Motion-Controller FPS Done (Almost) Right

When the Wii was first announced, way back in 2005, I was thrilled by the prospect of the motion controller. I knew that it could come off as gimmicky, if not handled well, but I also knew that it had the potential to revolutionize gaming. In the past five years, the motion controller has sort of done both. It has become a staple for family-centric party games, but also has been largely shunned by the hardcore audience. Part of the reason for this is that the Wii does not output in 1080 high definition, which is becoming a necessity to the hardcore gamer, but another reason for this shunning is that no one has really perfected the first-person shooter (FPS) with the motion controller.

Personally, I liked the motion controlled FPS in The Conduit. Does that make me crazy?

I like Wii FPS'es...they are simple to control and all :) don't need move to play FPS, wii controls are enough for me.. (MOH: heroes 2, Conduit, others ...) ..and yes I didn't read article :)

I personally hate that all the gaming companies are focusing on motion control. Just let me sit on my couch with a comfortable controller in my hand and play until my heart's content. I dont want to flap my arms about trying to make a digipet perform tricks. That ship has sailed, just concentrate on bringing out good games for the price we pay.

It will probably get really bad for a while, then people will get extremely bored with it just like they have with every motion controlled thing in the past.

My worst nightmare is coming true! Motion Control taking over the industry, regular controllers going the way of the Dinosaur. That's when I retire from mainstream gaming and form the underground society for controller only Gamers.

i was only afraid of an avalanche of casual games..

and this controllers are suppose to be easier to use so casual people can join the fun..

I can see next year’s E3, is going to be sad watching MS and Sony try to be Nintendo and both will proclaim that there motion controls are the best and beat each other in sale and are better than the Wii, very sad future indeed…

It's better than wii (move), hardware, accesory, functionality, and games, nobody has to proclaim to be nintendo.

I thought maybe the author would have gave some kind if insight, but I'm afraid I wasted my time. Wii controls and Move controls do not mimic dual analog sticks, and shouldn't. Motion controls are a new way to play and should be looked at that way. If someone want to play with dual analog controllers then do so, there are plenty of options out there. I for one enjoy the motion controls of the Wii and Move. Metroid Prime on the Wii was one of the best Fps shooters I've played. I've also vetted MAG w/the DS3, and now I'm about to do it again with the Move. I'm glad to say that I for one really enjoy motion controls

I completely disagree with you, for me the mouse is the best aiming control there is and when I heard of motion controls myself I hoped they try to emulate it without the bounding box, it didn't happen then move came out and I am hoping again and it didn't happen again.

I kept hearing people say it would leave you dizzy or the small movements would get picked up and keep the camera shaky but if someone has fixed that then why couldn't the big names do it. I will never play a FPS with a bounding box, as much as I dislike analog stick fps controls I rather that than a stupid box limiting my movement.

This was a good read and its something I've been asking for a long time. It would be sad that a hunting game would be the first to do it properly, if its true.

I've hated Wii/Move controls since the Wii launched, and have been actively criticizing them throughout Move's launch. However, while grinding through some MAG matches, I started getting better after about 4 hours. Now I'm not saying I'll get better with Move than I ever was with analog sticks, but who knows? I'll have to keep playing in order to find that out. And once I got over that 4 hour hump, things started becoming more rewarding, so I'm gonna shelve my dual analogs for a little bit to find out if it really is better than DA.

I agree you should check out my mag move gameplay on YouTube it really starts to click and when it does you will not want to play it any other way.
