CNN's Review For 3DS Is An Epic Fail

Tbf on the whole the 3rd is a piece a crap IMO. On the one hand sf4 looms quite beautiful on it when you turn the 3D off but assigning combos to the touch screen so noobs can mash away on shit I've spent 20 years mastering? Really capcom?

They don't assign combos. They assign special moves. I agree it's rather noobish, but on the other hand, now it's all about strategy, and everyone how you fight rather than 'who can do the Shoryuken motion without messing up'. A noob won't win because of a hadouken button. He'll win because he plays the game well.

I think this article is overreacting, though.
1) He wasn't saying it in a negative, way, he was just making it clear where the graphics on the 3DS stand. In fact, he's just saying that it's good enough that hardcore gamers will love the graphics, but they won't be comparing them to HD consoles.
2) He said the Iphone is cheaper and does more. And at least at the 3DS's launch, that's certainly true.
3) This criticism from CNN probably isn't fair, but it's just an aesthetic complaint.

Yea, he is just stating that while the graphics for a handheld have grown tremendously, they are still not up there with consoles. All in all, he is saying the graphics are up there, so what's the problem?

And, the iOS references make complete sense, as now people aren't willing to bring multiple devices with them on the go. People have smart phones, and for quick bursts of gameplay, that satisfies a lot of people. Apple/Android have been aiming at the mobile gaming market for quite some time, if you didn't notice, so they ARE in the same market.
So yea, his review was actually decent.

People who are satisfied with gaming on their phone didn't grow up playing console games. It's its own market. If you are a hand held gamer that likes deep gaming experiences on a hand held device, you're going to get a 3DS, an NGP, or both. The iPhone you might play with, but it's in addition to those others.

I think the biggest problem other than that that people have with this review is that the fact that 'He grew up on Halo' is supposed to mean something. Halo is a great series and all, but I and others blame it for too many of us gamers going nutso over the First Person Shooter genre these days. Those kind of people tend to see all of gaming through FPS glasses. What's a guy like that doing reviewing the 3DS for on National T.V.? You know before he even opens his mouth he's going to have a negative slant with his opinions.
