Blu-ray and the Cell BE were definitely huge R&D investments, but now w/o the huge R&D undertaking a new and improved Cell Should be easy to develop. At the same time it would provide easy backwards compatibility with the Ps3 which would be an extremely welcome feature.
I believe Sony has no such policy. Although I've heard Microsoft does.
@captain qwark
The reason you though Demon's Souls was harder than Dark Souls for you is because you played Demon's Souls, ergo you were experienced. Most review said that Dark Souls is harder, and From Software said that they made Dark Souls much harder than Demon's Souls
If this is the next souls game then I'll have to buy a Vita.
Ditching the Cell CPU would be a waste of the billions of dollars of R&D, and destroy any possibility of backwards compatibility.
@yabhero
Ps3 uses 256mb of XDR (faster than GDDR5 btw) ram running @ 3.2ghz
and 256mb of Video ram
Yes this is what we need. Cutting edge technology, hopefully this rumour is true.
Now how about a 32+ spe cell processor. :D
Developers have recently got use to the cell, and after billions of dollars spent they're just going too throw it away? I don't think so that's why I refuse to believe the rumors.
I'm sure Sony must have something up their sleeve; the PS3 was cutting edge when it came out I expect this to be the same.
In 2006 and 2005 the PS3 and the xbox came out with cutting edge . The had the best of the best. There is no way with a $75 graphics card we're going to get 1080p 60fps standard not with this. If this and the anti used game policy comes into play then I guess I'll go PC permanently.
If I have to use the same for 6+ years to play the games I then I demand cutting edge even if I have to pay a pretty penny.
GT5 is 1280x1080 and it's not locked at 60fps; there is a good amount of screen tearing. True 1080p is 1920x1080
@gaming truth
wth did you just say?
Why the hell would a Ps3 exclusive be on PC? Doesn't logically make any sense.
@persistantthug
This trend of 30 fps for consoles will undeniably exist until games are almost indistinguishable from reality because as long as visuals will get better, developers will compromise as vulcan said.
Avatar doesn't mean anything. I'm sure that there are many COD fans that think AC is getting stale, and visa-versa. Stop trolling.
haha +1
First your numbers are wrong (maybe due to being an Xbot or genuine error IDK)
It should look like this:
IBM Cell BE: 204.8 GFLOPS
IBM Xenon: 115.2 GFLOPS
Core i7 3960x:119.5 GFLOPS
I don't think GFLOPS are a good measure of desktop or gaming performance. I'm sure for Gaming and desktop applications the i7 3960x completely annihilates the CELL B.E., but from a mathematical perspective the CELL is superior.
The limits of hardware cannot be breached by optimization. An 8800GT can beat current consoles, and thats old. The Ps3's Gpu in 2006 was pretty cutting edge equivalent to a 7900GT, and the CPU was also impressive sporting 300 million transistors.
I'm pretty sure nintendo got far enough w/ the wii
They churned out enough Marios zeldas and Kirbys along w/ the occasional 3rd party game. This year was very slow for the wii.
@kevnb
I literally laughed out loud at your comment +1
@urwifeminder
None because PC games are extracted and installed. Also PC games tend to lack pre rendered cutscenes due to their superior hardware
It doesn't matter if the Wii U will have much better 2-3 years. The Wii U is six years late, and by the time developers reach the peak of Wii U graphics performance Ps4 and the next Xbox will be out and would've destroyed it.
