GameSpy BF3 Hands-On: Artificial Intelligence Analysis

GameSpy - After playing the first four levels of Battlefield 3's single-player campaign it looks like I should temper my expectations and dismount the hype train. There's no denying how fantastic the Frostbite 2.0-powered visuals appear, but that's only one facet of this shooter: I'm interested in how the game's Artificial Intelligence performs under the heat of battle. Will the enemies have the IQ to flank my position, or will they charge headlong into my bullets? What happens if I play devil's advocate and ignore the objectives, how will my squad mates perform? These were the important A.I. behavioral questions I wanted to answer during a recent look at Battlefield 3's campaign.

I am not that surprised. For those buying BF3 for the SP then you are going into the game the wrong way. BF3 is a MP game(more so than CoD) and the only reason SP is in BF3 is to try and boost sales. If they did not include some sort of a SP then some of the market they are going after(CoD market) will pass the game up since it would seem like it has less bang for their buck.

Personally I don't plan on touching the SP for a few months. I am going to jump right into MP and enjoy the game, SP will wait for a long cold winter day.

The faultline trailer looked really, really good, I'm getting BF3 equally for single and multiplayer.

Why are people condemning the single player for its scripts and dumb AI. This is not the only FPS that does this, COD has been doing this for years yet journalists and reviewers don't saying anything.

that's pretty sick indeed; the press and the fans tend to always choose one camp or the other. In this day and age of gaming, everybody seems to choose one side and stick w/ it while bashing the other "competitor" e.g.: CoD/BF Forza/GT X360/PS3 UC/GearofWar it is always about face offs and comparisons. Why don't people just enjoy everything and support every respectable developer out there, that deserve praises.

Well it's not like Gamespy is the entire VG journalism industry. In general, VG journalists are clueless about AI unless it is REALLY good or REALLY bad.

Who the hell cares about single player game.. Everyone knows it's a multiplayer game..

I don't think reviewers should take the single player aspect of this game into count when they do thier reviews. They probably shouldn't of even done a single player campaign to begin with but i'm sure plenty of people will have fun in the co-op portions with a friend. The multiplayer is where the meat of this game is.

I want both exp to be great. BTW, who cares of they check the AI in MW3? Unlike other shooters I will be playing the MP before I try the SP out.

How can you analyze the AI in a game, and not mention the difficulty setting you are playing on? Ass-hat. Was there one? Oh that's right, another "review" of a game that isn't out yet. $5 dollars says the AI gets a helluva lot better when you change the difficulty settings. I hate reviewers who say a game is 5 hours long. (About any game) Yea, when you storm through it on the EASIEST SETTING. DERP DERP.

Halo and Killzone series still has the best enemy A.I. on consoles IMO.
