Blogcritics PS3 Review: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - It's That Good

Blogcritics: Let me be quite specific: you should definitely play The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – it is breathtaking and wonderful. It is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the best game this reviewer has played all year. The game's menus could use some work and I did notice the occasional problem graphical glitch quickly switching from being underwater to being above it, but every issue with have the game is but a minor quibble.

It's that buggy. And no it's not that good. It's a big open world where you go do stuff for people. Some of the best side quests I've ever played, but there is nothing aside from the wish to complete tasks that keeps me playing this game. I don't care about Skyrim or he people in it so the Dragons can take it IMO, and I have yet to feel what the pulse of this game is. In pulse I mean whats driving the character and the world forward. They kind of hit that you should probably kill some dragons but they don't seem to care whether you do or don't. Everything in this game is pretty "eh".

I think what has captivated a lot of people is how big it is and just how free it feels. If you don't want to kill that dragon, go do something else, no one seems to really care. Your a just a dude running around, your not the be all end all that some games make you out to be. At least thats the vibe I've gotten from the game so far. Also the PC version is one hell of a pretty game so thats probably why they're so into it.

IMO it's really good game but not a great one. But most of you guys don't agree with me half the time anyway so who care what I have to say lol.

It doesn't matter whether you agree or not but it matters how you bring your message accross, and you do it very well, unlike most users of this website.

I have the same problem with games like Skyrim and also Fallout. I like the freedom they give me but my patience is not unlimited - in the end I foremost care about stories and characters and I can't just freeroam for 100 hours without getting bored. It's like playing GTA without playing missions, I could do that six years ago, but now I don't.

But still, you should try to value both a RPG with a lot of freedom of movement and a RPG like The Witcher 2.

I'll say that Fallout did much better job in at least having you feel like you've made an impact on the world. Here ohh cool your dovakiin... right well i need you to fetch my broom from all the way across the map. I feel like nothing I do has an impact in the game.

It is fitting that here on N4G and for a PS3 review, there is a lot of resentment for the best game this gen. You guys can cry about the game not being perfect all you want. The fact is there is no game that will satify eveyone on this earth. When you all calmdown and read what the general concensus is,you will realize that most people disagree with you. Sysrim will end up being voted GOTY by more sites than any other game this year, and by any other game this gen for good reason.

I understand that some of you have good reason to be angry and some of you just want to hate something, but you can not change the fact that the game is a great game. GOTY winner does not mean it has to be the game you like the most, it is just the best game made as voted by the masses.

The only resentment seems to be coming from you. And I think I understand, some times I'm in the mood to defend MGS4 to the death! A couple people here do see to resent Skyrim, probably because it doesn't run as well on PS3 and that seems to be getting looked over by many. But it is a good game, and I'm having fun playing it. It's vast, it's detailed, and it doesn't seem to give a shit what your doing or if your even doing anything at all, and thats kind of refreshing. My biggest knock on Skyrim, besides the technical problems on the PS3, is that there is no story arc or kind of main quest your on. I don't necessarily want a traditional western story arc for this type of game but other than the joy of completely a task there is nothing pushing me on.

The number of game of the year awards isn't going to change my mind about the flaws I see in this game. But I am happy that your so infatuated with this game because honestly having fun playing a game is a lot better than sitting on the internet complaining about it.

MS could compress their games on disc

Skyrim is still my favorite ES game. I’m playing through it again right now since I never finished it.

ActualWhiteMan2d ago

Yeah totally. Definitely won’t be hacking it Nintendo 🤞🏻

Fallout and Skyrim show us that talented developers make great games when you leave them alone

That judicious lack of oversight permeated everything in Bethesda's RPGs, in a positive fashion.

Christopher31d ago

I much prefer a left alone Obsidian and Larian Studios. Bethesda's formula has grown old for me.

anast29d ago

Larian hit another level with DOS:2 and then took it even further with BG3. They do high quality work.

Skyrim was a letdown compared to previous games and so was Fallout 4

Kosic29d ago

I agree, I found it an interesting game. But nowhere near worth the hype (unless you include mods)

dmonee30d ago

Skyrim blew my mind when it released. That game took me to the gaming, promisedland. Going back to it when it was updated for the PS5, it felt slightly rough around the edges, but great for its time

TheColbertinator29d ago

We should leave Obsidian alone. Bethesda on the other hand should be kept under constant psychiatric observation.

anast29d ago

Skyrim feels like the game was made in a hurry with a disorganized team.
