Free Realms Review

SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) has struck gold with its newest release on the Playstation Network with Free Realms. Free Realms is a free to play MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online game) that grants players a freedom of experience that before now, was yet to be seen on the Playstation.

I downloaded the free to play version expecting to run around a little and then delete. Several hours later I bought a lifetime membership and I stayed up waaaaaay too late playing it. I'm a big Home defender, but Home should have been more like this. I've run into a few bugs here and there but nothing major. It's probably not for everyone. It's obviously aimed at kids, and I'm sure many older teens and young adults will be too cool to be seen playing it, but I think it's pretty damn fun and am very interested to see where it goes from here.

I was under the impression that the entire game was completely free when I heard about it months ago. Then I got it for PSN the other day and saw that there were different memberships. Thats fine an all, but what exactly do you get for buying a membership as opposed to the free and basic version? I haven't started it up yet so I don't know.

Free is capped at lvl 5 I believe.

no i am in the United States..connected to Free Realms launch day after hours of "cannot connect t o game" errors, after playing it i loved it and bought a 1 month sub to it...now all i get is "You have been disconnected from the server"

yeah right, how bout try paying for your internet instead of stealing your neighbors before you pass judgment on a psn mmo. BTW. I was one of those skeptics, especially after I heard how supposedly the game was broken day one, but I got on day 2 and haven't froze up once, or had one game breaking issue. Voice chat works perfectly unlike DCU, and the graphics were better than I expected. Alot better. I'm buying a lifetime membership as soon as i can.

Why would you assume i am stealing internet from a neighbor? That does sound like fun but i am my own internet service and i would not touch Wifi with a 1o foot pole. i just want the game to work and for people to stop releasing games before they are ready..

You're a dumbass, it's probably a server side problem not his internet. He's having the same problem I am, stop getting mad at people just because they haven't had the same experience with the game.

Im having the same problem, I can't connect to the game. Sucks because I really wanted to try this out. BTW, I don't steal my internet either.

It did the same thing to me at first. How I solved it was deleting the game and reinstalling it. Worked perfect then.

My son was having a blast playing yesterday. I'm about to sit down and play start playing it for my review of it.

While this isn't a bad game, it's not all that great either. An 8/10 seems a bit much, I think. I'd give it a 6/10, personally.

I love that we're getting to the point where MMO's are starting to become a bigger thing on consoles, though. I really, really hope Planet Side 2 will be brought to the PS3 as well. That would just kick ass. =P

Many UK/EU guys playing the US version? I actually found the game a surprising amount of fun for small blasts on the PC, and have been looking forward to the PS3 version for a long time.

That said SCEE show no sign of when they'll bring it to us EU players. Worth dedicating my time to the US one or waiting it out?
