Unless Amazon or Ebay have an ASTRONOMICAL deal, I would rather support local jobs and get my copy immediately. Sorry, people with a personal vendetta against Gamestop for their robots and personal experiences with individual rude or uneducated employees; I don't have those issues at my local gamestop.

It isn't JUST about tools behind the desk, it isn't JUST about their bullshit deals, it isn't JUST about shady handling of new/used games and their included bonuses, and it isn't JUST about being forced to make a decision based n pre-order deals. It's their business model as a whole, and I don't support them for any of those reasons. When they moved in and shut down MY local mom and pop game store, that was the icing. I'm not supporting local jobs for the hell of it, when I'm really supporting a filthy corporation.

Amazon and ebay are nice choices but I like to walk into stores sometimes and just pick whatever out....browse a bit maybe.

At that, you can't beat GameStop. Though some clerks can be pretty rude and pushy but understand that being pushy and trying to sell games to you is their job and they are forced and pressured to do that.

Well, that's up to someone in Cali. It's independently owned and operated. The guy who created Disc Replay hated that corporate BS that GameStop deals with. He'll literally let someone open a store anywhere in the US, if that person can run a business. I wish I had the money to open one, instead of just working there. Lol.

an anecdote:

i have about 90 PS360 games. about 50 of them had been purchased at a specific GameStop in my area, and 40 of those 50 had been through reservation. last summer i reserved an additional 6 games at this GameStop, but i had to cancel 4 of them due to limited funds (couldn't do without Dark Souls and Uncharted 3). i explained this to the manager of the GameStop, expecting some sort of understanding given how much of my money they'd received since 2005. yeah .... the manager told me that if i canceled the 4 reservations that i would no longer be able to reserve at his store. i promptly canceled all 6.

wow what a jerk...and im pretty sure he was just saying that so you wouldn't hurt his numbers. There is no penalty for cancelling preorders(I used to work at gamestop). They just judge you and your store based mostly on pre orders and card activations so it sounds like he was just trying to scare you - i've been to some gamestops that try that stuff all the time especially with that bs disc protection.

I worked there for a good while and its wrong how they push there employs for sales to the point they get penalized for canceled pre-orders. I dont know how it works now but I once got someone that canceled ten pre-orders. I didnt believe in trying to talk them out of there own money so I went ahead and did it. Then I got my hours cut because of the canceled pre-orders and the most fucked up part was that the person never pre-order them through me. So you can work your ass off to get pre-orders but if someone comes along and cancels more then what you got for that period you are fucked my sire.lol

I worked at GameStop for three and a half years. I absolutely HATED it!

However, if someone (especially a manager) at a GameStop store told you that you can no longer reserve at their store just because you took reserves off, they'd be fired ON THE SPOT by the regional manager. That's something you need to e-mail corporate about. That is a very serious situation. That guy would/should be fired immediately.

While i don't support Gamestop's exploitation of the game industry i am less in support of this Consoles to not play used games that is rumoured.

Online passes are fine because i understand that developers are getting shafted but don't prevent me for borrowing a friends game to try it out before i buy it.

I do either Amazon with their guaranteed price matching and $.99 release day shipping so when I get home UPS has left the game on my fron step and I usually get it a couple bucks cheaper than retail. Or I do Best Buy with rewards zone points plus gamerZone points. ONLY time I ever go to a Gamestop is exclusive stuff I really want bad enough. But that's maybe 1 game a year.

The argument against GameStop is getting really old. Don't like them, don't shop there it's as easy as that. So what if they sell used games. Last time I checked people are selling brand new and used games on Amazon, Craig's List and EBay.

only problem i have with gamestop besides not stocking pc games is them trying to sell me a open game brand new. i don't care if it's new or not. once the plastic and seal has been broken it's no longer new. they get so mad when i tell them that.

All 4 of the gamestops I visit have pretty friendly employees who actually like games and talk about them. I mean when I picked up dark souls I ended up having a 45 minute conversation with the girl working there about games and how easy they've gotten.

I rape Gamestop. I buy a used game take it back within 7 days with my receipt and get a full refund. One time I even took back a game, got my money back for it, then bought the same game back right in front of the clerk(he thought it was funny). Then finally I came back within 7 days to get my full refund LOL. I haven't been to Gamestop in a while I hope I can still do this.

It's their trade in value is what's the issue here. Always has been. They rip people off on their trade in's. Then you turn and see your game on the shelf a day or so later for avg $15 more.
