Ripten - Gears of War 3: Looks Better, Plays Better, Is Better Than The Rest

Ripten - Jacinto has fallen, the Gears are on their back feet and on the run from a never ending enemy, but it’s only getting worse.

The Cog, humanity’s last chance at survival, has been disbanded and after the fall of Jacinto, the imulsion that once powered Sera’s cities has now infected the Locust, turning them into a vicious and deadly enemy; Lambent.

The story sounds, and will definitely be “epic”. Epic Games has worked tirelessly on turning the third and final game into something of such a high caliber that it almost feels like a brand new game.

I went back and tried to play Gears 2, and I just couldn't do it. After playing this beta I'm glad they pushed the game back for even more polish but the wait until September is going to be pain in the ass.

Agreed, I probably played a total of about 25 hours between Gears 1 and 2 and I'm already up to 19 in the beta. Much better balance between the shot guns and assault rifles and I haven't noticed anyone glitching either.

Never enjoyed Gears of War's multiplayer until this beta. The gameplay feels smooth and less weighted. I'm sure whatever balance issues will be resolved and I'm just looking forward to September. The multiplayer is showing real promise and has been the biggest weakness of previous games. I wish as a surprise at the end of the beta they give us a week with Beast mode.

I'm also someone whose never played Gears online in much depth, I just played Horde in Gears 2. I'm really enjoying the Gears 3 beta though, if anything it's the map layouts that really sell it. I also like the limited respawn system for team deathmatch because it really encourages teamwork.

If the beta is anything to go off of Gears 3 is going to be the best selling exclusive game this year. I also think it's a strong candidate for GOTY.
The beta looks better and plays better then either Gears 1 or 2. I cannot wait to get this game!

Gears is the highest rated Exclusive new IP Franchise this gen and the highest selling new Exclusive IP franchise this gen.

Naturally this game is going to be EPIC and a strong GOTY candidate.

Don't feel sorry for 360 players at all. They have two of the best shooters on their console that's actaully online right now, Halo and Gears of War...Hell Call of Duty is practically exclusive since it's a wreck online with the PS3.

Can't argue with that, PS3 has some of the best single player exclusives I've played. Heavy Rain is one of my personal favorite. I do believe Xbox has the upper hand in exclusives with better multiplayer. Except for LittleBigPlanet, that games is awesome and the community levels always seem to amaze me :D

I still prefer Gears 1. I am glad that they are doing a beta for Gears 3. Maybe they will fix some of the issues that I have experienced while playing. It is really fun, but I still just prefer the darker griminess of the first game, and a lot of the gameplay aspects that have been removed in Gears 2 and now Gears 3. It is a good game so far, but I just like Gears 1 better.

Ok i will attempt to without going overbaord give the jist ofwhat i was tryin to say. I have played the Gears 3 beta, it was ok but nothing really special to me, the only real excitement came from pulling off gruesome kills but it ended there, everything else was mediocre at best to me and even the kills seemed to be cheap at times, enteraining for periods of time but overall not something i feel i could play for months or even weeks on end, not enough depth to it.
In the overall look i dont see how it stacks up well to other games out that are multiplayer, I just have a hard time getting why this is getting so much hype and praise (other then finally having ded servers) when it only seems to be comming from those who have been hooked since the first and it has attracted almost no one else. Its like its over the top just to be over the top and it comes off like a niche game a tight niche.
Now for all the praise and such especially it comming up often in "system wars" i dont see how anyone who is a fanboy or into bragging about exclusives could convince themselves that this game is really that good and can compare with PS3 exclusives comming out this year. The game isnt bad but its not all its hyped up to be, the same way many recent COD games have been, it may sell well but its just not worth the $60 in my book and i dont know how much they could change it to make me think different. Same way i felt about Socom 4, another 3rd person exclusive multiplayer game, i thought it wasnt bad at all but just not worth the full price and IMO i would even lean towards Socom 4 before Gears 3, i get they are different games at the core but similar enough to compare because i dont think you could even compare with UC3 which will blow it away and i am not even a fan of the series either but UC3 will be beast and maybe the first i really give a chance.
Sorry for all of those who are beyond thin skinned and feel the need to act like children when someone doesnt say what they want to hear or it comes from someone who doesnt own the things they own. Maybe if everyone didnt take everything as if its a personal message to them they could understand what i am trying to say and not label me a troll for having opinions which differ from theirs. IF IT DOESNT APPLY LET IT FLY!

I agree with much of what you have said DDELELLA, those are many of the problems/things i didnt like that i encountered and overall i feel you have explained alot of what i am trying to say. +1 for you!

This game is only better than previous ones in the series and not so much to giants like Halo and COD. The graphics are not that improved over GoW2. So far with the beta the biggest disappointment is the seriously unbalanced weapons, cover system glitches, and the new game types are kind of lame. I mean what is the fun in a King of the Hill game where you don't have to be in the hill to capture time? They have plenty of time to fix the weapons but I wish they had used the beta time like other games and made changes during the beta period so we could provide feedback. Now they will have to guess and hope it works out for the final release. I'll buy the game and play the campaign till at least patch 2 before playing multiplayer. I stopped playing 2 simply because the leveling system got ridiculous by level 50. Even with 30x XP weekends it took forever to level up.

It seems that the majority of the comments are spot on with the exception of a few people disagreeing. The beta is an absolute triumph for Epic and I could not be more pleased with it. As a fan since the first iteration, the 3rd is the biggest and best improvement overall. People fail to forget that this is just a beta with months of polish still to come. We still have the campaign, Horde and Beast mode to look forward too plus more. The graphic are the best bar none. No other game compares to the sheer awesomeness of this franchise and if you don't agree there is always COD...lol.

Gears has never had an identity crisis like some of these other so-called "Halo and C.O.D.killers" out there. The originality and freshness that it brings to the table should be respected and admired by us all considering the number of games that come out on a yearly basis and are forgotten just as quickly as they came.

Yeah Gears has so much going for it that's why it's talked about so much. If the naysayers comment on it like they do and as often as they do, it's doing something right. SOCOM 4 just came out and will be nothing but a whisper a couple months from now.
I know Gears is not for everyone but it's so different from everything else out there. People that don't even play the game like to watch it especially when the player is good it's like a great action movie. Not many other shooters can provide that kind of entertainment for the casual bystander.
