Probably because if you go the console route you give up:
1. Dedicated Servers (means no lag when you play)
2. Playing video games on all of their eye candy maxed out like its meant to be (or at least a level higher than consoles).
3.Option to play with KBM, Controller, FPS gun, Joystick for flying games, race wheels for racing games. The PC will accept any input choice.
4. Having an ultra Fast PC for all your other tasks : photos, work, Internet, etc....

You are incorrect. PC gaming is note more expensive than Console gaming. I wrote an article earlier and I guess you missed it. You are only looking at entry cost rather than the cost of ownership for 6 years.

Add all of the costs up and the cost evens out. So you pay the same but get worse graphics and other limitations.

This is a huge problem, and I am surprised its coming up so late on N4G. Battlefield 3 forums on EA site had people complain about this since the moment the game was released.
people are pretty pissed they have to play with no HD textures... But gamers need to understand that upgrading hardware once in a while is important. (Be it PC or Console).
