GameBlurb: Versus - Mass Effect 2 Screenshot Comparison [720p/HDMI]

GameBlurb writes, "Our Versus feature pits screenshots of cross platform titles against each other and you the viewer will decide the outcome! It’s PlayStation 3 vs Xbox 360 and the game that’s going to square off is BioWare’s Mass Effect 2. Which will emerge victorious? Or will the battle end in a wash?"

There are moments where it looks like the Ps3 looks better and then there are moments the 360 looks better (first screen).

Really is this the Mass Effect 3 engine the PS3 is running?

LORD-PHOENIX4875d ago (Edited 4875d ago )

of screenshots and in motion the ps3 version running the updated engine clearly looks better and more polished

this sites comparison to me the 360 version looks better..which means the demo of the ps3 version that this site is using is clearly not evident of the final gold version that sites like IGN have

reminds me of the gow3 demo,it looks like a ps2 game compared to the final version, fact is demos should not be used in comparison to retail versions of the same game as the gulf between demo and gold version can be quite large as this comparison and gow3 have shown

jaidek4875d ago

I really hope this is the case. I would love to see cross platform parity for this game. Regardless, it is nice to see that it is close even with the demo build. It leaves me hopeful that BioWare can polish it even more for gold.

GOW3 demo looks like ps2 game compared to the final version????? LOL I beg to differ.
Anyways, judging from the site, the 360 version does look much better and more detail in some pics. I think there's two posibilities here:
1/ Like you said IGN have different build (which I don't think it happened. What's the point of giving the inferior version to gamers, they know that gamers are the ones who judge the game right?).
2/ IGN make the x360 version look worse in order to hype the PS3 version for sale. In this case, it's possible 'cause IGN tends to mislead their gamers for some reasons.

jadenkorri4875d ago (Edited 4875d ago )

i call foul on this site and those images. Not N4G but gameblurb.

Masterchef20074875d ago

And to back you up cause some people refuse to believe the facts unless they see it

http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

And some key screens incase people dont want to open the page

Gohadouken4874d ago

@rjdofu

fairly hypocrite and it shows . Guys like you were actually more than happy to mention the issues and lack of polish in the gow3 demo .

And did the end product improved on that ? well yes .

junk3d4874d ago

So GameBlurb was accurate all along. Check out these screens from NeoGAF:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

rjdofu4874d ago (Edited 4874d ago )

@Gohadouken: I don't understand what you mean by saying i'm hypocritical. The guy said that the GOW3 demo looked like ps2 compared to the main version. And I disagree with him because the demo was not that bad. It wasn't compared with anything, and it was shown everywhere with the same quality.

However, for Mass Effect 2, it's different. IGN claimed that the Ps3 version is better, and we don't see that in some of the screenshots here. Why doesn't Bioware give us a same demo version that they give IGN?

Seriously, I replied LORD-PHOENIX about ME2, and you attack me because of GOW3?

HolyOrangeCows4874d ago (Edited 4874d ago )

"720p/HDMI/Poorly Done Settings"
They've turned up the lighting way too high.

The lighting engine is a lot less exaggerated in the ME3 engine. I hope more devs stop exaggerating light and shine/bloom and shadows.

Sometimes I swear that these devs don't live in the real world, but some world where a slight amount of light causes objects to brighten up to compare to the sun. And shadows are as defined as stripes on a zebra.

On the last picture, the PS3 version looks like the gamma has been turned all the way up, and the details lost. The first picture looks blatantly bad when compared to the 360s version.

EDIT: Upon viewing this video from IGN: http://www.ign.com/videos/2...

Something doesn't seem right to me. I almost feel like they've got the comparison the other way around, listing the PS3 version where the 360 version should be. Notice how on the video, the 360 version has a greenish tone to the game, with a slightly washed out look. If you compare that to the first picture on the Gameblurb site, it seems like the 360 version should be on the left, and PS3 on the right.

Masterchef20074875d ago

Theres something really odd about these comparisons. I mean IGN and the DEVs said it will be better on the PS3 and then all of a sudden these strange demo comparisons. In IGNs video theres a big difference in the jacob models and the one on the right is clearly the 360s jacob

evildeli4874d ago

With all the hype over the ME3 engine, I thought the PS3 would spank the xbox, but it looks more inconsistent. I'd give shots to the xbox and some to the ps3.

MmaFanQc4875d ago

I think this site is BSing the comparisons. Take a look at IGNs, comparisons of COmmander Shepard with jacob.Yep, I’m calling BS on this comparison.

I do not remember the Xbox360 version looking as good as it looks in some of these pictures.
This is coming from an unknown site and IGN, Gamepro, PSBlog, and the other site’s showed comparisons. Something’s not right with these comparisons.

I’ll be waiting for the full game to come out next month to see a full game comparison from LoT.

morganfell4875d ago

It's late here but in the morning I'll turn on my capture gear and shoot some similar PS3 screens in 720p and get them posted.

GodofSackboy4875d ago

PS3 version is a demo, xbox version is retail.

meh

evildeli4874d ago

True. The PS3 retail might fix the lighting issues by release

units4875d ago

because im hearing the ps3 version has lot of screen tear

Kiroe4875d ago

Just got done with the demo, and yes there is some noticable screen tearing on the PS3. I am looking forward to Digital Foundry's analysis for this one.

Nitrowolf24875d ago

yup i notice to. I'm thinking it's because it's a demo and possible an earlier version. idk gonna end up buying it anyway

jaidek4875d ago

hmm...the quality between the two ports are all over the place. Sometimes the PS3 looks superior, other times it is the 360. I am digging the cleaner, more defined shadows on the PS3 in slider #5. Sometimes the faces appear lit more naturally on the PS3...kind of a toss up at times.

liquidxtension4875d ago

wow the results are all over the place. I can't decide which is better cause there are cases one screen looks better than the other. The lighting looks better on the PS3 on most shots though.

PattHpapong4875d ago

I love these Versus features

osamaq4875d ago

the GPU of the ps3 suck, that's why the x360 looks better on most of multi platform games

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan21d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
