Rockstar "Spazzed Out Like Little Babies" Says Simpsons Producer

A trio of EA developers have fired back at Rockstar on Geoff Keighley's Game Head program. Executive producer Matt Selman explained the controversy:

"The game begins with Bart wanting to play a game called Grand Theft Scratchy. Of course this is a parody of Grand Theft Auto. And Marge immediately takes it away from him. She tries to clean up the town and stop the game from being distributed in Springfield because Marge is against video game violence. She uses horrific violence to stop video game violence… in a video game. Thats called irony… The people who make Grand Theft Auto, they spazzed out like little babies."

Senior producer Matt Warburton chimed in: "They're supposed to be rockstars… That's not a big Rockstar move, to be afraid of The Simpsons making fun of their game."

I'm not shocked by this.

Usually people who poke a lot of fun at people, and you KNOW no subject is untouchable in a RockStar (especially Grand Theft Auto) game, do not handle being made fun of themselves too well. I could see R* not reacting to "spazzed out like little babies" too well. They should really just have a mission in GTA where you have to find and kill "Gomer Pimpson", a fat balding pimp who works at a nuclear power plant.

Karebear6437d ago

LoL! You've lived up to your name on here. Bubbles :)

Bathyj6437d ago

Wow, I never thought I'd side with EA for anything, especially ove Rockstar, but indeed R* need to grow up a bit here.

For one, its the Simpsons, they parody EVERYTHING cool. They should be honoured, not upset.

Second R* parody everything themselves. Wasn't there a mission where you had to kill a "Poorly animated" driver who would get out of his car and make a run for it. They even ripped off his animation cycle to make it look like Tanner from Driver 2. I thought i was piss funny and a brilliant little in-joke. You know, the kind of thing that makes you feel smart cos you got it and can explain it to your friends.

Any if R* no longer feels parody is OK then they are going to be struggling for characters, dialog, settings and storyline.

And I hope Martin Scorsese sues their arses.

Rockstar will probably have mission where the player has to blow up a game company which goes by "GA". q:

rockstar themed episode.

its never a good idea to bash a cartoon company, especially one with huge amounts of viewers. anyone remember issac haze and the whole south park episode (the death of chef)?

goodganja6437d ago

That's promotion for R*. They should be able to benefit off this. But yeah, I'm with everybody else when I expect some EA or Simpson's related mission in GTA IV.

The Simpsons Arcade was awesome

VenomUK499d ago

I never knew there are TWENTY-EIGHT Simpsons games!

Stuart5756498d ago

Its crazy when you look at ALL the games they made. Same with Assassins Creed, when you count in all the handheld and mobile games there are three times what you may have thought. Some of it shovelware though. I completed Simpsons Arcade recently at a local retro gaming arcade, awesome, I really felt like a 90's kid all over again, except my back was hurting!!

Hit & Run is the best. We totally need a remake... or even a back compat release.

chicken_in_the_corn1096d ago

Why a remake? Why not a new game?

Orchard1096d ago

I'd be down for either :)

RedDevils1095d ago

I like the old Simpsons cast more.

ZycoFox1096d ago

No Virtual Springfield? Though tbf it was more of an experience than a game, even though it did have some little gameplay in some parts. Fun for fans though.

Hit & Run was great, my only complaint would be that Homer didn't have enough missions, the game could've been a bit longer and bigger.

NecrumOddBoy1096d ago

This! Virtual Springfield is hands down the best Simpsons game. Such love and a modern take on that (in VR) would really bring the 35 years of Simpson-mania together in one massive package. I would love this!

-Hermit-1095d ago

Homer didn't have enough missions? What do you mean? Homer and Bart were the only 2 characters that got 2 levels each.

Venoxn4g1096d ago

I myself liked the DS version of the Simpsons game much more than the one on main consoles, it was a proper 2D platformer game, I recommend.

chicken_in_the_corn1096d ago

Hit & Run is in dire need of a sequel. They could do so much more with the upgraded tech.

-Hermit-1095d ago

15 years without a single Simpsons game now because it's in the hands of one of the worst companies, EA. A license in the hands of one of the worst companies and look what they have done to it. They have effectively killed it to make money off that crappy mobile game.

brewin1095d ago

Im with you, I hate when companies effectively kill off a franchise like that. They could have done anything with the license and they did THAT?! 🤦🤷

brewin1095d ago

My dream would be for Volition to use the Saints Row engine for a Simpsons open world game. Would be awesome!

brewin1095d ago

Hit and Run was by far my favorite, even though I loved the Simpsons Arcade. I even had the full old school cabinet in my house at one point! A video store in my town went out of business the guy sold me the arcade unit for $50 😳 I couldn't say no! Good times.

I totally wish we could get a new Hit and Run sequel or similar open world GTA style Simpsons game. I loved exploring the iconic places in game. I'm so glad I live near Universal Orlando, the Simpsons themed parts of the town are amazingly detailed and fun to be around, even if the rides suck.

How much you want to bet a Simpsons game remake wouldn't have Marge wielding that vacuum?
