IGN AU: Top 10 Games of 2010

So that's another year done, then. Oh sure - there's still still a few weeks left in 2010, but the only games yet to be released this calendar are 'Last Minute Impulse Buy 2010' and 'Wii Shovelware 7' - the games that actually matter are already out and IGN has played them, dissected them and long debated their respective merits.

God of War 3 is my personal GOTY. I can't wait to play Mass Effect 2 next month and see just how it compares.

The list was OK. In the end, the correct game got the top spot. Nothing is touching Mass Effect 2 for the rest of this gen, or indeed for even game of this gen. It's out there on it's own, and the only thing I can see topping it is ME3, and even that is a bit hard to fathom.

However, as lists go, it's criminal that IGN AU didn't include the best online FPS this gen has seen thus far - Bad Company 2. This gen is mostly all about online play, and for them to omit such a game is lacking knowledge. Not surprising at all for the modern game journalist.

ME2 and Bad Company 2 are by far the two games that impressed me the most this year. Both came with relatively little hype. Both delivered above and beyond what was expected of them.

Uncharted 2 was better seeing as it didnt water down elements of the first game unlike mass effect 2 which lost a lot of its rpg elements which was sad.

I actually hated ME2 and mainly because they removed all sorts of armor customization and other RPG elements from the game. Also the combat felt boring. It was pretty disappointing for me especially coz ME is my favorite game on Xbox. Surprised not to see Halo:Reach out there especially this being IGN. Never expecting GT5, these guys didn't even review the game.

ME2's combat was one of it's bigger improvements over the original. I can't see how that makes it more "boring".

I guess this is all subjective but I found the combat to be lacking in challenge. However my main gripe with the game was the removal of RPG elements. I felt that they did this because they wanted to sell armor customizations to us (DLC, collector's edition bonus etc) instead of it being loot in the game which you could collect just by playing (a basic for any RPG) ME2 was a good game but IMO it is hardly one of the best of all time as it is being touted in the corporate gaming sites.
