I think it is a ballsy thing to do, and applaud them for taking a stand. I sold my 360 shortly before the PS3 launch to help pay for a new lcd tv and PS3. I see cool games on all systems and want them all but refuse to buy a 360 myself till they fix all the problems. I work at the service desk for the local Wal-Mart in my college town and see too many dead 360's to count, and it's not just the RROD. I see many people having to bring back both games and systems as the optical lens has cut circ...

I do think it is a bit of both Toshiba and Microsofts fault. Toshiba failed to secure studios (besides the too late Paramount deal), and fought the battle as a price war. The early adopters in this case seemed to be eyeing the longevity of the format over the current price- and that played into Sonys hand.

Microsoft (if they were ever really committed to HD-DVD) should not have rushed the 360 to market. They could have put in Hdmi, and HD-DVD and really had an answer to all the...

Still not convinced, your reasons don't trump either the author or Acelubys feature list. The author was not speaking to programers specifically it IS much more reasonable to assume he was speaking to the end user- and in that case PS3 is the most like a PC.

I can't say I agree with your statement either ip-student. The author of the artictle explained (some at least) why he thought of the PS3 as more similar to a PC, but you have not said why you disagree.

And how is the Wii more like a PC? You said PS3 is least like a PC of all the consoles, unless you mean the amount of shovelware I'm not sure what you are referring to here.

I don't think it would be very smart to have the next microsoft console using a HD-DVD drive. One of the main reasons Sony has been able to bring the price down on the PS3 so swiftly is the refinements and cheaper production of the core components of the system. As more items use Blu-Ray and it gains momentum the price to produce it's diodes, etc become that much cheaper.

If microsoft launches their next console with dead technology it will be very hard to bring down the price...

The PS3 seems to be coming into it's own in the US, which honestly isn't really very surprising but good to see. The question at this point really is can anyone catch up to the Wii? Or should they even worry about it with third party games almost universally struggling and software sales far languishing behind hardware sales?

This generation is about as interesting as this industry gets.

I would think it would do more damage to Wii than PS3.

Wow Penny Arcade is bashing the PS3, how cutting edge. Where do they get their ideas? Early 2007? It's a mystery.

I don't see why people act like installs are back, they make the game run smoother and load faster for the entire life of the game as you play it. Doesn't that have it's own advantages? I guess every PC version of a game is also inferior because it makes you install the game.

They better "own" it because they sure don't have anything else interesting coming out this year.

Seriously though unless the extra content is drastically different than the gameplay or content already provided- I don't see this being a big factor. I've never completely finished a GTA before, and I've played them all- even GTA:1969 London. Once you beat the narrative it usually feels like enough, we'll see though.

True they are fairly good at keeping their fans happy. But if they really, really want to make this a special year for lil ol me they would release a new JetMoto, Legend of the Dragoon, Tomba,Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper,Parappa, and buy back Crash and Spryo from Universal and bring those series back to AAA status.

. . . heck I even liked Blasto.

I'm calling shenanigans on you bigjclassic. No Nintendo fan, no matter how delusional would honestly think the Wii has had the most epic games released in this current gen.

Unless it somehow saves cost, or the size of a console in Japan is really as big of a deal as some make it out to be, I don't see this happening very soon. This mock up image looks kind of like a Wii with a shield on it though, hmm.

You should have faith in Haze the actual HD videos put on gametrailers by the actual site- look really cool. This old SD video uploaded by some random user does not.

It's not like some of the things you're saying don't have some validity to them, but come on man rein it in a little bit. You're making the internet look bad.

There is an absolutely fabulous mic out for the PS3, and Sony actually manufactures it themselves! It is the Playstation Eye- I've been using it as my default mic in Warhawk and UT3 lately and it works great, plus I don't have to worry about strapping anything onto my head.

@ Sonarus
So I'm guessing we're just pretending like Ratchet & Clank Future, Heavenly Sword,GHIII, Call of Duty 4, Folklore, Skate, Rock Band, Orange Box, Uncharted,Assassins Creed,Burnout Paradise, and more never happened? You have to remember not every consumer has or wants a 360 at this point. There will always be different advantages for dropping the price at different points, but now is a good time to drop it as well. There are a ton of people already commenting yes I will...

I wonder if this price drop (if true) comes at the cost of the PS2 price drop that was rumored for early this year. It would make much more sense to continue to reap the cash windfall on the PS2 hardware which is still selling excellently for a console released in 2000, and stimulate more demand for the the PS3 to build up its install base. Any thoughts?

This is a true end-game move if true. 2008 could be a "perfect storm" for Sony, look at the way things are shaping up.

- Sony has very possibly the best, most diverse, and most exciting game lineup this year.
(LBP,MGS4,Resistance 2,Killzone 2,GT 5,Infamous, Haze,DMC 4, Burnout Paradise, Tekken 6, Hot Shots Golf:Out of Bounds,Uncharted 2/Jak4, GTA4,White Knight Story,Socom:Confrontation,Sing star,Buzz,Wipeout HD, MLB 09:The Show). Third party games are also star...

I work at the return center of the Wal-Mart in my college town and I have seen this only once. It was actually earlier in this week with one of the 40 gigs, and it happened just after the guy purchased it. As in it was something that was already wrong with it before the first start up. The only bad thing about a PS3 defecting is there is pretty much no way to get your disc out of the drive at that point.

In the same time though we probably get 7-10 broken Xbox360's in a week. W...
