Tonight, Grand Theft Auto III is available a bit early on the iOS and Android App Stores for $4.99.
Cultured Vultures: Ahead of the launch of GTA 6, we put together everything you need to know about Grand Theft Auto: the biggest entertainment property in the world minus the one with Sudowoodo in it.
As the oldest entry in the GTA trilogy, GTA 3 is often overlooked, but time has shown that this may be the title that has aged the most gracefully.
SA aged best to me, especially after you max out your skills, shooting especially becomes far closer to something modern.
Always loved GTA3 the most. Everything has personality, the islands, the areas, the gangs etc.
Being a huge Scarface fan. Both the movie and PS2 game I like Vice City the best. I'm also a sucker for the 80s so I'll always give that GTA an edge.
The iconic radio station Chatterbox FM in GTA 3 was slap-dashed together, but the end result was magical.
So, I just downloaded it on my HTC Vivid (not one of the listed devices) and on my Iphone 4s. As of right now its 8.84MB to download and another 441 MD after you launch the app on your android phone.
Since it's not one of the phones that Rockstar mentioned on their list, I started with my android first, since I know it will run on my iphone 4s anyway. I really want it to run on my HTC Vivid, since the screen is bigger.
8 minutes later (Forgot to use Wifi) and 441MB later... It works on my vivid and it runs very smooth. As of now I have to press the back button my phone to pause the game. The game so far is just as it was when it first released on the PS2 and Xbox.
im impressed that rockstart was first able to compress the game to only around 450mb, and then was able to port it to phones, even lesser speced phones (the ones without a dual core, work pretty well)
it makes me a little annoyed that sony hasn't done something similar with at least one PS2 game, hell, a PSP game would be a good start
It's too bad that simulated joystick with touch UI sucks hard. I bought many games on my iPad, and the ones that use it are the worst ones, they're almost impossible to play. If smartphones and touchpads continue to ignore the necessity of physical buttons, they'll never substitute dedicated game devices.
Even though I have an Android I would much prefer this be released on the 3DS. Heck I would take it on Wiiware if need be but 3DS would be my first choice for mobile gaming.
