PS3 Skyrim: 'It's Not Nearly As Bad as it Seems'

Skyrim, the fifth entry in The Elder Scrolls franchise, has hit it out of the ballpark. The game's seen numerous accolades, including Game of the Year at DICE, and it's racked up the sales to match. For some PS3 gamers, however, it's been more about frustration than slaying dragons. Bethesda Softworks Game Director Todd Howard and his team have been furiously working on squashing the bugs, but Howard tells IndustryGamers that it's not a problem for as many people as it seems.

This game was laggy for alot of PS3 owners... More than they are admitting to.

Search "PS3 skyrim framerate" and you'll get 3000 results on Youtube alone. That is a high figure considering not all of the PS3 owners who bought Skyrim upload videos to youtube.

Those 3000 results don't necessarily mean all 3000 videos are about framerate issues.

Try replacing 'skyrim' in your search with any other game. You'll get similar number of results.

Also, compared to the million(s?) of people that bought the game, that number is kinda small.

Sure, they gave us a patch, big deal. Should I be grateful to a company that released the game KNOWING that it was in the shape that it was in? I don't think so.

I'm sick and tired of being shafted by Bethesda when buying their titles on the PS3. Isn't it embarrassing, Bethesda? Not having something down pat even after all these attempts?

They fixed it? Eh, I shelved the game and prolly gonna trade it in soon. I moved onto Castlevania Harmony of Despair, which is an addictive game, and come the 22'nd I am getting a Vita with Shinobido 2.

Bethesda, I have purchased the last game I ever will from you. I expect some glitches in open world games, but this was stupid. I am done with you as a company.

I feel like people are exaggerating the whole situation. I know some unlucky gamers had the problems, but the amount of people complaining excessively on the internet is just ridiculous. I have 100+ hours and the most I've had to deal with is my game freezing 3 times, and a little lag in major cities. All is fixed now though. It's been the same for the people I know personally too.

You people on the net are the reason I waited a few months to get the game, and i totally regret it. I was waiting for the patch, but my patience eventually ran out and I got the game early last month. I was expecting the worse, but when I started playing the game the only issues I had was the ones mentioned above, which barely affected my time with the game. So yeah..I feel like you people on the net are being typical people on the net. Complaining about anything you can and exaggerating the entire situation. I remember being worried as my save file gradually got bigger and bigger to the 6MB of doom. I was thinking maybe I wouldn't be able to play the game once it got there but guess what...NOTHING HAPPENED. My game was the same as ever and I continued to have a blast with it.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't like playing a game where the framerate takes hardcore dips every time I walk ten feet. I WILL complain about something like that when the other versions of the game work fine.

Companies need to start being held more accountable for their screw ups. Even after all the framerate and freezing issues on a particular platform, the game won countless awards in 2011. That is nonsense. Absolutely nonsense.

You're game only froze three times? Consider yourself lucky if you played on the PS3. I envy your low number.

skyrim froze my ps3 a total of about 40 times!! sometimes it restarted with some file system error. before 1.4 patch this game was almost dead on ps3!

im sure they knew the ps3 version wasnt workin when they released the game, just show how the industry has changed because of the internet and updates.

It had a few problems early on but now it runs perfectly fine for me. I got bad lag/slowdown at one point but the game was so good i easily forgave it (especially since they worked so hard to fix it). Hope we get a elder scrolls or kingdoms game on the vita.
