I guess you forgot the Sony proprietary:

- memory sticks that only work on their devices vs all other flash media designed for devices
- the UMD for PSP movies
- their minidisk format that only worked on their devices

That's just 3, I can go on but I won't so saying 'never failed' is a big false statement. I applaud them from bringing new technologies to the table but not when competition already does it or there is no market for it.

Want to know why Nielson's doesn't easily give out hard numbers? Simple. Because people will see how small the market really is.

We have EU's hardware sales for stand alones since inception until August. Spain sold a little over 300 HD DVD stand alones, followed by BD stand alones which sold almost 200. In the US it is far greater but catalog software titles on either format have yielded less than 5000 copies sold across the nation.

Blu-ray is beating HD DVD in...

They say HD DVD is dead... countless times...

then they say they aren't in competition with HD DVD...

then they say HD DVD is dead some more...

then they say a dual format world is bound to happen...

now they say they will triumph once again...

and then?

no and then.

The BDA needs to learn to STFU, as in yesterday.

Someone please explain to me why bluboys are mad at DRM and why they seem to support it?!

Why would Disney care about a 200gb disk?

Think about this....

MOVIES.

Is a 200gb disk required for movies? NO.

Is Disney in the storage media business? NO.

Disney head says HD DVD is dead and only delays BD's eventual win only to give approval to TL51 (51gb triple layer) and TL Twin disks (single sided dual format triple layer hd dvd & dvd)

BD+ was sold off to Macrovision for a very cheap amount. It doesn't 'get harder to crack'.

Besides, why would anyone toot their horn about supporting DRM?! It is ANTI CONSUMER!!!!!!!!!!! But I'm sure the blu boys will chime in saying how great it is

I thought HD DVD was dead and next gen gaming starts when we say it does...

I thought multiple SKUs would only confuse the public...

;)

Notice how the writer mentions 'crises' due to their laptop batteries and the launch of the PS3? Ouch.

But this was obviously written by an MS fan.

There are 6 major studios. 3 are on Blu-ray (Sony, Fox, Disney), 2 are on HD DVD (Universal, Paramount) and 1 is neutral (Warner Bros).

Look at who owns some of those other studios (i.e. Dreamworks owned by Paramount, MGM owned by Sony...)

EDIT: to yomomma again... but now I get it

Everyone knows there are 6 MAJOR studios. MAJOR. 6.
Sony, Fox, Disney, Warner Bros, Universal, and Paramount.

This isn't rocket science. ...

Blu-ray had a Disney sale (buy Rat & Cars, get $10 off) with far better releases. Rat was given excellent reviews. BD had other sales as well whereas HD DVD didn't have anything major nor any sales the week. Rat was on top of Amazon's charts all week. Everyone, including HD DVD fans thought BD would win by a huge margin, something like 80:20 or higher and in the end it came down to 65:35. Note that Nielson's isn't gospel, they only look at 60% of a blu biased market (i.e. Target & Bes...

HD DVD is the better format. It is more pro-consumer than blu has been or can ever be.

BD's disk is a better physical disk w/potential for more capabilities (not massively better than HD DVD, just better) but certainly not a better format and this is where if both groups could have settled their differences we would have an excellent format. Sadly greed begets differences and we now have 2 formats that do roughly the same thing for HDM.
The day BD launched with the spec ...

We're talking software sales. It's obvious the BDA wants to make some sort of marketing ploy about how, based on Nielson's, they won every week of 2007 and might even throw in the 'HD DVD is dead' like they typically do. Don't get me wrong, BOGOs are great for the consumer, hells I don't even own a PS3 yet and I bought 2! But it is NOT the same as HD DVD's sale, or should I say Walmart's sale. It was Walmart who went to Toshiba to sell gen2 players one time at a low price of $100 (another sal...

Nielson's only displays 60% of the market. BDA is on it's 2nd BOGO sale when HD DVD has a big release. Notice how the BOGO sale is ONLY for those retail stores that report to Nielson's? Then look at the major stores that report and see how they favor blu due to incentives: i.e. Best Buy, Target, etc... So yes, in fact blu is winning 2:1 in software sales, based on 60% market analysis that already favors blu from the get go.

You guys really have to start looking at the whole pic...

They lost on MOST but not all.

This 1.1 profile ordeal is something I've seen come from a long ways. It's proof on why the format was launched unfinished. There's what... 2 1.1 compliant players on the market? The new one from Panasonic (heard good things about it) and the Samsung dual format one. I could be wrong on 2 but it isn't large. Sony themselves recently certified their newest player due out soon to 1.0 profile just days before the 1.1 deadline date of 10/31/07

The corporations aren't winning. In fact they are losing really bad right now. The average consumer ISN'T adopting to HDM, mainly due to price and studio split. Most don't want a game console as their movie player of choice (big screw up on the BDA's part) and most fear owning betamax regardless if it's red OR blu.

- BDA to win meaningless numbers (Nielson's) does BOGO sales which is giving away money.

- HD DVD drops their last gen entry level player to $100 <...

Same place as we were long time ago... Fanboys trolling about superiority and being spec whores without knowing the whole picture. In the end, the studios made a clusterf*ck of a situation for he consumers. We have to embrace both in order to enjoy ALL movies in high def.

red boys are bad.
blu boys are worse.
purple boys (like me) get lashed out by both but we are the ones who fully benefit.

;)

To be realistic, player prices are lower...

Note it's also for Shrek 3's HD DVD release and the last BD BOGO deal was on Transformer's launch week. I'ld expect the same when Bourne 3 comes out. The BDA really wants to toot it's horn about winning every week on Neilson's data in 2007. Why else would they do BOGO on mega hit HD DVD launch weeks? ;)

Blu boys and sony power rangers, here's your chance to get BD films and actually back up your fan based comments ;)

I wish I had a PS3 to get in on this deal. I d...
