That editorial was written very well. I agree with the author about the "arms race" in gaming consoles. It doesn't have to be that way and they (the companies) don't always have to sacrifice profit just for the sake of having the best technology.

If Logitech can make a Wii-mote like peripheral that does the same thing as the Wii-mote and improves upon it, then I'm all for it. I'm sure that it will be cheaper as well. Unfortunately, I already have 4 Wii remotes and don't need another but it could be good for all those other consumers.

I just posted about this on another thread. Can you guys get your definitions straight?

Next gen is not out yet but current gen is out now.

Quote from "The Princess Bride"
Vizzini: Inconceivable! (in your case "Next-gen!")
Inigo Montoya: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Thanks Cain, that was funny. Be sure to post more when they become available.

Seriously, I don't think that casual games will spell the end of so-called hardcore games. Games of all forms have been around for decades and they won't be going away any time soon. Sure, the game studios go where the money is but there is plenty of money in both categories (casual & hardcore). The only way that game studios stop making hardcore games is if people stop buying them. Surely you don't think all the hardcore gamers will all of a sudden become casual gamers do you?

That's the correct answer! I agree with William and might I add that even if Nintendo never marketed their console to casual gamers, it would of still sold to the core gamers. There are people out there who will only buy one console each generation and Nintendo has plenty of those faithful.

You are right, the Wii is not a next generation console. Just like the XBox 360 and PS3, it is a current generation console.

I am not sure why people keep throwing this term about like they know what they are talking about. It reminds of that line in "The Princess Bride" when Inigo Montoya tells Vizzini, "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

There really aren't any games where you have to "run around like a headless chicken." Most people have Wii Sports as their only talking point. You definitely can over-exaggerate your movements when playing those games but it's really not necessary with the exception of the boxing game. A simple flick of the wrist will do.

I am just kind of tired of people saying that you have to flail your arms around, jump around, ad nauseum infinitum. The majority of the games t...

Not all internet users are very savvy. You would have to use all of the terms that one might enter to search for a particular product. Some really anal people might enter the whole term such as, Microsoft XBox 360 or Nintendo Wii. Others just cut it down to its bare minumum such as Xbox, Wii or PS/Playstation. If I changed the search to just Xbox, Playstation and Wii, the Xbox comes out on top.

In any case, have you looked at the breakdown beneath the search results? In ...

Here is a list of 333 games that are out for the Wii or will soon be coming out.

You are missing my point. You just glossed over my entire post just to focus on a minute point. Let me try again. He is predicting one standard operating system for all consoles. The title of "A One Console Future" is misleading to those who didn't read the entire article.

You get the good along with the bad. Say hello to 30 new and terrible games within the next year. I feel sorry for the poor kid who gets Ninja Bread Man when they are expecting Super Smash Brother's Brawl or Super Mario Galaxy.

When people say that there aren't any games out for a particular console, are they saying there are actually few games out or that there aren't any games that they want to play out? I just get tired of reading that all the time.

According to wikipedia, there are 330 games out or coming out for the Wii in the near future. I don't have time to count the number that are actually out at this very moment. http://en...

With the exception of a few people who have already posted, nobody is understanding what the author is saying. Let me spell it out for you.

The author is saying that there will be one standard, i.e. all competing consoles will be able to run the same game without developers having to make the same game optimized for different consoles. If you need an example, look at the computer market. Essentially, Microsoft Windows runs on over 90% of the world's computers and while those...

I still play Settlers on my PC every now & then. I think that a Wii version would be great. I'd even take a virtual console one at this point.

Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft run businesses and it all boils down to profit. They don't really care about you and me. They just want to make their shareholders happy. If they make them happy by making consoles and games that you will buy, then so be it.

Do you think that they really care about all these comments that people make on these boards? I highly doubt it.

You have probably not even compared Wii sales to PS2 sales have you? Go and check it out and then you will be able to make an intelligent response. From what I see on VGChartz.com, the Wii is selling more than double of what the PS2 is. In addition, Sony has had several years to iron out the supply side of the PS2. If they had problems now, something would be seriously wrong. Don't you think so?

I couldn't have said it better. This thread needs to be shut down right now because he said it all right there. End of sentence. Period.

midgard said: "wii is ideal for children, i'd rather have my child play the wii, and thats why i think wii sells so much, kids, its like Pokemon, only kids and losers like it. not saying ur a loser if u like wii, but kids are a true selling force."

I honestly don't think that children are buying the wii. I happen to own a wii and I am 34 years old. I have two daughters that enjoy playing it (ages 4 and 3) but I play it more than they do. The wii really gets a work...
