OXCGN’s Game Of The Year Awards 2011: Did the VGAs get it wrong?

OXCGN:

"For many of us the VGAs were a bit underwhelming.

We had new announcements in the form of new ‘post-apocaliptic’ zombie survival type games (sigh), and new footage of some upcoming games that look either very promising (Bioshock Infinite, Hitman Absolution) or incredibly silly (Metal Gear Rising: Revengance, or as I call it: Devil May Rise: Cryvengance)...

Then we had the idiocy that made our gaming industry look even more puerile with ‘tea bagging’ those whose speech went a little long and bad jokes...

Anyway, for the last week or so we at OXCGN have been nominating and tallying our own Game Of The Year Awards for 2011.

Without any more rambling, here are OXCGN’s Game Of The Year Awards for 2011.

Feel free to discuss your opinions of the VGAs and our picks in the comments section below."

Well Battlefield 3 over MW3 is the right choice I think...except I do love the Seatown map and the fact we can play local multi offline in MW3.

Who would have thought a Sesame Street game would win a category...

BadCircuit4577d ago

I agree with the judgement on the VGAs, I think they took it over the top...

gaminoz4577d ago

We can stop comparing gaming to the film industry, or whatever as long as our 'official' awards ceremonies are idiotic like that...

'We had new announcements in the form of new ‘post-apocaliptic’ zombie survival type games (sigh), and new footage of some upcoming games that look either very promising (Bioshock Infinite, Hitman Absolution)'

So according to OXCGN, The Last of Us, the brand new IP by one of the best developers in the industry ,is unoriginal, whilst 2 sequels to franchises (Hitman Absolution is the 5th in the series!) are fresh & promising. Anyone else see the irony?

Don't get me wrong, both Hitman & Bioshock look great. But this 'journalist' is a deluded hypocritical fanboy.

gaminoz4577d ago (Edited 4577d ago )

Umm, I think he may be referring to the styles: you have to admit that The Last Of Us looks a lot like I Am Legend...and there have been a lot of post-apocalyptic games recently.

Ubisoft's I Am Alive is similar too (though not sure about zombies). But many zombie games lately.

Hitman and Bioshock, though sequels look fresh. If Bioshock was another 'under the sea' one I'd agree with you.

Not sure why you think it is fanboyism, but I do see what you mean, just I also think I understand where he is coming from too.

Godem4577d ago

Last of Us, is ripping I Am Legend off completely. If this isn't some kind of companion game to be launched when I Am Legend 2 is out I will be surprised.

All they did was replace Will Smith with a different guy, and swap the dog out for a girl.

Well thats what the trailer showed to me IMO, will see when more info is out.

gaminoz4577d ago

Exactly. I love Naughty Dog, and this game will probably be a lot of fun, but we sure are depressing lately with all our 'post apocalypse' games: must be the 2012 so called prophesy and global financial stress or something...:)

RedHotChiliPepaSpray4577d ago

Overall they got a lot of things wrong but in all honesty ... who really gives a sh*t. it doesnt change a thing about what games better to you at the end of the day

gaminoz4577d ago

Good point...all these awards and metacritic review scores are irrelevant to individual tastes. But they are fun :)

That’s just laughable to me. I think they’ve squeezed all they can out of an 12 year old game

mastershredder20d ago

"Easily" because they see mods, says the gamer. To heck with licensing, terms agreements conditions, etc. all you need to do is belive in mods. Yeah, so real superficial BS yo.

CrimsonWing6919d ago

Do people not want to play a new game? Like, I’d rather see 6 than just a prettier version of a game we’ve been playing since the 360/PS3 gen…

Popsicle19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Yes please. Did pretty much everything there was to do in this game. Took a very long time and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Skyrim is one of my all-time favorites, but I would prefer a new experience.

anast19d ago

They might as well. So far, it looks like ES6 will be mostly developed by AI.

Smellsforfree19d ago

I don't want a next-gen version of a game I've already played to death. Skyrim was a great game, but I'm over it.

I'm Replaying Skyrim (again), and So Should You

Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.

anast79d ago

I tried, but it's a poorly made game that insults its customers.

lucian22979d ago

nah, only mods make it decent, and even then it's bad, and this is after i modded for at least 3 years

Nittdarko79d ago

Funnily enough, I'm about to play it for the first time in VR with 1000 mods to make the game playable, as is the Bethesda way
