I've been playing through the entire Ghosts 'n Goblins series this summer. Ghouls 'n Ghosts (Genesis) and Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins (PSP) are done, only a few more to go.

Those were...ok.

What about some more unique ones like:

- Defeat the Elite 4 with an all-[your starter's element] team.

- Attempt to capture an opponent's pokemon with a pokeball

Why does power matter? Take a look at the transition from the DS to the 3DS:

The DS had a smattering of awesome niche games, mainly due to its lower development cost. The 3DS development cost is much, much higher than the DS. The 3DS dev kit is more than twice the cost ($7000+) of the PS Vita's dev kit ($3000). Hence, the 3DS is getting a much smaller number of 3rd party games. Many of the 3rd party games are multiplats.

We've already been told that W...

Nintendo has some awesome first-party games. They also have some mediocre ones. My biggest problem, though, is this:

What was the last new IP that Nintendo made?

Pikmin, back in 2001. That means it has been 1o years since Nintendo made a new IP. And Pikmin is just one IP. Most of Nintendo's IPs come from the NES/SNES era. Why are they so terrified of making new games?

Wii U won't change the industry. It absolutely won't.

Take this into consideration: not even the Wii changed the industry. Motion controls still aren't standard, and even when we do see motion controls, they've barely progressed beyond Wii Sports (from 5 years ago!)

And people think the Wii U will change the industry? Haha!

First of all, I do think Mario Kart will sell nicely. It just won't sell like Mario Kart DS or Mario Kart Wii, nor will it cause the 3DS sales to skyrocket. Why do I say that? Because Mario Kart didn't sell very much (comparatively) on the Gamecube or the GBA. History shows that Mario Kart sells a lot on platforms that sell a lot. Mario Kart does not cause platforms to sell a lot.

Second of all, Nintendo needs NEW ideas for the 3DS to justify it. Would Brain Training ...

Kinect is just as much a culprit of cheap cash-ins aimed at kids.

Kids games used to be different. They used to be like Pixar movies (both adults and kids can enjoy those movies). You had big-name companies like Capcom and Konami making so-called "kiddy games". Duck Tales and Chip 'n Dales would be written off as crappy kids games these days, but on the NES those were two of the best platformers (made by Capcom, no less!).

It pretty much started...

Actually, no they don't. You'll notice that most "casual shovelware" released these days sells worse than "hardcore shovelware" like Duke Nukem Forever.

Sometimes I wonder if so-called casual gamers are the smart ones. They don't fall for hype. They don't blow extra money on Collector's editions. They don't buy Day One (they often wait for price drops). They don't tolerate faulty hardware. They don't pay subscription fees. ...

Actually, there might be another reason...

It sounds crazy, but it might be to combat the used game market. Now, that sounds stupid, right?

But here's the thing: these cases are built like crap. They break easily unless you take very good care of them. So, what happens is you get a ton of half-broken game cases sitting in Gamestop, which diminishes the perceived value for a lot of people. The Wii did this a while ago and you can actually walk into any Ga...

The 3DS is just....

LOL. I feel bad for the Mega Man fans, but what do you expect? Nintendo really went off the reservation with the 3DS's direction.

Anyone who thinks they know 8-bit music should Youtube this:

Solstice NES intro.

Listen for at least 45 seconds.

I do think we're reaching a place of diminished returns. Devs are using almost 100% of the added processing power on graphics alone. I would like to see better physics, more enemies, bigger maps, better AI, etc.

Sure, we see that sometimes but for the most part it's just better graphics.

Sadly, System Shock was cannibalized and Levine turned it into Bioshock. We're 100x more likely to see another half-dozen Bioshock-themed games before we hear any word of System Shock.

Really, Microsoft? Really? So the FORCED dashboard changes, the FORCED inclusion of Kinect in a ton of holiday bundles, and the FORCED development of Kinect software by every single one of your devs...that's not forced?

You're right it's not forced, because your customers aren't accepting it. Kinect sold 10 million during Holiday 2010. And where is it now? Oh...what? Still 10 million. Gee, that sure was a good use of your 1/2 billion.

I have this game on the Saturn and yes, it's a sweet game, but it's not SUPER amazing. Castle Crashers is basically Guardian Heroes with a more modern spin.

Let's review the FACTS:

It's not a simple matter of Nintendo not localizing games like Last Story, Xenoblade, etc.

A few other publishers (Xseed, Atlus) have OFFERED to publish these games! Look it up! And yet, Nintendo REFUSED to let anyone else publish them in english-speaking regions.

So, it's not just an issue of "Nintendo is being smart because they don't want to take the risk". OTHER PUBLISHERS are willing to t...

Your statement about the Wii U assumes that the public will give a flying crap about the Wii U. As of right now, the "hardcore" Nintendo fanbase is at a minimum of 20 million (Gamecube sales), so if we don't see the Wii U expand beyond that, we'll know that it failed to reach the Wii audience.

I think members of the site would rather write off news clips by saying "lol! N4PS3G! lolololol!" instead of engaging in actual analysis and discussion. It's easier, after all.

Plus, people here have a habit of only analyzing things when it suits them (for instance, the recent 500k NPD sales of the 360 gets praised, but then we ignore worldwide sales).

I'm the exact opposite: I like XBLA/PSN games but I'd rather just buy a game that I can physically own. If you want cheap, compact games then you should just rock out the DS or PSP...waaaaay better choice than investing in digital XBLA/PSN games, in my opinion.
