If Microsoft announce a new console next year, that would ROYALLY mess up Sony. However, that might then shorten the lifespan of the nextbox because when Sony then release new tech, that is going to dwarf Microsofts next console technologically. These will be interesting times.
Personally, I wish both companies stick it out this generation for a few years. Then the jump from this generation of games to the next will truly be a sight to behold.

Around 90% of my friends who have a PS3 only use it to play 'mainstream' multiplatform games like FIFA or COD or blu-ray movies and those with the 360 are the ones that play it more seriously (online and otherwise)
