i don't much deference between the 2006tech PS3 and high end modern PC versions with a casual look.

IMOO the only deference that matters is the 64 player mode on the PC.

I once gamed on PC and never saw the big advantage to it, other than graphics. With this game however, there is a difference. Player count and larger levels make the PC version the clear winner in this case. I wouldn't say it's a full generation ahead though.

If I'm getting a PC that does everything a PC does, plays/encodes HD video, and has these great graphics in gaming, that is totally worth $700-$1000. I've played FPS on my friends PC and I prefer the controller. I dont know maybe bc I've been playing with a controller since the beginning of consoles. I also found it harder to play on a controller then with a mouse and Keyboard or I should say aiming with the mouse. Pointing to where I wanted to shoot seemed easier then using my thumbs to aim on my dualshock. Or maybe he had it on easy setting for me bc I was a noob on his PC.

That was always a turn off to PC, the ease of point and click......i would think its much easier to point and click than to aim with analog sticks.

OVERRATED. Yes, the combination owns in games not optimized for gamepads (nearly every PC version of any game ever), but there are plenty of gaming PC owners who opt for controller support when it's properly integrated.

Example:

1) Using a controller for Source games = stupid and you'll get destroyed.

2) Using a controller when playing games LIKE CoD against keyboard players = a more balanced playing field than you'd think. High sensitivity coupled with sticky aiming over a target virtually removes any perceived KB+M advantage.

Support for Keyboard and Mouse on console will become normal if game consoles have enough features to warrant a more conventional PC interface. Until that time, no game needs it.

On topic: I believe DICE will do the best they can with the time they have. They strike me as a developer that takes pride in their work to a point they would take it personally if one of the versions didn't live up.

I think we should read his comments in context; he's not talking about the few people who have top end PCs that can run this game on max. The majority of people don't have a PC that could push BF3 beyond what you would get from PS3 (aside from the maps and player count).

To get what you're seeing in the demos would be quite costly; I don't think it's possible to build a gaming PC for £250. That said I am looking to build a PC and expect to spend between £1500-£2000 (for everything).

You dont even need that high end gaming PC. 600$ PC will run this on medium settings np. Look up Dices recommended video card for this game (not minimum) its the gtx 460. Thats not that high end.

DICE havent actually stated the minimum reqs for BF3 yet. However lots of sites are saying that the demos so far have all been shown on a single GTX580 so that would be the GPU i'd go for.

Also the price is for everything, including monitor, kb, mouse, OS etc.

If a GTX580 is the card Dice uses to demo the game, it means most likely means that that's the card that'll run the game absolutely flawlessly, which means no hiccup, no slowdown, no stutter, minimum 45-50fps, vsync enabled, max settings on 1080p or higher. I think unless you are rich you should be content with running a next gen game with 30FPS with some bits of slowdown here and there.

Well would you look at that, Bad Company 2 is still in the top20 top sellers on Steam. It's also played more on the PC, BF2 and 2142 still have communities, hell I can still install 1942 and jump into a game.

The heart and soul is with the PC, and the PC version will inevitably sell more over time then the console version. EA knows this, they saw it happen with Crysis another game that ate the average computer for breakfast in 2007.

Aim assist, it comes in lots of different forms. Hell, if I aim across the grass and someone is prone there your cursor will slow and try to stick with the guy prone. I've also had plenty of times where I would line up a shot and another enemy would cross across and the game would decide it was going to follow him instead of the guy aiming at me.

M/KB lets everything be dictated by you, there is no input from the game. You will also see that like with the Wiimote and Playstation Move, it doesn't have the limitations with your movement and aiming like standard analog sticks. Basically this doesn't create the artificial ceiling skill wise present in most console FPS.

The M/K vs controller is not a viable argument to bring up, who would play with a controller against someone using M/K.. Its easier to use a M/K so he would have the disadvantage.

In many cases yes, of course every game is basically built on a 'PC', even console exclusives.

But it seems DICE designed their engine to squeeze what they could out of each platform, lighting for example is done differently on each. PS3 seems to be their primary console, but I'd wager thats thanks to Sony as MS push COD, Sony will get what they can from DICE/EA. But I dont think either console will be seen as a 'lead' over the other.

They're going above and beyond what most multiplat game developers do and yet they're still getting stick because some kids think their £200 box of dated hardware can complete with bleeding edge PC.

Well to play Battlefield 3 at the highest setting, the graphics card will probably have to be $100 or more, so finding a $400 prebuild computer, in other words a manufacturer created computer, will be near impossible except for Ebay. One way I see some people get a nice computer for cheap is to buy a bareback computer, desktop with no internal hardware just the frame, supports, ports, and jacks, and purchase your internal hardware yourself. One issue I see with this is you must now the capabilities of the desktop you have, not all desktops can run any hardware, I ran into this issue with my old 02' Sony Vaio desktop when I bought and attempted to install a GeForce 5600 into that old cow. From personal experience thought it is cheaper, I have a Alienware M14x with Intel family hd chipset graphics card, Intel core i7 2 GHz processor, 6GB Ram, Samsung HM500JJ disk drive, Realtek HD Audio, A Razer Naga Mouse, and a BlackWidow keyboard all for around $900. If I was to purchase all this from Dell, excluding the mouse and keyboard, I would be looking at a hefty $2000 or more so although it is a laptop it is still a good example of custom design computer advantages.

I made this point earlier about a gaming PC which costs £250 (~$400). I don't think it's possible - a good GPU will cost around £150 (top end will cost £400+) and that's already most of the budget gone; add in motherboard, CPU, PSU etc and it just isnt workable.

Yea Sorry Rettom, but $400 for a modern, top notch gaming pc is close to impossible. You best bet is to either save up for a manufactured prebuilt, spend money over time for custom built (I recommend this kinda build) or find a cheap pc that could have the the specs to run low-medium settings for Battlefield 3 or any other 2011-2012 PC games. I cant tell you what kinda specs you will need for Battlefield 3 just yet, but once the game, or specs, come out it is just a matter of research and money at that point.

i3 cpu and a 5850 or 6850 ati graphics card. 4GB of ddr3 ram is plenty. Focus most of the budget on the graphics card - but a dual core cpu could struggle a tiny bit in some new games.

you should stretch your budget to $550 or something though.

If they have actually optimised BF3 it will use a lot less CPU than BC2 (which somehow used a lot more on PC than there even was available on a 360 simply because you had it there on your hex/octo core so they could pretend it was properly CPU optimised - even if your fps was capped by graphics performance)

The specs are fairly predictable and aren't really 'important' in PC gaming anymore (been this way since about 2006). Developers usually aim game performance at the popular graphics cards of the time:

Minimum graphics card will probably be 8800GT or 9800GT (or equivalent ATI like 4850) and the recommended will probably be 460GTX / 5850 or 5830. All these cards are quite popular and represent the mid-low to mid-high range of performance.

But to properly run BF3 maxed out at a res 1680x1050 or higher will probably need a top of the range card (570/6950 or better) due to heavy tessellation. The suggested specs of games are almost always worse than they should be, same with minimum - so aim building your own PC a little above the suggested specs if at all possible.

Oh I totally agree, but when I saw all the, may I say, whining critics talk about Battlefield 3 on the Playstation 3 I had to shake my head. This is not a insult to you the "Sony fanboys" it is a insult to the extreme Sony fanboys who felt, I guess, heartbroken about Dice's presentation of Battlefield 3. It was overall immature, and made many proud Playstation users look like child's play. Sony has gone from that system no one but rich people had to almost the greatest selling system on the video game market, behind the Wii I believe but the Wii is actually 75% child's play lol. Sony has attracted the hardcore gamer crowd heavily and are still pumping in consumers. Straight to the point, both Xbox and Playstation will without a doubt reel in the greatest Battlefield audiance, but because of one critics statement Dice seems to be pretty upset with the whole Sony crowd, which is unfair but seems to be true. I don't know that Dice is upset for sure, but I can see where they would come from if the feeling is true.

I think I remember hearing that BC2 sold more on PC than the 360 or PS3 and I also remember hearing that it had a lot more concurrent players, and that was a pile of junk console port on PC yet it was still given a chance. BF3 seems to be a proper PC game, or at least they are marketing it that way, so I would expect even bigger PC sales this time.

But if there is one thing that I can predict for sure, it is that BF3 will have more PC players 3 months after launch than 360 and PS3 combined. Every decent multiplat has gone down that road except black-ops and mw2.

BF3 also has a big chance to take up a large amount of players in South and South-East Asia, where PC gaming is slowly getting extremely popular (because it is vastly cheaper than console gaming in many countries). This will be the biggest FPS launch at a low price since the market has taken a foothold there (because MW2 and BO prices were fairly stationary worldwide).

If your PC is worse than others, lower the graphics settings so you have higher fps.....

I doubt there will be much of a difference between PS3 and 360 versions, probably dedicated servers.

Havent seen the 360 version so i cant comment on that. But the PS3 version looks fine to me. I mean sure it will be better on PC but its still worth buying on consoles. Its not like they will pull a crysis 2 with this title.

Hell no. They ain't nowhere near similar. 1080p 60fps > 720p 30fps, 64 players > 24 players, Mouse+keyboard > controller, Steam/Xfire > XBL/PSN...

And yeah, i own PC and PS3.

Maby they mean it could support dedicated servers on PS3, which is highly possible and particularly worth mentioning like this because we know M$ have something against them so they won't be available on the 360 version.

Other than that, the only way they could be very similar is if they consolise the PC version loads (like BC2 amounts).
