Really is this the Mass Effect 3 engine the PS3 is running?

I really hope this is the case. I would love to see cross platform parity for this game. Regardless, it is nice to see that it is close even with the demo build. It leaves me hopeful that BioWare can polish it even more for gold.

Anyways, judging from the site, the 360 version does look much better and more detail in some pics. I think there's two posibilities here:
1/ Like you said IGN have different build (which I don't think it happened. What's the point of giving the inferior version to gamers, they know that gamers are the ones who judge the game right?).
2/ IGN make the x360 version look worse in order to hype the PS3 version for sale. In this case, it's possible 'cause IGN tends to mislead their gamers for some reasons.

@Gohadouken: I don't understand what you mean by saying i'm hypocritical. The guy said that the GOW3 demo looked like ps2 compared to the main version. And I disagree with him because the demo was not that bad. It wasn't compared with anything, and it was shown everywhere with the same quality.

However, for Mass Effect 2, it's different. IGN claimed that the Ps3 version is better, and we don't see that in some of the screenshots here. Why doesn't Bioware give us a same demo version that they give IGN?

They've turned up the lighting way too high.

The lighting engine is a lot less exaggerated in the ME3 engine. I hope more devs stop exaggerating light and shine/bloom and shadows.

Sometimes I swear that these devs don't live in the real world, but some world where a slight amount of light causes objects to brighten up to compare to the sun. And shadows are as defined as stripes on a zebra.

On the last picture, the PS3 version looks like the gamma has been turned all the way up, and the details lost. The first picture looks blatantly bad when compared to the 360s version.

Something doesn't seem right to me. I almost feel like they've got the comparison the other way around, listing the PS3 version where the 360 version should be. Notice how on the video, the 360 version has a greenish tone to the game, with a slightly washed out look. If you compare that to the first picture on the Gameblurb site, it seems like the 360 version should be on the left, and PS3 on the right.

Theres something really odd about these comparisons. I mean IGN and the DEVs said it will be better on the PS3 and then all of a sudden these strange demo comparisons. In IGNs video theres a big difference in the jacob models and the one on the right is clearly the 360s jacob

I think this site is BSing the comparisons. Take a look at IGNs, comparisons of COmmander Shepard with jacob.Yep, I’m calling BS on this comparison.

I do not remember the Xbox360 version looking as good as it looks in some of these pictures.
This is coming from an unknown site and IGN, Gamepro, PSBlog, and the other site’s showed comparisons. Something’s not right with these comparisons.

I’ll be waiting for the full game to come out next month to see a full game comparison from LoT.

hmm...the quality between the two ports are all over the place. Sometimes the PS3 looks superior, other times it is the 360. I am digging the cleaner, more defined shadows on the PS3 in slider #5. Sometimes the faces appear lit more naturally on the PS3...kind of a toss up at times.

On the PS3 it looks like there are some missing depth of field effects in image 6 and the explosions are less fiery on image 7. But most of the time I prefer the lighting on the PS3. Still a solid looking port.

Okay coming from a guy that uses photoshop. The Close up pics of Miranda and Sheppard looked shopped. In Mirandas case the PS3 side looked like it was cut and pasted and the edge made to look jaggy.In Sheppards case, looks like around the fore head area,someone used the smoothing tools to take away texture.
I played the demo and I must say I am impressed with both the game play and graphics.

This is very difficult to determine which one is better, they both look really good honestly. Like everyone has said, it's back and forth. PS3 has more of a soft look which is nice but then X360 seems more detailed sometimes. /shrug at least everyone has it now :)

Honestly both look fantastic. But I find myself agreeing with both MicrocutsX2 and LORD-PHOENIX. I think sometimes the 360 looks better other times the PS3. However I don't believe this is the final version of the game. I think this is just for demo purposes so people can try the game. I think the final version will be running the ME3 engine but the demo is still only running the ME2 engine.

I think it's funny. All these time since the ME2 was announced for the PS3, the fans were saying that the quality of the PS3 version was far more superior than the 360. Now we see these screens... The 360 clearly looks better(more detailed). And i'm seeing alot of excuses coming from PS3 fans. It looks like the new engine lowered the graphics instead of making them better.

For everyone talking about a new engine, I am pretty sure it has absolutely nothing to do with the graphics, only the performance. It should perform more efficiently. No I don't remember where I read this haha, but it makes more sense. I don't think Bioware would build the game completely from the ground up.

It looks fantastic, I played both ME's(Sounds almost rude eh!?!) through my Xbox and the yarn they spun didn't really need the great graphics but PS3 owners are in for a cool game indeed. I am guessing that the demo is an old version. What seems fake is the differences in the images that these sites have when compared to each other. Just look at LoT and compare it to this. The differences are like night and day. Something strange is going on and i think that its because people dont want to believe that the PS3 got the better version. Just face it with one year of development they can fully optimise the engine for the PS3 so its normal that it would look better than the 360 version of Mass Effect 2. What should be a tie is Mass Effect 3 since they already had dev experience on making mass effect on the PS3

Nevermind. Figured out why it probably is. Demo builds are submitted at least 3 months prior to there release, so this build has to be at the very least 3months old, not counting time for development of the demo itself. Which would explain why some sites have different quality screenshots...

Although still, the game don't look too bad on my TV.

Pic #1 - The texture detail looks better on the 360, but the lighting and 'smoother' skin, looks much more realistic on the PS3 screen.

People seem to automatically see something as better, simply because the textures are more detailed, yet PIC #1 the PS3 shot looks a lot more pleasing.

All this pixel counting, has anyone stopped long enough to notice the demo was boring as sin? My gawd. Half the gameplay is just choosing what to say, lol. Holstering your gun with select is gay, no gun quick swap, sluggish cover system. What's so great about it? The Dead Space 2 demo DESTROYS Mass Effect 2. I was surprised given the hype.

Both versions look great. I downloaded the PSN demo and it looks excellent. The lighting looks better, but at the same time, IGN's comparison can't be right...I've put almost 100 hours into my ME2 saves on my 360 and it seriously doesn't look that washed out and blurry like it does in IGN's video.

Both versions look good, seems the PS3 version has some better lighting and the 360 version has some better textures. Enjoy the game PS3 owners (whoever hasn't played it yet).

In the last picture, the woman looks hot in X360 but in PS3 looks like a monster with that horrible lighting. Notice that her hair does not cast a shadow over her face in PS3.

The 360 shadows look kind of bad in the 5th pic just look at the shadow underneath sheapards head. On the PS3 it looks smooth and on the 360 it has a stairstepping effect to it

It is really funny how everyone is getting bent out of shape over these minor differences. I mean, it is an old game ported to a new platform and running on a new engine. So of course there will be differences in rendering...not necessarily a bad thing. Just be glad that PS3 users can play this wonderful game.

This is the only game I've ever seen that half looks good on the PS3 and the other half of the shots look better on 360.

In addition, I was a bit disappointe by the LBP2 demo. Not a fan of the bouncepads or grabinator so far.
