Resistance 3 Review | Sestren

I won't knock this reviewers opinion, I respect it but a system seller? Really...

I bought Resistance 3 and after several updates, install issues (hours of downloads and delete attempts for corrupt files) and then another install I finally got to play.

Two days from the point of purchase...two.

All of that for what was a very, very average game. The first hour or so was really cool. But after that, not so much. I took it back to my local Gamestop and picked up something else. I'm much happier with that game.

Resistance 3 is okay but for me, it was another PS3 exclusive that failed to meet expectations. If you're digging it though, more power to you. I'm no hater.

Game on.

RIP_Weazel4976d ago (Edited 4976d ago )

Wow, you just don't seem to have any luck medicant. Two days to download and update, eh?
...another disappointment on the ps3 too.
sigh, it makes me wonder why you still bother. If games on a system I owned consistently failed to meet my expectations, i'd figure, maybe I just dont like these type of games, and switch to another platform. (Not to mention a quicker internet service provider!)
Not you though you brave little martyr!
Suffering through so many crushed dreams, and having the courage to come on the boards and tell us all about your poor ps based experiences.
Be strong in the face of all that adversity little medicant, be strong.

mendicant4976d ago

You should take a grammar and reading comprehension class asap.

I didn't say that PS3 games are bad. What I said was that they fail to meet the hype that PS3 fanboys (not fans, they actually are gamers) give these games.

I enjoy my PS3 collection, I don't need someone else to validate that for me. They are good games but for the most part, for me, very overrated. There are some that stand out. MGS4 and the Uncharted series comes to mind. But Killzone, Resistance, GoW...these were all good games but not even close to the hype built around them.

In the future when attempting to be a smart ass, remember that you first have to be smart.

RIP_Weazel4976d ago (Edited 4976d ago )

Obviously you do need validation if you're listening to hype.

...and where exactly did I infer that you'd suggested ps3 games were bad? "another PS3 exclusive that failed to meet expectations", suggests that this has happened to you numerous times before ("Killzone, Resistance,& GoW" being cases in point), and if you'll READ my post(a complex cognitive process of decoding symbols for the intention of constructing or deriving meaning), you'll see that I echoed your sentiment - "failed to meet my expectations."
As for being a smart ass - I couldn't care less, but if you want to keep throwing baseless insinuations around, knock yourself out. Starter for ten - my dad was also my brother, my momma's so fat, blah, blah, blah.
(Please, just don't start crying again....it embarrasses everyone.)

mendicant4976d ago (Edited 4976d ago )

You're trying way too hard Weazel.

When I mentioned hype (and in the context of the actual conversation) the point being made- that you blatantly missed, wasn't that I listen to hype in regards to purchases. The point was that PS3 fanboys (note: not fans) way over hype these games. Although I shouldn't have to point this out (but it is n4g) that is my opinion. One that I'm entitled to. I respect others views, perhaps you and your kind should do the same.

As for the rest of your comment it doesn't even warrant a response because frankly it's juvenile and stupid.

Have a good day.

Pintheshadows4976d ago (Edited 4976d ago )

Do you have a slow connection? I was playing it within 20 minutes of purchase. I absolutely rate it at a solid 9/10 game as well with an unsurpassed FPS campaign. Certainly of this generation. Did you actually finish it?

Also, God of War, overhyped? I know it's your opinion but in this case for me, it's one I will point and laugh at.

I haven't seen anyone overhype Resistance 3. In fact it was barely hyped at all due to the BF3 vs MW3 battle. Good ol' make believe eh Medicant.

Vaud-Villian4976d ago

This series is struggling to find it's identity. 2 was a let down from 1 but the 8 player co-op was a a sleeper hit amongst fans and they alienated them by removing it for 3! You can't form a player base when you are changing and eliminating features along the way. You end up with an average game and no true fan loyalty. Better luck next time insomniac (unless rumors end up true and the series is handed off to a new developer)

SamPao4976d ago

Well to be honest, I enjoyed every single Resistance game and HELL every game is so unique but I never felt out of the Resistance Univers!! NEVER! They made the Resistance games really awesome.
AND Resistance 3 is overkill, this games is very very very great! Î'm enjoying every mission in the campaing! so for me, this is one of the best games released this year!

Pintheshadows4976d ago

Better luck next time Insomniac. Are you serious. I hope so because it will justify me laughing at you. You say it is struggling to find it's identity but are forgetting the fact that A) Resistance 3 is very good B) It has a loyal fanbase and most importantly C) your opinion isn't taken as the general consensus. If it was the seas would turn to blood and the sky would fall.

dc14976d ago

Not sure what your guys are talking about ...but to each his own..right?

I love R3. R2 was amazing with 60the player mp and the 8 player co-op. The story was largely under appropriated.
Back to R3:
Many of you sound like trolls. Its ok to not like the game. However, if you enjoyed R1 and played R2, there is very little chance that you would have a vocal problem with R3.
On its own, R3 is a very very good faux sci-fi FPS (with a slight hint of fear/horror). The game has an incredible amounts of immersion with a subtle touch vulneralbilty (.. you really get a sense of the stakes ants the state of humanity on the brink..)
Its not with out its faults. The 8 player co-op should have made its return.
Although the graphics are much more stylistic, and the atmosphere is very much improved and heavy (good thing), there are parts that could have been more polished.

The game is a legitimate 8.5 - 9.

....but hey that's my opinion, right? (Forgive the typos - I sent this from my phone)

mendicant4976d ago

Who above are you referring to as "trolls?" I haven't seen anything that was flamebait stated. Or are you just saying that because of different opinions than yours?

You tried that yesterday.

You can't say in one instance that "It's ok to not like the game" and "...but to each his own...right?" and then proceed to say that people are trolls.

Isn't that being just a tad bit intellectually dishonest? If you're going to say it's fine to have a different view, you can't very well turn around and call people trolls because you don't like what they're saying.

dc14975d ago

I appreciate your response and applaud you for doing so. Good dialog (even in disagreement) is an essential component to reason.

Now, with regard to your comments:
I'm not sure what I 'tried yesterday'.

However my points above still stand. Yes, it’s ok to not like a game.
Personally,
I don't like the Assassins Creed Series (Never could get into it.. I tried)
I don't like the MW series (although it’s the most popular franchise in the world.)
I don't like Fear or any other deep horror based franchise. (just not my thing)... again it’s ok for me not to like them,.. however it’s not ok for me to vocalize a disingenuous position to undermine them.
There is a difference between a marginally good game ("No More Heroes" which I love) and a marginally great game (Resistance 3).

My use of the term 'Troll' was in reference to the deliberate downplaying, marginalization and or misrepresentation of R3 for what appears to be personal gratification and or sponsored favoritism.

I like the term you used.. intellectual dishonesty.

Dorwrath4976d ago

I own both consoles but play most games on my 360. RE3 was one of the games I have been looking forward too this year on my PS3.

I am enjoying it a lot. For me it'as an improvement on RE2, but not as good as RE1.

Great game.

Resistance 3 is a Classic, 13 Years On

Insomniac Games' thunderous conclusion to its acclaimed first-person shooter series remains an under-appreciated work of art.

Sony needs to remake the trilogy on ps5

CrimsonWing69166d ago

I’d rather them do a new game in the world of Resistance.

Cacabunga166d ago (Edited 166d ago )

I honestly liked the first one most..
killzone 2 and 3 outshined Resistance 2 and 3 for me in every aspect.

Eonjay166d ago

I absolutely adored Resistance 3 but they do not NEED to remake this game. They should do something that they enjoy and if it is Resistance then so be it.

Mr_cheese166d ago

Loved resistance 3, played the whole thing on co op with the move controller and gun, was very different!

Resistance 2 online was the best

gamerz166d ago

Me too, but also on a 3D tv! R3 was one of the few games that got plastic rifle panning motion right.

isarai166d ago

Such a criminally underrated series, id love a remaster collection of the trilogy.

preciousdeath166d ago

Yes! ...and make them PSVR2 compatible.

Pedrof166d ago

Not a classic in my opinion ; a pretty mediocre PS3 shooter as far as I'm concerned, not bad, not the worst of the trilogy, but certainly not great. Killzone 2 was miles ahead of it (and of most FPSs even today as far as I'm concerned).

pwnmaster3000166d ago

Naw man.
Resistance 1 will always be GOATed for me.
I remember playing all night on multiplayer. Such a fun game.

P_Bomb166d ago

Ah yeah, R1! I cut my teeth on the one-shot Walmart map, lol! Miss that.

gamerz166d ago

Played that demo soooooo many damn times since it was the only thing to play for a while at launch. That and motorstorm.

refocusedman166d ago

killzone was amazing but resistance was great as well. althpugh theybwrre both fps, I think that served different purposes.

JEECE166d ago

Thanks for turning Insomniac into a Marvel studio.

ApocalypseShadow166d ago (Edited 166d ago )

Although I agree on original games and creativity over licensed IP, especially something like Ghost of Tsushima. But Sony's looking at that series selling less and less overall with the 3rd estimated to not even sell 2 million. Gamers who say they loved it didn't really buy it.

While Spiderman the series has sold over 50 million not counting PC. And Spider-Man 2 is over 11 million so far. If you had their business and had to make their decisions, what would you do in their shoes?

JEECE166d ago

@ApocalypseShadow

Umm, that's exactly my point lol. Insomniac made great, original IP games and people didn't buy them because they were too busy lapping up yearly CODs and Assassin's Creeds, so naturally Sony/Insomniac had to pivot to something else.

Knushwood Butt166d ago

So you are saying 1 was the worst?
I respect your opinion but strongly disagree.

I'll start with what I didn't like about 3:
- OK, Nathan Hale is gone but new player character totally forgettable. Can't even remember their name.
- Awful forced in 3D. Just look at KZ3 for 3D done well.
- Online multiplayer that paled in comparison to 1 and 2. Put hundreds of hours into the first two. Probably less than 10 hours into 3.
- Campaign was OK but I played the other two more, especially 1.

Pedrof165d ago

1 had my favorite gunplay of the trilogy (no need for COD iron sight) so I guess my worst would be 2. At least 3 wrapped up the storyline, supported the move controller and had prettier graphics. But in my book, none of the three really stood out. From that era, I prefered Singularity for example and obviously Killzone 2.

I wish they'd bring back the Resistance 2 multiplayer. God that co-op was so much fun.

Resistance 3 is such a great game. One of my all time bests.

cooperdnizzle1033d ago

Couldn’t agree more. Still love It as a shooter to this day.

Just something about that game. I really wish they would just do a remaster, don’t even need a remake just bring it up to todays out put, touch up a few things if any, and I am there to buy it day one.

Of course I would love a remake built from the ground up. As long as they treated it like Shadow of the Colossus, or close to those type of remake. Wouldn’t want it to get the RE treatment…. Just because the game is already paced so perfect and hits all the right beats that I wouldn’t touch that aspect.

My take:

Single player
3, 2, 1

Multiplayer
3, 1, 2

Overall
3, 2, 1

I beat the lengthy single player in 1 multiple times and spent hours in the online too. Plus 1 featured my home town! Special mention to the audio design in 1: playing that with surround headphones blew me away.

Note: I have the platinum for Resistance 2.

Eidolon1089d ago

Resistance 1 MP will always be my favorite. Call it nostalgia or whatever, but that was my jam, felt more balance, natural.

Miraak82 1089d ago

i have the platinium too , 10k kills in online ranked matches was no joke . Took me 3-4 months straight grinding but it was fun . To put it in perspective you only got like 25 kills per match if you were 1st place every match that's at Least 400 matches in 1st

Sciurus_vulgaris1091d ago

I only played the 3 main Resistance titles. My ranking would be;
1. Resistance 3
2. Resistance: Fall of Man
3. Resistance 2

GoodGuy091091d ago

Man I loved 3's campaign. Another gem stuck on the ps3 and who knows if insomniac will go back to the franchise.

fr0sty1090d ago

Resistance, Warhawk, MAG, Motorstorm, there's so many first party gems on PS3 that Sony has just left to die...

P_Bomb1090d ago

Never played Burning Skies but I still have Retribution.

monkey6021090d ago

Burning Skies was about 3 hours long and rather inconsequential. You haven't missed anything

porkChop1090d ago

Honestly, Burning Skies was shit. There's no two ways about it. At first I thought it looked terrible, then I second guessed myself. Big mistake.

darthv721089d ago

Retribution has this really cool feature where you could use a PS3 to link a controller to it and play. So if you had a 2000 or 3000 hooked to a tv, you can use a real controller. All of this predates the PSP Go's ability to sync a sixaxis to it via bluetooth.

Yui_Suzumiya1090d ago

Resistance 3 was shocking and brilliant. Loved it.
