Front Mission games of the past have been very tactical games, with a slow pace and a great deal of strategy involved. More action-oriented giant robot use has always been left to other series such as Mech Warrior or Armored Core. Apparently, Square Enix and Double Helix software have tired of these more plodding and technical aspects of their games and has attempted to reboot the franchise in a more streamlined and action-based direction.
