GR - Tactical RPGs are hard to come by--it's a relatively neglected genre. The few that exist, however, are almost legendary. Here are ten of the best tactical RPGs of all time that no strategy-loving armchair general can afford to miss.

I snagged Valkyria Chronicles off ebay and I'm LOVING it! Certainly not my taste at all, nor was it what I expected..but I still love it :D

Fire Emblem, FFTA, and Tactics Ogre were some of my favorite games on the GBA.

Worth mentioning that the FFT port on PSP is loads better than the PS1 original. Classes are better balanced, translation is a hundred times better, and the animated cut scenes add a lot to the story.

I beg to differ. You would not be a fool to buy the game off PSN. I personally on the PSP screen think that the original game looks better. However, like you said there are the cut scenes, voiced dialogue during them and the extra classes and characters to boot.

Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the all-time greatest games. Too bad they made the sequels on portables....although, they weren't in the same league as the original.

Where are Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis and Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber? This list is not legitimate without those.

WHile i agree that summon night 3 and growlanser 3 should be on a must play list , every list must end at some point and can't contain everything sadly ..

Disgaea, still the best and most fun to play. FFT and Tactics Ogre are both wonderful games also.

X-Com was my definite favorite. It's only a shame they decided to do the X-box 360 version as a first person shooter, when it could have been cooler played like Valkyria Chronicles.
