Why one writer for One More Level thinks Kingdoms of Amalur:Reckoning is the game you should pick over Skyrim and Mass Effect 3
You listed two RPG's, and then Mass Effect 3. ? I would easily take Skyrim over Amalur.
Mass Effect 3 may not be Skyrim, but the universe and lore of Mass Effect is more engaging and interesting than Skyrim's story. Don't get me wrong Skyrim is my 2011 GOTY but ME3 has it beat in terms of story.
Yeah ...sorry but ME3 story (even with the crap ending) is FAR better than Kingdoms of Ameluers very, very forgetable story.
60 hours of Skyrim isn't really saying a whole lot. In ME3 alone I've put in over 80 hrs on 1 1/2 playthroughs
Clearly the best gaming experience of the year was Duke Nukem forever. What other game could throw poop at a wall and punch boobies? Screw GOTY I'm nominating it for GOTM. "The character building option is unique in that it allows you to approach it however way you want to without ever making it feel unfocused. You can play as a single-class character, a mix of any two, or even all three if you want; and you will still get a character that can handle themself and feel uniquely yours." You can't do that with Skyrim? If you want to take the time you can get every skill up to 100 meaning you can choose whatever play type you want. Now race wise this might hinder you slightly and perk wise greatly but if you actually wanted to switch mid game you could. Maybe not as easily as KoA:R, but it is certainly possible. I also noticed that while quick to criticize Skyrim for the big open world that's been done before, he actually applauds KOA:R for taking the combat system from God of war, and games similar to it.
I completely agree with the article. I played over 200 hrs of Skyrim and it got boring, so boring that I didn't (and probably won't) finish the game. Loved ME 1, 2 was meh, and have no desire to play 3; the authors right, ME is far from a true RPG, unlike Amalur. I just finished Dead Kel the other day and I had a blast every minute of it. The gameplay in KOA slays Skyrim and ME, let's not fool ourselves into thinking that gameplay is not the most important factor in a game because it is and Amalur excels in that dept along with visuals. Thanks for reading!!
After 200 hours? What do you mean, you don't like Skyrim after that amount of time playing it? Why would you play a game that long, not finish it, and decide it was boring? I am reading sarcasm but not sure. It takes about fifteen hours to beat Skyrim's main questline.
Don't get me wrong it was fun for a while but on day I woke up and had no desire to finish. I never stick to the main quest line in a RPG...who does? Grinding became a redundant task that felt more like work than fun. Dragons flying backwards and not giving up souls along with the other broken mechanics made the game a pain...it took the fun out of it and then there was Amular:) Mt girlfriend has never played a RPG in her life yet she is a lvl 36 battle Mage in Amalur. She loves the combat and the world...it intrigues her so much so she anticipated the game as much as I did. When I was playing Skyrim, didn't see what the fuss was about...that says a lot about these Devs.
think the only reason a lot of gamers don't like amalur over skyrim is cause they haven't play amalur.
I have less than 20 hours in Amalur but it's been a lot of fun so far..
i would skip all 3
Amalur wins in combat. Skyrim wins in its world. ME3 wins in its story and characters. Combine the three and you have the greatest RPG.
I loved Mass Effect 1&2, spent 200 hrs in Oblivion but those 3 games you've listed were meh to me, what gives?! Since I've been following Guild Wars 2, "ordinary" rpg's really don't cut it anymore. I blame wow also, 8 years ago playing that game spoiled me forever, never since then has another game gave me the same sense of wonder and awe (it hasn't for a while though), my hope is that GW2 will but it has alot to live up too. The weird thing is I have always been a big proponent of SP games but another game Dark Souls showed me how you can have both a great SP with awesome MP components without detracting from the immersion. I'm ruined dammit!!
