Reflection.

Of course there is a lot in what you say but I suppose I might just be a bit less optimistic than you. Big game publishers already placate people; I'm not sure how they're going to handle having to placate both people and critics. I think artistic freedom will suffer, but more than that I have a hard time believing that it will do any good. I don't think it will improve any games and I don't think anyone will be enlightened, mainly because I fear good analyses of games will be...

Well, we haven't found a critic yet whom we can both appreciate. I haven't played Halo so I don't know whether what he says is right, but his criticism does seem somewhat disingenuous to me. I mean is he really surprised to encounter themes of tribalism in a war game? Also the way he peppers his criticism with Jungian terms without actually using them to reason makes me think he's not trying very hard. Of course he can do whatever he pleases, and the fact that there is a comme...

I thought Mario was going to be on the list, not Yoshi ... I mean have they played Yoshi's Island?

Impossible ... there is no playstation logo near the disc drive.

I hope people will never look at video games as art, it'd be sure to ruin them. Our reviewers now are bad but––though good book reviewers at one time did exist––imagine if games were criticized like books and films are now; horror. "Final Fantasy X combines all the stereotypes you'll know with oversexualized female characters and ends with an unsatisfactory dénouement in order to deliver 14 year old boys an onanistic experience and you an entirely forgettable waste of sixty ...

People who say "if my math is right" should show their calculations, that removes all doubt.

If people like Anita Sarkeesian could talk relative sense like this (the interviewee not the interviewer who comes across as a bit social-justice-warriory) I wouldn't have any problems with them. It would be a mistake, however, to assume that so many games have barely vulnerable main characters just because publishers are gutless. Look at how many people dislike Tidus. (No scared and vulnerable male characters my arse, FFX spoiler: ...

"0:00 time placement of the Chocobo race was fun"

"Fun" as in "Crucifixion is a lot of fun!" ?

So is this the first final fantasy without a proper logo?

The essence of this article:
Question: Why is it important to talk about tropes v. women in video games?
Answer: "The messages these popular characterizations send ... are problematic."
Evidence or reasoning: n/a

I'm sure De Montaigne would have been proud. Next.

Well, to be hardcore or casual that is of course the CHEST HAIR. One need only to look at China to see what harm excessive CHEST HAIR can do. I suppose it all comes down to this: do you want a life filled with human contact and fresh HAIR, and are letting social uneasiness deprive you from it, or are you truly CHESTY in a world of fantasy and fiction? If you suspect it's the former you owe it to yourself to shave that beardie (of you have one), put on a pair of HAIR ON CHEST and wager to ...

Just popping by to point out....

"but rather because it offers a better entertainment package for me,"
"I am admittedly skeptical of Microsoft’s enhanced entertainment focus with its Xbox 360 successor"

...that if you write in adspeak you're not skeptical of anything.

"With all these issues, the industry is not in its safest position it’s ever been in, with rumors of an imminent console crash occurring popping up regularly"

Rumors of an imminent console crash? We're talking about the contingent occurrence of a market phenomenon, are we not? How does a brain produce a sentence like that?

Doesn't the fact that the Sims is one the best selling franchises of all time undercut the argument you're making rather than strengthen it?

Careful: not in Europe but in Great Britain, outside of Britain people learn proper English at school.

Good point, but ratings are eo ipso an exercise in insanity. A kind of Ouroboros of collective delusion and self-gratification.

IIRC the only aquatic element of Bevelle was an underwater dungeon (with a gargantuan zombie dragon), not my idea of relaxation.
