Little Big Planet 2: Thoughts on gameplay from beta rooms event

Dualshockers: I recently got to the chance to play Little Big Planet 2 at Sony’s recent Beta Room event in the UK and I can sum up my experience with one single word – “WOW”. Check out the video above to see my reactions and thoughts on what I believe is a very strong contender for GOTY 2010.

I hope Sony has a open beta for this game

Nicaragua5026d ago

A beta would be a nice sweetener but it really dosnt matter. Base on what i have seen and what this guy says then its a day one purchase for me.

-Alpha5026d ago (Edited 5026d ago )

Yeah, I agree, I trust Media Molecule. The thing with LBP is that it's a giant learning process and a game that builds on top of it's predecessor. LBP1 was pretty much the beta for LBP2 and I know that the devs have been paying clear attention to us.

As long as jumping can be tuned, gravity can be tuned, loading and lag is fixed, and creation becomes easier (along with the ability to create/publish something with multiple users) then I'll be fine. And since all of that is apparently in the game with a ton more being added I'm just super excited.

Regardless I'd like a beta just to play the game early and find bugs for these guys.

Nicaragua5026d ago (Edited 5026d ago )

I know that gravity can be tweaked during level creation as we played one level which was like an LBP version of Unreal Tournament deathmatch, with really low gravity and missile launchers - it was pure awesome. Played out kind of like a long range version of super smash bros.

Anyway your right to be excited, i cant wait :)

despair5026d ago

Also creating sequential episodes that automatically cycle through as you play would be great, imagine making a game series that does not require you to find each chapter but loads one after the other.

-Alpha5026d ago (Edited 5026d ago )

Oh, what I REALLY want is the ability to program characters. So if someone makes an RPG they should have the ability to save stats-- if at the end of the level I have 3 life, 2 strength, 4 magic, etc, it should save for a sequel or the next level like despair suggested (cycled levels).

Cycled levels are actually confirmed from the trailer.

@Nicaragua,

that sounds awesome.

It'd be really cool if they can add FPS, or just depth. But I suppose that's for LBP3. When they add depth then that is going to take LBP to a whole other dimension (pun intended).

I remember some of the PR hype for the first LBP were media molecule described it as being a platform rather than a single game - I dont think that quite came to fruition on the first game because you were always limited to the 2D ish, 3 tier platform game.

thats completely gone out of the window in LBP 2 and we saw some carzy stuff. I really do think that the only limit on this game is going to be peoples imaginations.

Nicaragua5026d ago

Yeah i remember that speel.

The "cat beast thing" you mention in the video just makes me think of that creature in The Last Guardian.

MariaHelFutura5026d ago

LBP2 has the potential to be one of the best/the best game ever created. When considering how the community ran wild w/ the first game, LBP2 is going to create some epic levels/games. Faster, Better, Stronger. LOL.

mrv3215026d ago

I just want LBP2 to screw with reviewers and GOTY awards, because there's racing and shoot em ups. They may have to create a new genre 'Play create share.'

D4RkNIKON5026d ago

Maybe it will win in multiple categories lol.

Racing GOTY goes to LBP2
Shooter GOTY goes to LBP2
Platformer GOTY goes to LBP2

haha just kidding but who knows lol

mrv3215026d ago

Racing GOTY goes to GT5 :p

thevokillist5026d ago

I have been patiently waiting for this title since I heard about it. I'm so stoked to be able to create actual games, and not just levels. I was a big fan of the first, and solely purchased it on the fact that I could create my own world. This is honestly one of the most original games that has been released on any console. Hands down!

Microsoft once tried to nab LittleBigPlanet from Sony after a few drinks

It turns out that many moons ago, Microsoft once had its eye on the Sony published LittleBigPlanet series.

Microsoft had a good idea but fumbled it again.

Cacabunga1d 9h ago (Edited 1d 9h ago )

Project Spark idea was decent but they quickly gave up ..
LBP was wonderful

ApocalypseShadow2d ago

Microsoft in a nutshell. Always tried to poach Sony employees, games, 3rd party games and devices like the depth camera that was turned into Kinect but was running on PS2 before Xbox 360. Wouldn't be surprised they wanted LBP. Just like they worked behind the scenes pushing the MLB to bring Sony's baseball game to Xbox instead of making their own.
https://www.playstationlife...

They didn't spend years trying to develop their own baseball game. They wanted Sony's game.

They're scum.

Zachmo1821d 8h ago

Microsoft didn't force MLB on Xbox. MLB gave Sony 2 options either go multiplat or risk losing the license.

Rynxie22h ago

And why do you think MLB said that? I believe Ms approached MLB.

ApocalypseShadow22h ago(Edited 22h ago)

Totally ridiculous comment.

The only exclusivity Sony had was to their own creation of The Show. Microsoft could have paid the MLB for the license just like Sony did and made their own baseball game.

Microsoft instead, groomed MLB for years in trying to poach Sony's game and bring it to Xbox. They're worth 3 TRILLION dollars. You think that's not enough money to make their own baseball game? Don't be delusional.

Microsoft spun it like they always do and told the media that they had to trust Sony with their hardware. After they put Sony in that position of not having a choice. Either go multiplatform or stop making one of their successful games. That's a no win scenario.

And what did Microsoft do? They didn't try to sell the game to the Xbox community. They put it on game pass to hurt Sony. Pushing the idea of why buy games that are $70 when you can play them in their cheap service for $10. It was a dirty tactic.

You fell for the Kool aid drink Microsoft served you instead of spitting it out. Hope it tasted good because you were fooled by Phil and the gang.

Xbox executive Sara Bond has told Axios that Microsoft spent a number of years trying to get MLB The Show onto Xbox consoles. And when it finally succeeded in breaking off PlayStation’s long-held exclusivity, the company had to “trust” Sony with pre-release Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Bond revealed that MLB The Show “always came up” in conversations between Microsoft and the Major League Baseball organization. “We always said, ‘We love this game. It would be a huge opportunity to bring it to Xbox.'” she recalled. However, when Microsoft’s efforts materialized, it put the company in an awkward situation where it had to send in pre-release consoles to a rival company.

They were too cheap/inept/lazy to develop their own mlb game, so they port begged for years and bribed the mlb to make the show multiplatform. Like i said many times, xbox brought nothing to the table their 24 years, ZERO.

OtterX1d 11h ago

"However, Healey said Media Molecule wouldn't have felt right doing that, adding it would have been "morally corrupt"."

Major kudos to Media Molecule for being an upright studio with principles.

RNTody1d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

Great, more stories like this please. Show the last of the zombies holding the line what we've been saying for years: Microsoft is anti competition, anti industry and has no interest in making games at all.

But hey, at least there's an Xbox Games Showcase to look forward to, right?

Inverno1d 10h ago

Well considering SONY just killed the series, LBP would've been dead by now either way. Though MM probably wouldn't exist by now either, so I'm glad they stayed with SONY, hopefully they don't get shut down any time soon or ever honestly.

Sheppard7t31d 8h ago

How did Sony kill the series?

Inverno1d 8h ago

They shut down the servers, that's millions of user created levels gone. That and dead are pretty much the same, it's also been years since 3 and they cancelled HUB soooo.

17h ago
fsfsxii19h ago

They shutdown the servers because no one was playing, no one in the community cared about the user created levels so why keep them up? Wtf you guys would never succeed in running a business.

Inverno17h ago

Yea dood no one was playing so they shut off the servers. Cause people with enough common sense can't just Google why they were actually shut of, right?

Sony Patents To Prevent You From In-Game Harassment By Reading Your Emotions

A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.

Profchaos17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

exputers16d ago

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

Profchaos16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

How rediculas really. You can't say a word that's allowed in most PG films and prime time TV but the game is based around killing the enemy team using guns, explosives etc.

It's just backwards.

just_looken16d ago

What your talking about is called block list

In 2006 a spaceship dropped of the playstation 3/xbox 360 i say that that generation was the last great gen with game functions/tech that has yet to comeback

Anyhow the playstation 3 if you block listed a id they could not talk to you in chatroom with either text or voice. But that was pre mind fucked 2018 when people were more human than sheep.

But hey gta 6 is coming out billion dollar budget without a single player custom character creator and without singeplayer coop off/online something saints row 1-3 had on the xbox 360.

Take my social security and bank account numbers too! Here’s a picture of my wife and our address.

phoenixwing16d ago

Cmon where's the pictures of your children. Don't hold out on them.

H916d ago

At this rate I feel Sony will eventually sell a room to play games in it where they can monitor your every breath

jambola16d ago

I genuinely get a bit worried sometimes when a friend says something that could be offensive In a party
Because I have no trouble believing some bans would happen when in a private party for saying something wrong

SegaSaturn66916d ago

I want them to censor erotic content by measuring my groin temperature so i dont get too distracted while playing black ops 2.

Popsicle16d ago

Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.

Sony Could Increase Your Game's Difficulty If It Sees You Complain About It

Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.

jznrpg17d ago

This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.

Profchaos17d ago

Souls games will be like that players struggling make it harder

PassNextquestion17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

I think if used correctly it could work well

jambola17d ago

cool idea
cool idea for horror games especially
the way it's explained here sounds like it could never be forced hopefully, so that's ok with me
