Fallout: New Vegas hands-on preview - BeefJack.com

BeefJack: "Of course, there’s very little to glean from a fifteen-minute demo mission. When the game remains so mechanistically similar, much of New Vegas’ quality is going to hinge on the standard of the storytelling in the long run. But the setting is immediately strong, and the engine still paints it remarkably well. Developers Obsidian are of renowned heritage, many of the team having famously worked on Fallouts 1 and 2. You have to imagine they were absolutely the right choice for the job."

But not different enough for me. If you're a hardcore Fallout fan then go for it, I guess. But I think I'll just wait for RAGE next year.

The graphics look very dated and the same as fallout 3...as if the devs didn't put any work into that particular area. I'm not saying that it takes away from the gameplay but it's something that immediately sticks out (for me).

Kakihara5012d ago

That's what worries me. Not the fact that the graphics haven't improved so much as what that says about the rest of the game. I don't mind the same graphics but the fact that they've even gone so far as sticking with the exact same face templates from the previous game just smacks of laziness and lack of care.

I'm worried that this game may be a dud but I really kinda need it to be great to keep me into gaming. Now that LBP2 is pushed back until next year, the hope that this game may be good is all that's keeping me thinking about gaming at any point in the rest of the year.

the graphics dont bother me. Yeah i want the id5 tech in the fallout/elder scrolls series, but this do able. Only worry is the "bugs & glitches" like Fallout 3 had. It was forgivable in 2008, but it'll kill this game. Its nearly 2011. Some times I'll pop in FO3, and the bugginess just sickens me. It was my fav RPG of 08 too (MGS4 was GotY)

Not having to do a complete graphical overhaul of the game means Obsidian put most of their work into the gameplay and story. That's fine with me.

Imo, I think Bethesda wouldn't allow an engine switch anyway. NV is described as a side-story, not a sequel. Obsidian have no problem bumping up the graphics (compare NWN to NWN2), but I imagine Bethesda had them use the same engine to keep it similar. They likely want to save the big upgrades for their in-house devs when they make FO4.

I cant wait, i loved Fallout 3 its 1 of the best games ive played this gen (next to Demons Souls)

Im glad that it looks and plays the same as Fallout 3 "if it aint broke dont fix it"

Hopefully theyve spent the time optimzin the game engine to iron out as many of the bugs/glitchs as they can

Its day-1

Fallout 3 was broken...still is on PS3. No patches, nothing. I have 0% faith in Bethesda as a development team. Hopefully these guys get it right...

NegativeCreepWA5011d ago (Edited 5011d ago )

I would like you to name a game the size a any Bethesda game that has less bugs, some game are just to big to fully test. Look at games like two worlds and the Gothic series known to have way more bugs.

I never played the PS3 version of Fallout but, I did hear it ran like crap compared to the PC and 360 versions.

I'm getting the PC version this time. I want to use mods this time around.

S-T-F-U5011d ago

I can't but they should still make the effort to at least try to fix the broken game that they have released. They then have the cheek to release the game of the year edition roping even more fools in and that is just as broken as the first version. It's not wright...

Games That Were Bad on Release, But Are Now Great

BLG writes, "Some of the most popular games have had a rough start, with some of them being downright unplayable.

Despite that, developers have managed to turn it around for them and make their game worth playing. Here are some games that had a rough start but were pretty great."

Good list..hoped to see Street Fighter 5 there..and it is.

Sea of Thieves... I'm not disagreeing that the game has improved in terms of content. But I feel that the most significant change between now and its release is actually the public perception. Nowadays, most people are aware that the game is a multiplayer PvP-focused experience first and foremost, and not "Black Flag made by Rare". Consequently, people dismissing the whole experience because the single-player aspect is lacking or the story is plain are much less common.

darthv7249d ago

Several years ago, i submitted an idea to Rare that would change up the mechanics of battling opponents in the game. whereby if you died in battle, you turned into a skeleton warrior and had to fight your way back to the land of the living. It was an interesting twist on respawning and would allow the player to experience both sides of a battle.

I keep hoping to see something like that get added to the game.

They consider FO 76 & ME Andromeda to be great now 🤭

anast49d ago

Every game in the last 2 decades...

INMATEofARKHAM49d ago

It's sad that this quick retort is more often than not true... The industry's acceptance of release and patch has gone too far.

gunnerforlife48d ago

Days gone! By the end of the game I couldn't drop it down! I went around so many hours killing zombies! It was addictive by the end.

S2Killinit48d ago

That game was just plain good game. It didnt improve, it was just good.

gunnerforlife48d ago

I don't know, I got it abit late, and struggled for a few days, and then all of a sudden it just got good!!

Fallout Anthology Edition Looks Pretty S.P.E.C.I.A.L.

The Fallout Anthology Edition is coming to PC very soon, and is packaged with some very S.P.E.C.I.A.L. bonuses.

-Foxtrot70d ago

It’s an awful downgrade to the last one they did

They included physical disc back then
