PlayStation Network Developer: Outage Definitely Affects Our Bottom Line

PlayStation Network has been down for nearly a week now, and as frustrating as it's been for PS3 owners around the world, it's perhaps even more worrisome to the entire community of independent developers who've made games for the network and rely on download revenues to make a living. Dylan Cuthbert of Q-Games told IndustryGamers that he's already taken a financial hit in the last few days.

This is getting ridiculous. C'mon Sony fix the damn thing!

trounbyfire5165d ago

i am sure they want the say thing after all they are losing money not you.

lee_ten5165d ago

they're working on it. what more do you want?

SuperStrokey11235165d ago (Edited 5165d ago )

It should have been secure in the first place.

Edit:
Seriously someone is disagreeing that it should have been secure? Really?

rockleex5165d ago

It should have been secure against something that no one saw coming? O_o

jacksons985165d ago

@SuperStrokey1123
Sony is a big organization, I'm sure their system was secure. I work in IT, the more secure your system is the more sophisticated the hackers become. It's an on going battle. Even the Pentagon get's break in's.

lee_ten5165d ago (Edited 5165d ago )

SuperStrokey1123: sony couldn't have foresee this coming. this is the first time something like this happened (from my knowledge). i believe their system was secure as well, it's just that whoever did this knew what they were doing. if anything, people should be angry at the culprit, not the company trying to fix it.

They are getting it secured. They are probably building the security from the ground up which will take a while. They could have brought PSN back up right away but instead they are getting it secured.

Scyrus5165d ago

if sony didnt take thier time and make sure the hole is sealed then devs wud lose more money cuz the hackers were getting everything for free, soooo yeaaaah

sikbeta5165d ago

Next article will say the outage affect lives as-well... this is thing blows out of proportion, the only thing affected is my ability to play the online events in GT5 and that's it...

Karlnag35165d ago

Yeah you're right. Obviously only you matter. How selfish of them!

sikbeta5165d ago

Oh... and there are the millions of guys that can't play online and more importantly the Deves that can't get the money since PSN/Store is down...

The way I see it is the outage only delays their paychecks. If anyone was ever considering to buy a game before the outage, they will most likely just do so once the PSN has been restored.

I am more worried about the consumers that had their credit info stored on the PSN.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi5165d ago

Yup.

I never use my card for online shopping. I'm just paranoid I guess.

SuperStrokey11235165d ago

It will actually reduce their cheques for sure. Games try to position themselves for a release window where they think that they will do the best fiscally. This may have to do with few competitors or marketing or something else.

If this is off and limited then there will be less demand and thus they will sell fewer games and thus make less money. Its foolish to say that a company that literally requries PSN to be up to make money wouldnt be losing money when its down.

As for the CC people, i wouldnt worry. All of your purchases are protected on a credit card. You find something wrong on your statement you just call them or often they call you and bam its off and you get a new card 2 days later. Credit cards are extremely safe to use online due to their policies.

Rolling the Dice: Do Modern RPGs Miss the Point of Team-Based Play?

It seems it was long time ago. A bunch of friends spending hours on end playing RPG games, sitting around the table with the box of cold pizza. Excited about the story, listening to the Game Master, they were completely engaged in the worlds only visible to them and their imaginations.

The GM is the programmer, and in MMOs and co-ops, you can play with others. If you want to ONLY use your imagination for the visuals, read a book.

1) Hope they put it on disc this time.
2) Hope this is a positive for Neptune coming over as well.

Demons Souls5486d ago

If so, that's being developed & published by Idea Factory. Compile Heart has nothing to do with it (Thank God for that).

Godmars2905486d ago (Edited 5486d ago )

Thought Compile Heart was one of the companies lending characters.

Was also speaking in general as in regards to a US of Neptune. If these guys are offing a second game, NIS or Atlus, both of whom offer quirkier titles, will put that one out.

@kagon01:
My issue isn't - wholly - with the DL-only option, but the price. The first game should be $30. Maybe $40, and by that I mean $39.99. The only reason its $45 is the 360 disc version which has extras. Nevermind that by all rights its a PS2 game. Something that proabbly could have been done if the devs had the GOW2 engine or tools.

ClownBelt5486d ago

I approve of this god damn message.

Could have gotten my 60 bucks if they just put it on a disc.

Another exclusive damnn the ps3 keeps on rollin wit games awesome ;)

Jack-Pyro5486d ago

Is this a half decent SRPG, porn aside, cause if it is, i might just decide to go and buy it for the 360.

Anon73495486d ago

There's no porn just some sexual innuendos but that's it.

Also it is a great game by itself, maybe not graphically but everything else is top tier.

RedDevils5486d ago

so it had some kind of "top tier" porn story jk

ThanatosDMC5486d ago

Yup, it's a decent game. I just hate that a move has to go first before any attack options.
