Yeah, I play a lot of games from varying genres, and to tell ya the truth, FPS is one of my least favorite genres. Don't get me wrong, I do like them. But I'm more of an RPG and Adventure kind of guy. That definitely has something to do with my opinion. Also, I prefer story over multi anyday, so that's another reason why I'm not the biggest fan of Halo (and even why I'm a bigger fan of MGS). I mean, the story's there, but it needs a lot more depth, something I hope Reach will have. Hopefully ...

What you say is definitely true. Halo 3 is a definite improvement and the fans (like you) enjoy the new features that were added to it. But my point is that when you compare it to other games (Killzone 2, Call of Duty, ect.), it has a mediocre feel with a lack of depth. It's probably because I'm not a die-hard fan of Halo, but IMO there are tons more FPS's that are of higher-quality and make Halo LOOK generic. My hope is that Reach changes my opinion because the Halo franchise is something th...

When you compare Halo to other shooters on the market, it does seem generic. Although I do agree that Halo and Halo 2 were revolutionary during their time, Halo 3 and ODST are just more of the same nowadays.

And of course people are going to talk more about Halo than MGS. It's MS's flagship title and it sells like hotcakes. MGS4 isn't a title for anyone, it's for the fans. That's why you don't hear too much about it. With any of the Halos, anyone can pick up, play it, and know...

I'm fine with a linear experience, just as long as the other qualities like combat and graphics hold up (and from what I've seen, they do).

I'm getting Bayonetta for my 360 just to even the hack n slashers out. I'm already getting God of War 3, Dante's Inferno, and Castlevania for my PS3, so I figure it'd be nice having a hack n slasher for my 360 for once (it's really just a control issue; the PS3 controller is better for hack n slashers IMO).

As far as graphics go, there's no overwhelming difference that I'd notice when playing it.

Well Assassin's Creed 2 and Brutal Legend are two entirely different concepts with two totally different styles. I guess it's a matter of taste. IMO, AC2 was a phenomenal title that is well deserving in all the categories it was nominated for. And even though I prefer AC2 over Brutal Legend, Brutal Legend is still an awesome title that has a creative, humorous concept with solid gameplay. Maybe it's because I'm not big into hardcore rock and I love historic fiction. Anyway, to each their own ...

deserves a lot of these. Ezio as the best new main character, best art direction, and DEFINITELY best soundtrack IMO.

But besides that, it's a pretty good list. I couldn't pick a better GoTY, Uncharted 2 just can't be matched.

Simply the best in-game graphics I've ever seen. The only game that can compete with this on a graphical level is Gran Turismo 5, and that comes out next year, too!!!

when Nintendo said they were gonna have a demo set for E3 09, but the dev team wanted to focus more on the actual game.

They've really got ahold of my curiousity now, with the teaser picture and all.

that Whity is getting some recognition. He's a great reviewer and he knows what he's talking about.

was definitely one of the best games I played this year (after Assassin's Creed 2 and Uncharted 2). I'm glad to see they're making a sequel to a phenomenal game. I hope they take the time to give it the same level of polish that the first one had. It'd be a shame to see such a great series go bad because they rushed the sequel.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to these bosses. I'm curious to see the battles with Twoface and Penguin.

Yeah, I'm in total agreeance with ya. Jesper Kyd did an amazing job with Assassin's Creed, and Assassin's Creed 2 was even better. The use of acoustic guitar blended with the time period very well. And I really like the chase scene music, Venice's in particular. All around, Kyd did a great job of making sure the music fit the situation. Personally, I think he deserves the award.

I feel your pain on that one. Unleashed 2 better be pretty damn epic if they refuse to bring BF3 out. And after playing the first, I have a feeling it's not gonna be.

I couldn't agree more.

and it still could be Game of the Year. Sales never make the game. Quality does.

Europe is gettin' lucky with special editions. First the Black Edition for Assassin's Creed 2, and now this! I'm jealous....

But I WILL play as Isaac Clarke someway and somehow!!! That'd be funny if the holy cross was a plasma cutter!!!

MGS, GTA, and RE are the most influential on the list simply because they either created or really expanded a genre. I especially give lots of credit to GTA for the sandbox idea. Look at how the open-world concept has grown into this gen. Infamous, Saint's Row, Assassin's Creed, and Fallout 3 instantly come to mind.

Also, MGS started the stealth-action genre. You don't see too many stealth games these days (Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed are about it), but there are plenty ...

hype kills games.

Peter, the more you call your games "revolutionary" or "groundbreaking", the more you're killing it. Hype makes good sales, not good games. Good titles with low anticipation will naturally be better than good titles with high anticipation. Take Assassin's Creed for example. It's a great game, no doubt about it. I didn't fall for the hype when it came out because I got it this year, and I loved it to death. But for the millions people who fe...
