The reason for the mandatory install is basically due to the size of the ram... ps3 ram size is not just big enough and its limited to what the developers want to express. Most games which have open worlds or expanded play without loading usual buffers the world as the player plays the game ps3 ram cant handle the much so in order for it so be on a level playing ground it has to install most of the stuff on the HDD and use that as a virtual ram.. ..
