Oblivion Remastered Breaks 4 Million Players in 4 Days

Bethesda Game Studios writes: We are so grateful to the over 4 million of you that have already ventured into Cyrodiil with Oblivion Remastered. Thank you!

Obscure_Observer32d ago

Congrats goes to Todd and everyone at Bethesda and team Xbox for another huge milestone!

Hopefully after this huge success, Phil might greenlit New Vegas Remastered powered by UE5 as well.

Fingers crossed!

lukasmain32d ago

I wish for, at the very least, maybe Fallout 3 remaster? I mean the success of the show proves that not just hardcore gamers are ready for a great updated Fallout game. I believe it could potentially be even more successful than the Oblivion remaster. But I do like your idea of a New Vegas UE5 , because I actually never played that. Bethesda are better under Microsoft, I agree with you now after this "remaster". It's much cheaper and faster to do something like this for an old classic game. Reminds me of when Capcom started doing that with RE2. Gamer goodwill became skyhigh for Capcom. Fingers crossed indeed

--Onilink--32d ago

F3 Remastered already came out on the court documents, so unless it was cancelled, which sounds unlikely as it would the best they can hope to have to match any releases of the TV show since F5 isn’t coming out any time soon.

That said, I do agree that if this has proven to be a hit and I don’t see why F3 wouldn’t be if it gets the same level of treatment, they will probably want to do more

Yui_Suzumiya31d ago

There's a rumor that Fallout 3 maybe remastered next.

raWfodog31d ago

Maybe they’ll remaster Skyrim next!

🤣

I know you joke but there’s already been 2 different retail remasters, so it wouldn’t shock me if they did another.

anast32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

It's on GamePass. According to Steam DB: it has a 190k peak, which is not close to 4 mil. It didn't even reach 500k on Twitch stats and owner estimations are hovering around 1 mil or less.

anast31d ago

Read my comment. I stated that in the very first part.

Yeah, let's listen to you anast and not an official release from the developers, because, you know, he used twitch and steam peak numbers and his calculator lol...

anast31d ago

It's not official. There aren't any official numbers. It just says 4 million people touched the game. At least the numbers I provided give a sketch of what's going on. They devs are being vague to market the game. By the looks of it not a lot of people are buying it.

Michiel198931d ago

the bonfire pisser is back, before i even saw the comments i knew you woulda been playing the Gamepass excuse card to say its actually an unsuccessful, bad and unfun game. At least the horse armor is free, so you can't cry about that this time XD

thesoftware73031d ago (Edited 31d ago )

anast,

"At least the numbers I provided give a sketch of what's going on"

No sir, it did not, you didn't even count PS5 lol.

"By the looks of it not a lot of people are buying it."

Huh? Twitch and Steam DB is what your whole "Sketch" is based on, don't make me laugh, it doesn't even make sense, not everyone uses Twitch, and the game is available on way more than Steam, and you realistically have no idea how many console or PC GP players played played the game, and again you completely left out PS5.
The install base of PS5 and Xbox GP console alone could easily push it to 4 mill players.

Just stop, your "Sketch' is incomplete , nonsensical and ill conceived.

31d ago
anast30d ago

It's called a sketch for a reason. Please look up the words you don't understand before you waste your time.

Lightning7731d ago

You also said 190k peak which isn't close to 4m. You confirmed its on GP then basically said it can't be true because of steam. Your comment is makes no sense and confusing.

thesoftware73031d ago (Edited 31d ago )

It's called reaching, and it's a symptom of being stuck in a fictional console war, even though the game is on PS5 lol.

His entire post was a hard, hard reach that when he wrote it, he was absolutely aware that it made no sense, and haphazardly constructed, especially leaving out PS5, the largest install base. He could not fight the overwhelming urge because of his blind dislike of MS...so what does he do? he posted it anyway without care of embarrassing himself.

Tedakin31d ago

Clair Obscur just broke 1 million sales in 3 days. Oblivion has been ahead of it on Steam all week. What does that tell you?

L3e31d ago

Thank you, was not aware it was on GamePass.

I don’t think Steam metrics are anything to go by to determine a game’s success. I see so many YouTube Doom and Gloomers using the guestimation metrics for Steam (which I don’t feel are accurate) and make videos about how a game is a failure, only to be hit with the company saying so-and-so game sold 2 mill (I’m using Dragon Quest 3 2D/HD and Dr. Disaster). You look at something like FF16 (sold 3 mill) and what the Steam DB says, same with something like FF7 Rebirth.

Point is, I don’t think the Steam DB metrics is anything you can use to gauge a game’s success. Not without the full facts.

Well done, despite not getting exact sales, this is still great news because the budget for this and the development time wouldn't have been much at all when compared to a full 6 or 7 year development window and the cost that would entail. So it does seem like a great success and even better when you consider that they shadow-dropped it without paid marketing. Hope this team is already past pre-production on another "remaster" of another classic, I'm personally hoping for Fallout 3 remaster

MaximusPrime_32d ago

Microsoft realised how stupid they had been and delayed following Sega's example.
There you go MS, worldwide lots more people own PS5 or PC than Xbox. You got the money you're desperate for.

To be truly Sega, don't bother releasing a new console. Just focus on software.

"To be truly Sega, don't bother releasing a new console. Just focus on software."

MS will continue to release new consoles as they´ll continue and make tons of money out PC, PS5 and Switch 2 as well.

Gamers on other platforms will happily pay full price for amazing Xbox games while we get everything day one on Game Pass.

It´s a win win for everyone.

Extermin8or3_31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

Why? Assuming game pass market penetrative remains as it is now i will continue to lose money or onl just pull a profit. Why would MS continue to run it? When they can cut the cost out and make a tonne of money just selling games the games. Eventually, sooner rather than later the investors will call time on it. That's why next xbox is basically a rebranded ROG Ally.

Bethesda is better than ever under Xbox.

Here´s hoping they will transition from Creation Engine to UE5 or UE6 for TES VI and Fallout 5 the same way they did with Oblivion Remastered

andy856d ago

Better than ever? They've released an average game in Starfield and an absolute disaster in Redfall. Now don't get me wrong I love Oblivion but "under Xbox"? they've prettied up a game the actual talent created 20 years old and have since left. Stellar new experiences remain to be seen for that better than ever tag.

Obscure_Observer5d ago

"Now don't get me wrong I love Oblivion but "under Xbox"? they've prettied up a game the actual talent created 20 years old and have since left."

Didn´t known that Todd Howard left Bethesda. Besides, bring actual proof that the devs behind Oblivion left, because I think you´re on some lying bullsh!t here. I´ll wait.

Lightning775d ago

Redfall and Starfield were made way before MS bought them.

Abear216d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Would Bethesda still be the same without Creation Engine? I play Bethesda games for their “charm” no need to make them use the same tools as everyone else. You’re right though, they’re on fire atm. Hopefully they deliver another classic with ES6

PRIMORDUS6d ago

Also the Skyblivion team invited to Bethesda Studios, now that is a dev I can respect.
https://www.pcgamer.com/gam...
Unlike some other studios who are pieces of shit along with Nintendo.

Goodguy016d ago

It's definitely closer to a remake as well and for only $50 when they definitely could've charged $70 and still sell very well because of the name. Good on bethesda.

Abear216d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Imagine what RDR2 remaster would do. If the rumors are true about Red Dead and GTA4 remake just buy Take 2 stock now

joab7775d ago (Edited 5d ago )

I love how everyone says Bethesda is back. No. The company that made this game has proven they are AAA status when it comes to remaking games. They deserve 90% of the credit.
Though I’ll give Bethesda credit for allowing it to happen.

I do WISH they had t dropped it at the same f time as Clair Obscura, literally the best new IP in years.

Modder turns Oblivion Remastered into a "true" first-person experience with immersive camera tweak

A modder unhappy with how the first-person camera view was implemented in Oblivion Remastered decided to make a better one (with a few bugs).

anast6d ago

Of course they did. Bethesda should do an RPG maker at this point.

MrWood6d ago

True first person is just adding the Unreal Engine VR mod. Runs perfectly!
