Insomniac Games' thunderous conclusion to its acclaimed first-person shooter series remains an under-appreciated work of art.
Not a classic in my opinion ; a pretty mediocre PS3 shooter as far as I'm concerned, not bad, not the worst of the trilogy, but certainly not great. Killzone 2 was miles ahead of it (and of most FPSs even today as far as I'm concerned).
I wish they'd bring back the Resistance 2 multiplayer. God that co-op was so much fun.
There are some epic PlayStation Plus Premium shooters, from Naughty Dog's Uncharted series to the high-stakes action of Doom published by Bethesda.
While it's been on ice for as long as it was around, the Resistance franchise has no shortage of quality.
My take:
Single player
3, 2, 1
Multiplayer
3, 1, 2
Overall
3, 2, 1
I beat the lengthy single player in 1 multiple times and spent hours in the online too. Plus 1 featured my home town! Special mention to the audio design in 1: playing that with surround headphones blew me away.
Note: I have the platinum for Resistance 2.
I only played the 3 main Resistance titles. My ranking would be;
1. Resistance 3
2. Resistance: Fall of Man
3. Resistance 2
Man I loved 3's campaign. Another gem stuck on the ps3 and who knows if insomniac will go back to the franchise.
I won't knock this reviewers opinion, I respect it but a system seller? Really...
I bought Resistance 3 and after several updates, install issues (hours of downloads and delete attempts for corrupt files) and then another install I finally got to play.
Two days from the point of purchase...two.
All of that for what was a very, very average game. The first hour or so was really cool. But after that, not so much. I took it back to my local Gamestop and picked up something else. I'm much happier with that game.
Resistance 3 is okay but for me, it was another PS3 exclusive that failed to meet expectations. If you're digging it though, more power to you. I'm no hater.
Game on.
This series is struggling to find it's identity. 2 was a let down from 1 but the 8 player co-op was a a sleeper hit amongst fans and they alienated them by removing it for 3! You can't form a player base when you are changing and eliminating features along the way. You end up with an average game and no true fan loyalty. Better luck next time insomniac (unless rumors end up true and the series is handed off to a new developer)
Not sure what your guys are talking about ...but to each his own..right?
I love R3. R2 was amazing with 60the player mp and the 8 player co-op. The story was largely under appropriated.
Back to R3:
Many of you sound like trolls. Its ok to not like the game. However, if you enjoyed R1 and played R2, there is very little chance that you would have a vocal problem with R3.
On its own, R3 is a very very good faux sci-fi FPS (with a slight hint of fear/horror). The game has an incredible amounts of immersion with a subtle touch vulneralbilty (.. you really get a sense of the stakes ants the state of humanity on the brink..)
Its not with out its faults. The 8 player co-op should have made its return.
Although the graphics are much more stylistic, and the atmosphere is very much improved and heavy (good thing), there are parts that could have been more polished.
The game is a legitimate 8.5 - 9.
....but hey that's my opinion, right? (Forgive the typos - I sent this from my phone)
I own both consoles but play most games on my 360. RE3 was one of the games I have been looking forward too this year on my PS3.
I am enjoying it a lot. For me it'as an improvement on RE2, but not as good as RE1.
Great game.
