PlayStation Blog - The creators of Heavy Rain didn’t come empty handed to this year’s Game Developers Conference. The celebrated studio debuted a “powerful new video called Kara” to show off their new animation and performance-capture technology; If you’ve seen Kara, then you know that the results speak for themselves. Rendered in real time on PS3 hardware, Kara chronicled the activation of a self-aware synthetic organism, but this making-of feature is impressive in its own right as it shows how Quantic Dream assembled several different performances to create a seamless, believable virtual character. The future is now, you guys.
Quantic Dream's upcoming Detroit Become Human, will no doubt be another success in their portfolio. Check this short video comparison of PS3 Kara and PS4 trailer of Detroit, both realtime animations.
I can't wait to play some of the games from this year, but the year Detroit comes out, oh man! I want it to be that year already. I love QD's approach to video games.
David Cage and team captured my interest since Omikron:Nomad Soul. The fact the team and the actress were able to make me care about Kara in less than five minutes from a tech demo, makes me want the game day one.
Just like the first tech demo of heavy rain with the woman in the kitchen.

Couldn't wait to buy that game after that too. Can't wait to buy this one also.she looks good for a bot. Reminds me of Humans. Seeing their improvements in capture technology is also great.
I really hope Quantic Dreams makes The Dark Sorceror, that tech demo they showed off for the PS4 at E3 2013, into a full fledged videogame. I would love to see this studio produce something very comedic for once. It would be a nice change of pace from all their overly dramatic titles, and diversity is always a great thing on a resume and keeping things fresh.
Clipping Error discuss why they're excited about Quantic Dream's upcoming game, Detroit. The game builds upon the world and character created in the tech demo Kara, released a few years ago as an example of what Quantic Dream could do. However, now it looks like that demo was part of a larger game, meaning that nowmany eager fans are getting what they want.
The tech demo was shown 3 yrs ago so im pretty sure they've been working on it for a while. I'm really optimistic that the game will release towards the end of next yr.
I fell in love with the character so I'm really looking forward to the closure of her story. Valorie captivated me with her performance so my expectations are high. Modify and keep the fundamental mechanics from heavy rain and give us an amazing presentation like in Beyond and we'll have an amazing experience.
I've been hoping they would make this game ever since the Kara tech demo arrived in 2012. The concept is just too good not to make a game out of. Could also become a brilliant motion picture if hollywood ever makes it. And if 27 million youtube plays of the Kara tech demo is anything to go by, I think there is a market for such a movie. But let's not get a head of ourselves here. Game first, and for me at least, day one for sure.
Very excited for this game. Interesting that she says 'I'm one of them and this is OUR story'
I hope David took some notes on the success of Until Dawn and what made it a hit for both hardcore and casual gamers- the game that is massively influenced by his games.
Quantic Dream knows how to create a game with a cinematic experience like no other and this is exactly what Kara needs.
Kara looks exactly like Valerie! its erie!!! LOL great showcase! So the Demo was actually up and running on the PS3 in Feb 2011! thats nice! and they said Kara at that point was 50% of the engine! and it looks incredible! I cant wait to see what they have with the new Game, Hoping for an E3 Reveal!
love you David cage <3
It's amazing how much work can go into making this side of a video game today. Long gone are those days when all it took was one person to work on the graphics side in pixel form.
Would love to see this engine implemented in a true horror game after being used in his current project....
give this lady a role in your next game Quantic Dream, she did quite well!
