Deep Silver: Dead Island influenced by The Walking Dead

GB: "We recently got a chance to sit down with Deep Silver and ask them some questions their upcoming FPS, Dead Island. We asked them if their upcoming zombie invasion game has been influenced by any popular pop culture comics/books/movies/games or anything in general, and pointed out that the game has similarities with Walking Dead, the famous comic book series."

It's also influenced by Night of the living dead, Return of the living dead, Dawn of the dead, Day of the dead, some from Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness and also Braindead, Zombieland and 28 days later...

From what I've seen, the only similarity with Walking Dead is that Dead Island has zombies. Otherwise, the tone and everything else about it is different.

StitchJones4767d ago

That's a lie. This game has been in development longer then the Walking Dead graphic novel has been in publication. Nice try to bolster sales. The game is going to be a fail because everyone is calling it a cheap L4D clone.

Wizziokid4767d ago

wait what? you do know the walking dead came out in 2003? it didn't start with the TV show...

Shubhankar4767d ago

The Walking Dead's comic series began in 2003. The TV show is based on the comics.

This is called good PR. And an opportunity to hire veterans over scrubs.

phoenixwing371d ago

Not to call them scrubs but yeah some veteran devs are more welcome than others with less experience

Flakegriffin370d ago (Edited 370d ago )

You can hire veterans all day long but it’s the talent Microsoft lacks.

Zeref371d ago (Edited 371d ago )

It was mostly outside of gaming. Most of the game studios weren't affected besides 343i and Coalition from what I recall

Charlieboy333371d ago (Edited 371d ago )

But of course. Just look at the latest Saint's Row....that is exactly the level of quality and writing that Xbox strives for these days.

Aloymetal370d ago

Nope, like Redfall, Craig infinite

There u go. This is way more acceptable than buying up studios. Buy individual talent until you strengthen your already owned studios. 👏🏽

Dead Island 2 devs believe a Dead Island remake would be a “mistake”

We might be in the age of remasters, but it doesn't look like the Dead Island 2 devs believe remaking the original game is the right move for the series.

but remakes require far less effort for these companies and they can still charge $70 for them!

Feel like everyone makes fun of Skyrim re-releasing like 18 times yet applaud these remasters elsewhere. Would much prefer NEW games

CrimsonWing69555d ago

Making sequels really is the way to go. Otherwise we'll be stuck playing only the first entry, forever!!!
