Ugh at monthly fees.... Well, I guess I'll withhold my judgement for now. It is Notch we're talking about. He's a good dude, but I just don't like this idea. :\

VanillaBear4406d ago (Edited 4406d ago )

I know right....

I mean it's not like the game won't sell and it's not like he needs the money like other developers he's made a name for himself and Mojang

I was really getting excited for this aswell, after not being interested in the Scrolls game

Snookies124406d ago

Haha, didn't get your name at first, until seeing your picture! XD

Yeah though, I don't understand why he would go about doing a game like this... Unless it's going to be getting a TON of frequent updates like Minecraft on crack or something.

Oh well, if nothing else, he DID make Minecraft. At least we'll always have that. Like I said though, I won't judge until I actually get to SEE the game myself. :]

Notch does not have major publishers backing him/paying for servers...so yes the monthly fee is needed.

Snookies124405d ago

@NYC_Gamer - Did this say it was going to be an online multiplayer game? I would have thought it would be like Minecraft, where people have dedicated servers... He wouldn't need money for servers if that were true.

koehler834405d ago (Edited 4405d ago )

It's just for the multiplayer, which will be persistent. The single player will not be sub. based.

I don't understand how people expect to have multiplayer server infrastructure maintained on someone else's dime. Not really how the world works, regardless how much money Notch may or may not have.

Saladfax4405d ago

Not to mention, depending upon how much realism he decides to go for, he could easily sink a very, very large amount of money into the development. I don't think he necessarily will, but...

BattleTorn4405d ago

Notch goes from saying he wants everyone to download his game (Minecraft) for free....

then descides his next game will have a monthly fee.

I guess the former approach didn't yield the profits he'd like.

Grap4405d ago

i think it's online game. and he need the money to back it up with the server.

Grap4405d ago

i know.. but the server from the player.

bednet4405d ago

That can't be true, use dedicated servers, like minecraft...why does it have to be a single persistent world, is it an MMO? Because we all know monthly fee based MMOs don't work aside from a select few...bad idea.

I am really excited about this, but I will never ever ever pay a monthly fee for a game no matter how good it may be.

Come on Notch don't do this to us...

Mythicninja4405d ago

I'm with you man, I have yet to pay a monthly fee for any game. I understand it may cost some money to maintain servers, but surely not $15 per person per month. I'm going to stick with the single player part of this game, if there is one. Necessary or not, for me monthly fees make me itch. Lol. I already have to do that for water, sewer, trash, power, and gas, insurance, and mortgage, and I don't like those either, but kind of necessary

N4GGamer4405d ago

XBox live is no different..you pay for servers and services and those things don't run themselves..

There are quite a few big name titles coming in 2013 that we have already talked about, but there are also a lot of promising and rather no-name games coming this year that you might have never heard about"

I think at this point, it will have to be pretty promising with all the FPS games that have flooded the market.

Welshy4117d ago

My thoughts exactly, last gen was majority 3rd person but hugely varied, this gen has been an abundance of samey FPS games with a few standouts like Dishonoured and BioShock.

I'd also need to see some pretty mind blowing stuff at this point (AKA BioShock Infinite grade potential) to get excited about another FPS title.

Hopefully this FPS craze will fade away next gen.

hylandpad4117d ago

With the exception of 'You Sir, Are being hunted" (which doesn't look particularly interesting IMO) and "0x10c" the other three games look like pretty standard fair shooters. Not terribly impressed by them.

What we missed: ‘Lost Planet 3′ gameplay, ‘Angry Birds Star Wars’ and more

StickSkills said, "Since our staff is responsible for covering pretty much everything related to the video game industry on a daily basis, it can be tough to post all the stories we think our readers would like to see. Videos go unwatched, new release dates are missed and silly quotes just float away without ever being heard. So, instead of ignoring the news that slipped through the cracks each week, we decided to put it all in one convenient place! This week, we take a look at the return of ToeJam and Earl, check out some new footage from the upcoming Lost Planet 3 and get introduced to a few new characters in Far Cry 3."
