It's for both positions. You can see some of the black outline in the topic picture. Because of the shape, laying it horizontal needs it to lay level. And because of the height of the console vertically, it needs it for extra stability.

You're not wrong, but that's also why I can't stand Nintendo. They know they can shovel out s*** and people will still buy it.
Nintendo are so behind in online gaming only because of their own stubbornness and lack of caring to integrate into an online world. They don't even try for the most part. As for graphics, Nintendo stopped trying to compete years ago and would rather make unique experience games that don't rely on heavy power. The Switch isn't that powerful, but it's a great piece of hardware. They wouldn't be able to make it portable or as small if they tried to make it stronger.
I don't even care about the other 2 games. I didn't think we would get a full blown remake treatment for SM64, but this isn't even trying. Mupen64 Plus emulator does more to improve SM64 by itself then Nintendo did.
I've hated Nintendo for years. They just have their heads so far up their own asses. They are not a consumer friendly company. But their fans don't mind the abuse one bit, in fact it seems they enjoy it. I'm having a hard time thinking of another company that would get away with the crap they pull. Maybe Disney, but still not in the capacity that Nintendo gets a pass.
Seriously. All I'm seeing is postings of people overly excited about this whole collection and I don't understand why. Mario 64 got almost no upgrades. I have the same version, better version in fact, on my PC emulator that up scales. Sunshine at least got the wide-screen treatment. And Galaxy, while never my favorite, looks great, but without Galaxy 2 seems like a weird decision.
But people are gonna eat this up. Especially with the limited release window.
Yes actually, it's called Exclusive License deals. No other companies are going to bother because they can't use the actual teams and players. But no one company holds any exclusive deal with the NHL, therefor any company can make NHL games. NHL games just don't sell as well.
