Far Cry 1: Amazing, beautiful, immersive experience for its time.

Far Cry 2: Great ideas, but fell flat on execution due to annoying features (respawning checkpoints, malaria, etc)

Far Cry 3: Almost a great game, but took too many steps back from FC1 to be considered amazing.
+Great visuals and open world
+Great first person immersion
+Lot's of variety
-Worse physics than FC1 (seriously WTF?)
-WAY too much handholdi...

Wow, what a self serving hypocrite this Jean-Maxime is. He goes on about how horrible it is that a lot of games have leads that are straight white males (roughly the same percentage as those who play the games), then shows off his character who is a physically attractive, physically fit, light skinned female. The cover of the game even shows a nice @ss shot. Yeah, no stereotypes there.

Show me an unattractive, homely looking female who actually looks mixed race, with a b...

She can't swim because the game is too linear, and they keep you on path at all times. Less freedom = more movie-like and cinematic. God, this game has gotten worse and worse from the first reveal.

At first it was an open world with tons of freedom. Then it became a linear game with "hubs". Then they showed gameplay, and everything is pretty much direct paths, with 90% of the action controlled by QTE's. Now we can't even swim....a staple of Tomb Rai...

OK, judging by all the disagrees, apparently I am wrong and I will eat my words. I have NOT played this game, however I thought we were to base our opinions off this article, since that is the only frame of reference most of have.

According to this article, all I get are some crappy, low res screen shots of bland environments and the question are these next gen graphics? According to me, no, they are not.

HOWEVER, after digging deeper, spending hours downl...

It is purely a matter of scale. If you like MMO shooter games, you will likely get some games that look like this next gen. I don't think anyone is saying all this is possible this gen, just that the graphics alone are not impressive, even compared to current gen console games.

Removing the scope of the game and the 2000 players, this game looks average at best. Next gen visuals on SP games will blow these away in every category, and that is why I'm glad I'm ...

To all the people bringing the scope of game into play, the title doesn't mention scope, or customization, or anything other than visuals.......it simply asks, are these the kind of graphics we can expect from next gen.

Taking these graphics alone at face value, they look like early current gen projects. Look at how little is going on here beyond the large number of players: low res textures, very little geometry or environment detail (bland alien planets with little t...

Couldn't agree more. Hated what they did to SC as well. It is sad really, GR, R6, and SC are three of my favorite IP's of all time (love the tactical action), but I haven't enjoyed one in many years. I'm still holding out hope for Rainbow Six kill the tea party or whatever they are calling it, but I highly doubt they will go back to their roots for that either.

Maybe it is just a sign I am getting too old for gaming when I keep reminiscing about the "g...

FCO, the originals were much more about planning attacks and using tactics such as flanking, smoke, cover fire, etc than they were about all out action and future-y weapons.

The games had huge open battlefields that allowed you to go anywhere and approach situations how you liked. Health was not regenerating, and one shot could kill. Also, your squad mates had skills and names and if they were killed in battle, you lost them for the entire game. You would have to finish ...

Shooting red silhouettes just doesn't seem as fun as shooting actual humans. I really miss the old GR's (non-future-y)where it was about actually planning attacks and using military tactics rather than having robo weapons, cloak suits, rocket mechs, and just aiming at giant flashing lights and pulling the trigger.

Maybe for the next GR (AKA even more futurer soldiers) they will even pull the trigger for us, so we can just watch the explosive action occur!

Too bad there is no "upgrade the physics" option. The graphics look great and all, but the main area where recent RE games are lacking is the physics department.

Seeing sh!tty death animations from 1995 while other games have been actually implementing physics for the last 10 years just makes the series look incredibly dated regardless of the graphic resolution.

Totally agree! Staying in character was part of what made the original,(and to a much lesser extent IW) the great games that they were. Now every time we get close to someone, we simply press x and watch as the camera pans out to show a scripted kill sequence. Talk about killing the immersion.

I really don't like that games this gen are becoming LESS interactive. I was really hoping for the opposite. GOW3 and all the other hack-n-slash games with all their QTE'...

God, I am glad I'm not the only one who thought that sucked. I was soo pumped for this game, until I started watching these videos. I don't know, I just like performing these actions myself. This makes it look like all the close quarters stuff is basically QTE's. Get close to enemies and press X at the right time to watch a scripted kill sequence. That is NOT gaming, it is watching.

I guess I will plan on using mostly ranged combat unless they decide to aut...

@ Kleptic

You go off about how we shouldn't stereotype people and put them in boxes, then you state multiple times about how young white males are more likely to commit this kind of crime. You can't say "All I'm saying is", and then say it isn't racist because you side with the minority. Besides, you didn't give a single factual claim, and every statement you made was a unbacked opinion.

Facts are facts, like them or not. My ca...

Don't let the screen shots fool you, it doesn't usually look nearly that nice. Like the reviewer said, it is very hit or miss. Some things look well above average, but at the same time, some of the models are seriously PS2-ish, the framerate (on the PS3 version) seems to be around 15-20 most of the time, everything is horribly blurred, and the environments leave a lot to be desired.

Overall, after putting around 10-15 hours into the game so far, I would say it is ...

I can't believe the positive response this game is getting. A linear, semi-interactive, QTE based Jurassic Park game? Doesn't sound remotely exciting to me.

I love the Jurassic Park license, and think it would be perfect for a good video game, but this is not it. I was envisioning an open world style survival horror kind of game where you have very little weapons and have to cobble things together. You would have to use your cunning and resourcefulness to survive ...

Ugggh, seriously? Heavy rain was pretty good for that style of game, but for a JP game? Like nitrowolf said, this license just NEEDS an open world survival style game. A Jurrassic Park game in an open world with the CryEngine where you have survive amongst dinosaurs using stealth, cunning, and make shift weapons? Why the hell has no one made that game yet???????

A linear, scripted path where I push the buttons as they pop up on screen to run away from dinosaurs? No thank...

Geez, people need to let it go. This song, along with paint it black by the Stones, are two of the most commonly played songs in movies, shows, and games that represent Vietnam. No one has ever made a fuss about them until they end up in a game. They were using the song to convey the atmosphere of the game. Guess, what? Soldiers in Nam listened to radios and music a lot, and I bet they even listened to this song!

This was a huge surprise announcement for me! Didn't think they would announce it so close to release. Can't wait to get back into my favorite series. It is weird that they are announcing it is on a new engine though. Todd Howard (head guy at Bethesda) at stated multiple times that they were sticking with a heavily modified version of the gamebryo engine. I hope by "new engine" he doesn't mean "so heavily modified version of Gamebryo, that it seems like a new e...

Wow, I didn't even know about endurance races! Guess I will be topping at around level 25. As much as I love racing, who has time to sit around playing a single race for 24, 9, or even 4 hours?!?! I'm happy to get in an hour or two after the kids go to bed.

Could you even imagine the frustration of spinning out on the last lap and watching the entire field pass you by after almost 9 hours of work? And I thought getting golds in the license events was frustrating! ...
