Top Spin 4 is Move compatible, but 'not Kinect'

When Top Spin 4 was announced in September, publisher 2K Games busted out accolades like "uncanny level of realism" and "all-new innovative controls," which certainly sounded like euphemisms for "you're going to play it with swinging motions." At the time, associate producer Michael Kelly told ESPN that support for PlayStation Move and Kinect was "something we are looking into, but I can't confirm or deny that it will be in the final product."

because in this game you would need an object to hit the ball

and buttons to move with.

darthv725264d ago

step into someones back swing and you got all the force feedback you will ever need.

DualConsoleOwner5264d ago

Kinect is too laggy and glitchy for this game.

Bigpappy5264d ago

This game was in production for a while. It was always intended for wii support, so porting to the Nove did not require ceating a whole new input program. to support kinect, they would have to have the in-game avatat follow your full body motion, which would require enough work to delay the game.

darthv725264d ago

I'll give you an agree because I knew about the development cycle. Others would choose to disagree simply because of who you are and not because you are wrong.

To everyone else...yes the game was not developed with kinect in mind from the beginning. The control scheme was taken from the wii and modified to accommodate the move.

In all fairness, that is one advantage move has over kinect and more games should reflect this in the interim of dedicated move title development.

nycredude5264d ago

If this game supported Kinect they would ave to change the name of the sport to hand ball, with a net...

Obviously it`s not on Kinect, you wouldn`t be able to control the character and play at the same time. This is not surprising.

fr0sty5264d ago

Not only that, but it lacks the accuracy to detect minute things like spin put on the ball. You can't have a game called top spin where you can't put... top spin on the ball.

Kon5264d ago (Edited 5264d ago )

You move to the left, you char moves too, you move to the right, you char moves too, you move forward, you car moves too, you swing your arm, he swings too. How it is not possible? You really should play Kinect first.

fr0sty5264d ago (Edited 5264d ago )

do you have a tennis court sized living room? didn't think so. have you seen kinect track wrist movements down to the slightest twist without lagging or glitching at all? didn't think so. now you know why it isn't possible. Kinect can do a lot, but there are many things it just cannot do being a camera only system. It cannot see little twists of your wrist, or the EXACT (down to the millimeter) angle of your hand, and all of these things are very important in a tennis sim. add lag to the equation, and you see why they didn't even bother.

playing table tennis on kinect sports is a good example of why this would never work for a tennis sim. it's accuracy is nowhere near that of move/wii's version of TT.

MariaHelFutura5264d ago

@kon

LOL. Oh.My.God. You are really TOO funny. I`m gonna enjoy watching your dislike for me, drive your comments into complete stupidity.

KingME5264d ago

@Frosty, I get you point however it is flawed. First off, playing tennis is no different that play ping pong or table tennis as far as the swing goes, swing over the top for topspin, down for slice, etc.

As for moving around on the court they could easily use leaning motions for moving your character left or right, moving forward or backwards could also be accomadated by simply moving toward or ways from you TV.

I think the reason for them not including kinect is due to the development cycle and the fact that the game was in development for a while. It a little easier to port wii controls over to move.

I'm a bit disappointed in this as this is the type of game that Kinect would excell at. If I get topspin 4, I probably get the move version because of the motion controls. However I may actually pass on it all together for them not delaying the 360 version to make it kinect compatable.

sp1deynut5264d ago

...table tennis on Kinect Sports.

This is just another case of devs being lazy...or having a console bias. Either that, or this decision was made well in advance of Kinect selling 8 million units in the first 2 months. I guarantee you their next game will have Kinect support.

@Jukins - That was a stupid arguement. Don't forget were are talking about a video game here.

Stop trying to make the concept overly difficult.

doG_beLIEfs5264d ago

Kinect cannot detect rotation of the wrists, speed of the arm, positioning in 3D space at anything more than the most basic level if at all.

30fps is just not fast enough and the software just is not capable of constant tiny changes in pitch, rotation, speed and direction.

This is one of the main reasons why Sony abandoned what they were doing with the Eye Toy and PSeye. Dr. Richard Marks said so himself.

Someday software will be able to do all those things...but it STILL will not give you tactile and force feedback...nor will it give you buttons.

Until the Holodeck becomes reality...there will be no Kinecting for me....and unless some major breakthroughs happen...I will not see it in my lifetime.

TerrorCell5264d ago (Edited 5264d ago )

its a pity that it can detect spin i play kinect sports bowling and dont have a problem spinning the ball down the lane

and also because move is just a Wii clone anyway. dont deny it

jneul5263d ago

lol to put spin on your bowling ball you have to over exaggerate your whole body movements, i mean really, at least move does it like real life so all you kinect sports wingers take a leaf out of your own book, go play tt on sports champions and we shall enjoy owning you because its so much more precise than your version of tt on kinect sports...

really top spin 4 should be played with a regulat DS3 or 360 controller. i love the controls and it a sim so you want timing to be key

no move and hell no to kinect

fr0sty5264d ago

what? you won't get anywhere near the accuracy of actually swinging the controller and it detecting the top spin you put on the ball with a DS3. nice try.

trounbyfire5264d ago

yeah i know but you are not actually hitting and its is not virtua tennis top spin is a sim.

I play top spin 3 everyday and yes i mean everyday and i still have trouble timing some shots and my serve. if you were to play a hardcore sim then move would be perfect but top spin is a sim not hardcore.

Well I guess they don't like the idea of actually selling games.
Nice way to alienate more than half of your potential buyers.
I WILL NOT be buying this.

thereapersson5264d ago

How the hell would you play the game with Kinect? You're making a big deal over something that you know isn't possible in the first place.

Trroy5264d ago

Because you only own a Kinect, but otherwise are a big Top Spin fan, right?

Bathyj5264d ago

Nice way to alienate gamers, by having an add on that cant play core games.

Who should you really be mad at?

doG_beLIEfs5264d ago

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

And NOW you know why so many gamers say that Kinect is nothing more than a gimmick that has MORE limitations than innovations.

PlayStation Move Controller Used to Perform Surgery on a Pig That Was 5,780 Miles Away

A group of surgeons made headlines after they managed to perform an endoscopic procedure on a pig located in Hong Kong by using PlayStation controllers. It involved the use of a PS5 DualSense controller as well as a PlayStation Move controller.

jznrpg246d ago

There is at least a few good jokes that could come from that title

Cacabunga245d ago

Yet another powerful device Sony gave up supporting. KZ3 move was one of the best motion controller implementation ever

just_looken245d ago

Right the ps move was awesome i have the gun thing from killzone still.

Relientk77246d ago

That's really cool. It's crazy something like that is possible with gaming controllers 1000's of miles away.

Lexreborn2245d ago

Guess that submarine should’ve used move controllers instead of logitech
