JBSleek4102d ago

Well people with those qualifications run our country yet make some pretty idiotic decisions so it's not like the general population isn't knowledgeable for suggestions.

That's a real elitest type of thinking.

juandren4102d ago

It's not elitist at all, it's logical. I have a MBA myself, so I know the amount of formulas there are to what others may deem basic business decisions. It's not as easy as "more of this" and "less of that". Especially considering Sony's financial situation

CommonSenseGamer4102d ago

Every company gets it wrong from time to time even with all the brainiacs as you suggest. Otherwise beta max would have been a blazing success along with the mini disc. Just because Sony's name is on the Vita does not necessarily mean it will succeed.

Outside_ofthe_Box4102d ago (Edited 4102d ago )

Yeah we all know you want it to fail:

http://n4g.com/news/1145528...

All juandren is saying is that "saving" the Vita isn't as simple as "drop the price." What if Sony drops the price and it still doesn't fly off the shelves? They just took a further loss for nothing. Sony's main focus should be gaining consumer interest meaning advertising their product better. If there's no consumer interest dropping the price means squat.

Rohered4102d ago (Edited 4102d ago )

Sony want Save the PS Vita?

They must buy Dragon Quest8's rigths to Square Enix.

nevin14102d ago

@juandren

1st off, lol@

"And then a guy who did well in a school paper once"

Anyway, a gaming journalist may have a better sense of the market than 50+ year old executives despite their degrees.

juandren4102d ago

Will you elaborate to help me understand?

nevin14102d ago

The gaming journalist is more like a consumer than a 6 figure executive. The exectutives are thinking more in business terms.

I Miss When Games Came In Full Package Rather Than Broken Mess Filled With Microtransactions

The gaming industry has drifted away from offering full-fledged games to putting unfinished titles that are jam-packed with microtransactions on the market.

It's not the fault of the gaming industry. Gamers were told what was happening, were warned about where this would lead, did nothing, and now are acting like it's the fault of publishers that they kept buying these games and investing in MTX. If only those gamers at that time felt as strongly about these things as they do Helldivers 2.

Hugodastrevas1d 2h ago

I don't think MTX target the common gamer but instead predate on the so called "whales". It's gambling pure and simple.

Christopher1d ago

Oh, so it's okay to buy MTX-laden games as long as you don't spend money on MTX, which has led to even more MTX-laden games with even more predatory practices where content that used to be unlocked is now behind paywalls?

C'mon now people. You gave the corporations and inch, and they kept taking and taking. Community members told people that investing in these things alone would only lead to more and more MTX and putting more and more behind paywalls. But it's only the fault of the corporations, not the people who kept supporting it with purchases as more and more was taken away?

Hugodastrevas1d ago

@Christopher that's a straw man, I didn't say any of that I just added context.

-Foxtrot21h ago

Well exactly

People stand up for something which seems small to them and they get called whiners or negative. Then years later the shit hits the fan and they all go “why is this happening?” Like they are innocent.

The issue aswell is younger gamers who grew up with all this thinking it’s normal and we all just look like old farts yelling at clouds when we’re trying to help us all, even them.

Crows903h ago

Who woulda thought that listening to your elders could be a good idea...too late now

Hofstaderman2h ago

It all started with that damn horse armour. Back then I thought nobody was stupid to buy into that crap. How wrong I was....

CrimsonWing691h ago(Edited 1h ago)

I like how people move the goal-post. First it’s, f*ck any game with MTX’s, f*ck GaaS games, f*ck this game with “optional” MTX’s (Dragon’s Dogma 2), Helldivers 2 is ok because it’s fun and even though it has Battle Passes or Season Passes and MTX’s it’s ok because… you don’t need to buy them? 🤷‍♂️

HellDivers 2 is the best selling game this year. Just think about that, games like FF7 Rebirth sold poorly, but a continuous game that lives off recurring revenue sells extraordinarily well. Then we’ll hear everyone b*tch about a GaaS future.

I really wonder what this industry would’ve been like if we never gave into this crap, and yes I’m saying “WE” since I’m guilty of it, but man it’s literally no closing the door once it’s been opened.

This is what amazed me the most when playing hours upon hours of stellar Blade version 1.00.00 no bugs, no crashes, no sudden drops in frames, no screen tear, no falling from the world, just a complete package on a game under 50GB.
I think Korea will play a major role in gaming in the long run , because they're releasing banger after banger.

isarai1d 1h ago

Still pretty common to find if you stay away from the AAA publishers, in the last 10yrs ive probably only bought like 3 games combined from EA/ACTIVISION/UBISOFT. Even now i still buy games that work right out the box perfectly fine. Just recently got like 6hrs into Alone in the Dark, and not a single sign of any of that bs, really enjoying my time with it.

shinoff218318h ago

There's such a misconception about every game needing a patch, this and that when in reality it's not even close. You nailed it isarai

Crows903h ago

It's really only AAA devs and publishers that seem to have these constant problems

z2g4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

And we as gamers have to accept our role in that. Constantly never being satisfied. Constantly demanding more while paying less. Constantly demanding better frame rates, better graphics, more modes and faster faster faster…. Then review bombing the product when a demand isn’t met. Meanwhile those same demands are making games more difficult, complex and more expensive to create than ever before, on shrinking timelines that burn out employees and make their lives miserable.

You wanna know why so many games get delayed? Cuz the original release dates weren’t realistic to begin with, but you can’t tell a gamer their game is further away than they want to hear. Some dev or game designer will be threatened physically. That builds even more pressure and rushing. We are officially squeezing water out of rocks and still complaining about that how hard you have to squeeze the rock be just waiting for rain. Most of the time we take it out on the developing studio, when it’s the publisher making the calls.

All you need to do is read the comments on most websites and social media to see how toxic, entitled and petty the gaming community at large is, and realize how that transforms into impossible expectations on the parts of game makers.

Crows903h ago

Nope. Some gamers are to blame. Never demanded anything you mentioned.

A fully finished and functioning product is a standard. It's not demanded. If someone sells you a tv that only works 60% of the time are you going to recommend it OR write a review calling out the obvious problem...it's not a demand...it's a standard.

A standard triple A publishers can't seem to hit consistently.

thorstein1h ago

You've never heard of planned obsolescence.

Kinza550124h ago(Edited 4h ago)

This is one battle that gamers have never won, hahaha. They were parading recently for their "win" against Sony. Where's the energy for this one, guys? LMAO!

Let's Be Real, There Is Nothing "Micro" About Microtransactions Anymore

Microtransactions have gotten ridiculously overpriced in recent years, with titles now offering cosmetic skins worth more than some games.

Terry_B1d 21h ago

Yup..this is 100% the sad truth

z2g1d 1h ago (Edited 1d 1h ago )

The elephant in the room tho is personal accountability. It’s easy (albeit basic) to blame the big, bad corpo, but microtransactions wouldn’t be where they are if gamers didn’t spend money on them. As it stands the MTs usually make more than the game. Publishers know raising game prices will cause backlash, so they do MTs to compensate. But the adult conversation is consumers determine the success of products with their wallets. So if MTs are a huge thing, it’s because we as consumers told them we like them by giving them a lot of money for them. So if you don’t want them to be a thing, convince your fellow gamers to stop buying them and expect that games will be decently more expensive. You all can disagree all you want, but reality is a bitch, and eventually you have to live in it.

anast23h ago

Trying to convince people is the least realistic thing. If we are trying to be adults, actual action is what changes things not "convincing campaigns" on platforms owned by the people 'you' are going against. It's madness and idealistic.

ApocalypseShadow17h ago

Easier said than done. I've told gamers for years to not buy micro transactions, expensive dlc, etc. Gamers bought it anyway. Didn't fit on a DVD that would have fit on a Blu-ray disc.

I also told some gamers to not pay for online like Xbox Live because it would force the rest of the industry to only offer playing online if you pay for it. Told them not to support a broken console that Red Ringed. To not support Xbox One because Microsoft tried to take away game ownership and how you play your games. To not pay for a console by one manufacturer where a, now 3 trillion worth, didn't make enough games at the level of Nintendo or Sony who are worth less money.

How much of that did you support anyway with your money then go back and read your comment again.

notachance12h ago

yeah that was like telling people not to do drugs or alcohol, these game companies invested a lot of money in researching about how to make people buy MTs, from creating mechanics like loot boxes, purposely make the game grindy, all the way to menu designs and what color and sound effects played when gamers bought MTs.

It was specifically engineered to take advantage of vulnerable and prone to addiction people.

bradfh10h ago

@z2g
People always struggle with issues like drinking, drugs, and gambling. But in games, especially those played by kids, microtransactions are another way companies take advantage of them. It's a problem that needs addressing.

S2Killinit9h ago

I recommend everyone read this article.

My suggestion is to name these transactions, what they ARE: Hidden-fees.

isarai1d 13h ago

I mean except for the amount of content you're paying for.

Hugodastrevas1d 3h ago

There never was, the only time I paid for a microtransaction was on Blacklight Retribution (PS4) and it was because I enjoyed the game a lot so I felt the devs should get something for all that entertainment (€5 "membership")

-Foxtrot1d 1h ago

The devs wouldn’t get that though, that shit goes straight to the higher ups who do f*** all let’s be honest.

Hugodastrevas1d 1h ago

Probably, but I wasn't as cynical back then and €5 wasn't a big ask to get the guns with grinding instead of renting them, and the game was good (still is on the PS5/4)

CrimsonWing691d ago (Edited 1d ago )

I couldn’t believe what Blizzard charged for horse armor and cosmetics in Diablo 4…

I remember back in the day when a season pass was $15 and you got everything included in it. Now, I see them at $60 and you still don’t get everything.

CantThinkOfAUsername18h ago

That's just Blizzard. Unlike Bethesda's $0.99 horse armour, Blizzard's first microtransaction, Sparkle Pony, cost $15.

Phoenix769h ago

Bethesda out did themselves a few years back with 76. They released a Xmas bundle for half price on day of release! So, was meant to sell for only $12 from day 1, but tried to convince everyone it was half price, by marking it at $24!

Shane Kim1d ago

As soon as gaming wasn't deemed nerdy anymore, and reached the casuals this happened. We're smart, but casuals play mobile games and other stuff, and don't really have anything to compare. They think gaming is supposed to be like this and pay for in game purchases.
