An interesting new detail has leaked out from the private Mass Effect 3 Beta
Bioware has responded to the different modes
I don't understand why anyone wouldn't want full story control
You'd be surprised just how many people skip the custscenes/dialogue options in video games just to "get to the action". It seems rather stupid, but there are those who do it. Then again, something like "action mode" might be plausible after a playthrough or two has been completed. But still, those are just explanations I could think of for the possible reasons they would be in there, but they still shouldn't be in there.
i do that sometimes and them im like why the F**K did i do that?
It all depends on the game really to be honest whether i skip the cut scenes or not. or If i have already beat the game or mission i like to skip the cut scenes to get right back into the action. I hate it when developers make a cut scene the save point so when you die or have to restart you go straight back to the cut scene have to wait it out then play and maybe die again. If they let you skip, no problem for me then but some dont. I had this problem once in Riddick EFDA.
I like this. Giving gamers more choices on how they game is good as long as it doesn't weaken any part of the game. Let's face it, not everyone games for the same reason, or we wouldn't have so many genres of games as it is. I just hope they fix it so that the skip current line of conversation isn't the same button for selecting a conversation option.
seriously? wtf is this bs.
I don't see why this bothers anyone. Just ignore the other two modes and be on your way.
how about having all 3 packed into 1 so i'm not missing any aspect to the game. I want action, I want RPG and I want Story....Looks like I'm out of luck!
@ XFON It says RPG mode focuses on both action and story. You are not left behind. You said you wanted all three right? OBVIOUSLY RPG mode will focus on Action, Story, AND RPG aspects, since it's called RPG mode.
RPG Mode, includes both RPG and Story learn to read. Even my very foreign friends who aren't that good at English understood this.
Maybe you need to learn how to read. I want ALL THREE. "Better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt"
sash....are you mentally handicapped?
XFON, RPG mode is a combination of the previous two modes. RPG mode contains "manually-selectable replies in conversation and a normal combat difficulty." Story mode has selectable replies and easy combat. Action mode has auto replies and normal combat. Its not possible to combine all 3 modes.
Like XFON said: WTF Bioware? They must have thrown out any semblance of a story with the first game, where I understand they fired the story writer. FFS - they may as well put out separate DVDs with movies of the best and worst endings.
That ME2's main plot was worse than that of ME1 is hardly a compliment--ME1 was pretty uninspired to begin with. But, yeah, this does NOT bode well for the future of Mass Effect it. Crap like this indicates a shift in emphasis--a fundamental change in how Bioware designs this game, and maybe all of their subsequent games--toward oversimplification. Mass Effect is a series that is DEFINED by the choices each player make. Whoever first pitched this idea should have been fired--the very concept of a "zero choice" mode for an RPG (particularly one like Mass Effect) is inexcusable, intolerable and unforgivable.
Then simply don't choose "zero choice" mode. You do realize you can do that right?
Was getting mad just reading the headline, summary, and comments. Not that big of a deal, though. Same campaign all around, just different approaches to it. Action mode for TPS dummies. Story mode for people who don't wanna deal with an excess of combat. RPG mode for people who want the most robust versions of action and story. RPG mode for me.
I think these modes are cool. I've put hundreds of hours into ME and having these modes will come in handy. For example, people who want to post videos of combat or story or both.
Story mode and RPG mode....w8 wouldn't they be basically the same from some aspect. Wow way to confuse the heck out of some ppl. Then again some ppl just play mass effect for action and dont want to go through all the dialogue. But the preset difficulty is a bummer hopefully it can be changed
I like it. Options are better than none. I'll prolly play through the Rpg mode first time and then go Action mode to try out other classes. Keep it up Bioware I like the new approach. More I read about the game, more it feels like a 2012 game :)
This is the first response were someone actually used logic and reasoning as opposed to the usual N4G ramblings.
NWhy don't they just do normal mode/action mode?
What the fuck.
"We want to stress that these features are still in the early stages of development and will receive considerable iteration and refinement." Obviously I'm not a game developer, but how can a game be four months from release, and a feature that seems substantial, only be in the early stages of development? I love the Mass Effect franchise, but the more I find out about ME3, the more weary I'm becoming of it.
You have no idea how much work can be done in four months.
if it was a choice of Activision or EA for Bioware im still glad they went EA but I find myself more and more lamenting the fact they think we're all little kiddies that need help to choose how we play our games. I really really mind over simplification in a company that for all intents and purposes makes RPGs. I can accept that they are innovating and adapting but it just seems like compromise after compromise and that just seems wishy washy. It also shows me that the core buyer of their games isnt as large otherwise they wouldn't try to have so much mass appeal like MP and now the above.
I agree with everything u said, couldn't have said it better myself.
GeoGaf forums LOL. anyhow i think i will go with rpg mode.
Well if you've played any of the first 2 ME , it's obvious you'd go RPG mode..
Wait you can't set the difficulty manually? WTF?
I think ppl who want developers to make a game they way they prefer it should just make their own game and play it instead of whining so much and deterring the creative process for the developers. I hope movies dont become like this in the near future where ppl get to choose every bit of the film and how its made. Let the developers make their game and you do your own with your own work and artistic expression in your own life. Pls be reasonable fellow gamers.
I like having multi play styles. More reasons to replay the game differently. I'll start with Story, RPG and then Action. RPG is best for 2nd playthrough since I have figure out the best way to level up different elements.
If you ask me, it's not necessary, but completely harmless (just like the multiplayer.) At least the game doesn't assume you're an action junkie who thinks cutscenes are teh gayz. Nothing to get mad about. I imagine "action" mode would have more simplified character development, but I guess I need to hear more.
