As I played through Darkspore, my opinion of the game kept changing. It's a dungeon crawler in the vein of Diablo or Torchlight, but in a futuristic setting. While many games in this genre essentially end up being Diablo with a pretty coat of paint, Darkspore introduces a number of fresh ideas and concepts that make it a whole lot more than a clone.
Darkspore is back on Steam, following its recent removal from the digital distribution service over service issues.
In the wake of the game's removal from Steam, developer Maxis has denied claims that Darkspore has been abandoned, instead announcing that a persistent play-denying issue has been fixed after months of gamer complaints.
GameZone writes, "Electronic Arts has reached out to us to clarify some confusion stemming from a game-breaking bug in Darkspore that resulted in players unable to log-in to the game and its eventual removal from the Steam store."
At first I thought this game was awesome. Then after about 4 hours in I realized this game was not opening up and nothing "new" was being added. Simply upping the stats of your characters through body modifications and unlocking newer (sometimes the same with slightly diff abilities) creatures just felt like a let down.
NO depth to the game. It feels more like a free to play game to me than something I (regrettably) spent $40 on.
