PS Vita Pricing - Too Much or Just Right?

It's $300 in America for the 3G version.

$250 for Wi-fi which I still consider remarkably cheap for what it does.

Just right, everyone keeps trying to compare it to the PS3's price to make it seem like it's unfair.

Sadly we're over those days where portables are priced at $150 at launch, and now portables can do more than just play games. I think it's at a perfect price.

I think, if you look at it value wise, which is the means by which all consumer electronics should be judged, then at Pandamobile said, its extremely cheap for what it does. You'd expect something like that to retail for £350-400 in this day and age but Sony got the price right. Got mine on pre-order. Now it's a question of waiting until February 22nd.

Since when is £230-£275 a good price for a handheld console? Thats without any games, so lets say over £300 off the bat. US equivilent would be $350-$450, the fact Pandamobile said its $300 just shows we are getting stuffed good and proper in the UK.

Exactly, in the EU we're getting screwed again. €250 != $250, that's much closer to $350. And that's for the wi-fi version, if you want 3g you're paying $415! That's ridiculous. I hate constantly being screwed on price over here like that. The only ones who don't seem to dot his are MS and the Xbox 360, funnily enough. It's generally the same value in dollars as it is in euro.

You'd be hard pressed to find similar spec'd hardware anywhere else for a lower price.

Name a single other multi-core mobile/portable device with 512+ MB of memory and a capacitive touchscreen for $250.

Find me a PS Vita that can make mobile calls over a GSM network.

Until that day you can't compare hardware spec/price.

Oh and the Galaxy S2 has a dual core 1.5ghz processor, 1gb RAM...and it was 'free' as I got it under a mobile phone contract. :)

Every device has different functionality. They still contain a list of common hardware.

And 'free' under contract? Under contract means you're bound for a number of years. If you think that's free, you don't even know what the word means.

The phone portion of the hardware in a phone costs peanuts. There are phones being made now that sell for under $10 in the developing markets.

Besides, if you get the 3G model then it's essentially a phone, it has Skype so you should be able make calls.

i think everything is maybe priced to high but as things are, for all the tech and features your getting id pay £300 for one, so £229 for the wifi model is just great, deffo getting one day 1 perchase :) omg i cant wait lol

its an excellent price considering what all the handheld dose, its a ps3 in your pocket soo i'll be glad to spend $250 on wifi one seeing that we dnt have 3g in the bahamas yet were still stuck on edge :(

No memory card is required.

Plus PSN has cloud storage to store game saves.

PSN + is a paid for service, normal users don't get cloud storage.

Wow did I hurt your feelings? I am sorry that Nintendo had a rocky start with the 3DS but if it makes you feel any better. Ever since the price cut the 3DS has been selling well. Plus Nintendo has a good holiday line up planned for their fans.

The reason why I compare the 3DS to the Vita. Is because it's the only handheld too compare to. Unless of course you don't consider the 3DS to be a handheld.

I love how everyone's like well its does so much its worth 250-300 dollars. I disagree and even know I know I will get many dislikes for it I will say it. Many of the people I know will not be able to get it because parents I know wont let them. Let me tell you the Vita will not survive on the more mature audience only. Just like the 3DS will be 60 casual 40 percent core the vita will be 60 core and 40 percent casual. 250 will send casuals running. 250 for a piece of tech small enough to be stolen, cracked or lost easily is a lot.

That aside, what makes you think there isn't a whole slew of kids your age running around with smart phones their parents gave them? And what evidence or past experience do you have to prove the Vita can't pull it off?

I ignored what was irrelevant. How many dislikes you get means nothing. The split of casuals to core you mentioned is irrelevant. Your argument about the price point being unattractive to casuals is just untrue.

Yeah, people get smart phones with plans. But they still pay a hefty price, often around the range of what the Vita is right now, if not more. More importantly, the Vita isn't aimed at casuals in the first place, so how they view the price doesn't matter much.

The Vita will do just fine. Forgive me for being pretentious, but I don't think you're old enough to really know.

When they announced it in Febuary and we saw Sony showcase feature after feature people were saying it woud be at least $350.

Sony price it at $250 and everyone is like yea it's worth it then now that 3DS reduced their price people are now saying it's too expensive.
