I don't understand why anyone wouldn't want full story control

vickers5004973d ago

You'd be surprised just how many people skip the custscenes/dialogue options in video games just to "get to the action". It seems rather stupid, but there are those who do it. Then again, something like "action mode" might be plausible after a playthrough or two has been completed.

But still, those are just explanations I could think of for the possible reasons they would be in there, but they still shouldn't be in there.

xtremexx4973d ago

i do that sometimes and them im like why the F**K did i do that?

IaMs124972d ago

It all depends on the game really to be honest whether i skip the cut scenes or not.

or

If i have already beat the game or mission i like to skip the cut scenes to get right back into the action. I hate it when developers make a cut scene the save point so when you die or have to restart you go straight back to the cut scene have to wait it out then play and maybe die again. If they let you skip, no problem for me then but some dont. I had this problem once in Riddick EFDA.

I like this. Giving gamers more choices on how they game is good as long as it doesn't weaken any part of the game.

Let's face it, not everyone games for the same reason, or we wouldn't have so many genres of games as it is.

I just hope they fix it so that the skip current line of conversation isn't the same button for selecting a conversation option.

XFON4973d ago

seriously? wtf is this bs.

strange19864973d ago (Edited 4973d ago )

I don't see why this bothers anyone. Just ignore the other two modes and be on your way.

XFON4973d ago

how about having all 3 packed into 1 so i'm not missing any aspect to the game. I want action, I want RPG and I want Story....Looks like I'm out of luck!

swice4972d ago (Edited 4972d ago )

@ XFON

It says RPG mode focuses on both action and story. You are not left behind. You said you wanted all three right?

OBVIOUSLY RPG mode will focus on Action, Story, AND RPG aspects, since it's called RPG mode.

Sashamaz4973d ago

RPG Mode, includes both RPG and Story learn to read. Even my very foreign friends who aren't that good at English understood this.

XFON4973d ago

Maybe you need to learn how to read. I want ALL THREE.

sash....are you mentally handicapped?

Arksine4973d ago

XFON, RPG mode is a combination of the previous two modes. RPG mode contains "manually-selectable replies in conversation and a normal combat difficulty."

Story mode has selectable replies and easy combat. Action mode has auto replies and normal combat. Its not possible to combine all 3 modes.

Like XFON said: WTF Bioware?

They must have thrown out any semblance of a story with the first game, where I understand they fired the story writer.

FFS - they may as well put out separate DVDs with movies of the best and worst endings.

That ME2's main plot was worse than that of ME1 is hardly a compliment--ME1 was pretty uninspired to begin with.

But, yeah, this does NOT bode well for the future of Mass Effect it. Crap like this indicates a shift in emphasis--a fundamental change in how Bioware designs this game, and maybe all of their subsequent games--toward oversimplification. Mass Effect is a series that is DEFINED by the choices each player make. Whoever first pitched this idea should have been fired--the very concept of a "zero choice" mode for an RPG (particularly one like Mass Effect) is inexcusable, intolerable and unforgivable.

strange19864973d ago

Then simply don't choose "zero choice" mode. You do realize you can do that right?

Megaton4973d ago

Was getting mad just reading the headline, summary, and comments. Not that big of a deal, though. Same campaign all around, just different approaches to it. Action mode for TPS dummies. Story mode for people who don't wanna deal with an excess of combat. RPG mode for people who want the most robust versions of action and story. RPG mode for me.

tplarkin74973d ago

I think these modes are cool. I've put hundreds of hours into ME and having these modes will come in handy. For example, people who want to post videos of combat or story or both.

zeal0us4973d ago

Story mode and RPG mode....w8 wouldn't they be basically the same from some aspect.

Wow way to confuse the heck out of some ppl.

Then again some ppl just play mass effect for action and dont want to go through all the dialogue.

But the preset difficulty is a bummer hopefully it can be changed

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine189d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast189d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman189d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

He was one of my least favorite characters. I wish they would have done the Proths different.
