Is it me or are these launch review scores all over the place? I cant tell if some of these sites want the clickbait or they truly dislike the game? By game I mean any launch title....

Interesting question but I think it all boils down to price. We have lost a lot of the middle market developers and all of a sudden it aint so cheap to make a game now. I brought this up before on another launch article but I will say it again: Look at the Dreamcast launch a lot of variety in there BUT also a good chunk of the games were middle market titles. In addition we also had quite a few arcade ports in that launch too (you will never see that again).
Marketing ploy, meanwhile said company gets to accrue interest on all that preorder money. Back in the day (old man rant ahead) I prerecorded Ocarina of Time. Why? Well for the normal msrp I got the Gold Cartridge, a Zelda calendar, t-shirt, and tri-force key chain. Nothing says Now a days this would be branded as some sort of collectors edition (which in retrospect it was) but they would tack on X amount of dollars to the final price. So on reexamining some stuff I'd like to retract the prediction I made from yesterday- I originally thought the map was showing Sir Francis Drakes circumnavigation trip. But there is a clear emphasis on Madagascar. While this is chock full of pirate lore sadly there is no mention of Drake or the Dutchman.
So I took to google "prisoner" "15 years" "Madagascar" my result was

Hodie mecvm eris in paradiso (the last bit of the Uncharted teaser) It's Latin: Today you will be in Paradise. The man talking I think is Thomas Doughty (wiki him) who Drake charged with mutiny and witchcraft. This is a prequel guys it has to be!
